Ugh, THIS. THIS IS WHAT I WANT WHEN I SIGN UP FOR ENEMIES TO LOVERS BL. Their rivalry, rivalry-turned-relationship, their growth- all of it was super satisfying. I really felt the feels in this one. I love both of the characters, they were pretty well defined, and all of their conflicts were realistic and not stretched. This is the kind of thing I want from adult bl. I liked how Torikai's insecurities were dealt with, cause he really deserves way better. The art was CRAZYYY good in some panels but overall 8.5 out of 10. Lastly, don't know why MAL thinks this manga doesn't havea second volume, cause it totally does, and I'll read it later on.
I'm impressed, I started reading it because I thought it would just be a silly story focusing more on sex, just to pass the time and laugh a little, but it's one of the best lovers' rivals I've ever read. The author knows how to build a real rivalry, this is the relationship you imagine when you think of rivals and it still manages to be a healthy relationship. The context of firefighters is very interesting. And they are two big, strong men, both very good at what they do, without stereotypes and without that "hehe he's as cute as a girl" thing. There isn't alot of drama in terms of accepting feelings, which I love, but in other things I found it interesting to follow. Mainly because everything revolves around their rivalry and how it makes them better, instead of ending everything. I loved it, it's very cute too, there aren't many declarations of love, but I identified with Yajima in this. I could read 10 more chapters just about them being lovers, because I loved their interactions and dynamics. As it's short, it's not something that will mark my life, that I'll never forget, because it doesn't give much time to get so attached to the story and characters, but it leaves that feeling that it would be possible with more.
A cocky and confident Yajima harbors dislike for Torikai, a cool and talented fellow trainee in the Rescue Team. The two constantly quarrel, but one day they cross the line while squabbling and end up sleeping together. Yajima regrets it, but at the same time he cannot get Torikai's pleading expression out of his head. However, because they have been rivals until now, he just can't bring himself to be honest with Torikai. (Source: Frontier Works, translated)
English version: The drawing style is too beautiful and the characters are really beautiful (I even saw people comparing torikai to young leonardo dicaprio, he is so handsome). The story is cool, it's just not memorable. So so. Lucky for the author that they knew how to write a cute couple with chemistry. Since those are the only qualities of the romance.
this is quite the perfect rivals to lovers story IMO. the transition from rivals to "something weird" to frival to lovers is really really smooth and, most of all, makes sense to their characters. the "rival" aspect of this pair really does NOT serve as mere gimmick. it's part of one of the character's conflicted past, one of the reasons of them getting to know each other, one of the reasons for one of them to fall for the other, one of the reasons of their character growth, and one of the reason of their recent conflict. not to mention, the characters feel quite complex. theirfears, goals, reactions toward stuff, etc makes sense and i find no single loopholes. their personalities also don't feel stereotypical and i really like their character designs except for the 1 thing i dislike which i'll mention in the last paragraph. the art is SO good. it's not like... groundbreaking or unique considering it doesn't have to have crazy scenes (wide shot of a city or unique angle view or crazy battle scenes), but what needs to be drawn are drawn well. plus, the expressions of the characters are good IMO. i can feel their passion and tension during the sex scenes and insecurities and pain during a conflict. the only downsides are 1) most of the characters who are of the same age have similar facial feature and structure, so it's hard to distinguish them when they're wearing their firefighter outfits that hides their hair 2) that i feel like yajima has been doing a lot of the heavywork when it comes to the relationship and communication, so it'd be nice to see torikai getting his character development on that front quick so my score is 8 for the story, 8 for the characters, 6 for the art, 8 for the overall feeling, which average to 7.5, rounded to 8
