I really enjoyed it. But if you don't have time to read 143 chapters, then don't start. Whatever anyone may say, this Manhwa is unique in it's very own way. If you however only read manhwas for the art style, then don't start this one. I personally love the art style, but many will disagree with me. The Mc is Op made well, cause he's not the only one who's Op. He alone would have never been able to do anything, and he's well aware of that. They made him a multiverse monster, only to introduce even stronger entities in the last few chapters. Andwarning, if you wanna know the ending of this stor, you will have to read the light novel.
Sunghoon Lee is nothing but a victim of a changing world, a powerless man in a land infested with beasts and magic. Monsters from another world invaded Earth, and they brought with them a sickness that pushes Sunghoon's mother into an endless sleep. To pay off her medical bills, he braved a dangerous job as bait used by powerful superhumans called Awakeners to hunt monsters. But when he found himself at death's door, the image of his past life flashes through his mind. There, he found his truth: he is the reincarnation of the Sorcerer King! (Source: Tapas Media)
I Am the Sorcerer King is an exciting and refreshing manhwa that blends modern survival with high fantasy elements. The story follows Lee SungHoon, a man living in a world ravaged by monster invasions. After being fatally wounded, he recovers memories of his past life as a powerful sorcerer king. From that moment, his journey turns from that of a victim to one of the most fearsome forces against humanity’s enemies. What makes this series stand out is its clever mix of rebirth, magic progression, and survival themes. Instead of being an overpowered hero from the start, SungHoon strategically rebuilds his strength while carefully concealing thetruth about his immense power. The pacing is well-balanced, with thrilling action sequences, smart tactical battles, and intriguing world-building that expands as the story progresses. The art style is bold and clean, capturing the intensity of monster hunts and large-scale magic clashes perfectly. The character development is also engaging—SungHoon isn’t just another generic power fantasy protagonist; his cunning, intelligence, and maturity as someone who has lived once before make him unique compared to many other manhwa leads. Overall, I Am the Sorcerer King is a gripping manhwa for fans of reincarnation, magic systems, and strategic progression stories. It’s a must-read for those who enjoy protagonists who rise from weakness to overwhelming strength with brains as much as brawn.
The initial premise of Sorcerer King is practically identical to that of solo levelling. From the gates to the system to the main character being weak and paying for his bed-bound mother's medical expenses. After the first chapter however, the two series diverge entirely and it becomes a super unique and interesting take on magic within the context of a modern society. There are loads of really cool and unique ideas for weapons, attacks, and ways to utilise magic that I really haven't seen anywhere else. There's also a good explanation for why the system and the gates exist in the first place that Ifound to be pretty interesting. The only real critique I have is that the ending feels pretty rushed. New side-characters are introduced just a few chapters before the end and it overall doesn't feel as fleshed out as it probably could have been. The ending doesn't diminish from the rest of the series though and I'd highly recommend giving it a read given how strong the concept and execution of the rest of the series is.
I am the Sorcerer King strong point is how it entertains you with a system that blends fantasy magic and modern technology. It also does a good job of going into detail about how the economy would work in such a world, and how it would affect political relationships between countries and society as a whole. Although I sometimes felt a bit disconnected from the protagonist and most of the side characters aren’t anything special, they fulfill the role the author intends for them. It’s a shame that the ending is completely rushed. Starting around chapter 100, you can tell the pacing speeds up more than usual, and they ultimately wrap up the entire manwha in just five chapters, simply telling what happens and skipping all the dialogue and fights. An insulting ending for what could have been a memorable action-fantasy manwha.
generic ass modern progression fantasy turns into power trip fantasy into sci fi, it absolutely rushed everything past chapter 100 and even before that, everything just happened so fast anyway, there's not much of entertainment value in this series, actually, there's not much value at all, you will finish reading it and find yourself thinking, were any of these characters memorable? not really. was the plot any good? not really. was there any character development? some. did it make me think or question my beliefs at any point? no. did it make me laugh? no. was i attached to any character at any point? no. now, thisis an extremely harsh thing to say about any piece of art, but, was there any value in me reading this? no, none at all. if i had any kind of value to my time on this god blessed earth i would be mad at myself for wasting my time reading this. it feels more like an outline, a sketch of a story, still missing lines, colors and shading, you would need to rewrite this from the first word and actually add meaning and values to the characters and their interactions for this to be any good at all the shadows in solo leveling had more development and were more memorable than all of the characters in this story, and sl is already a "turn your brain off, it's power trippin time" kind of story. i've spent the last 2 hours trying to think of a reason to have read this story, anything, a giggle, an interesting plot development, a good character, anything at all, but there's nothing, there is no reason at all to read this story, which is absolutely appalling in a way i haven't seen in a while
