This was an INCREDIBLE manga. I started reading this to procrastinate homework about...oh, less than twenty four hours ago. And when I first started, I was not overly impressed. The art was a bit rough, kind of confusing, and in some ways just poorly/sloppily executed. But for whatever reason, I committed myself. And then it just got better and better! Characters that seemed so hollow at first, so poorly developed, began to gain in momentum. Her comical reactions to constructive criticism went from laughably unrealistic to just flat out admirable. It was absurdly inspiring to me! My FAVORITE aspect of the manga was the main loveinterest. I have never seen such a brilliant backstory for such a cold personality; this mangaka did not rush it. It comprised several chapters, and it was heart wrenching and totally relatable. And he was COMPLETELY humanized, COMPLETELY! It was insane. It's a manga about discovering yourself and hard work. And it's about making service to others; everyone became happier as they stopped fearing failure and reached out towards their dreams and others. The characters were all very interesting. Even though they were clumsily conveyed, as the mangaka improved, you truly like all of them. Such interesting personalities! Some of them never truly see the light of day (what's-his-face-womanizer from the original group of four "dropouts"), but others, like Mizuki, transform into the most amazing yet unconventional characters. I mean, for a third member in a love triangle, Mizuki was just different and unashamed of it. He's a black haired guy with glasses who acts NOTHING like black-haired-glasses-guys (think Ouran High). He was soft and gentle and TOTALLY and delightfully unrelatable in the beginning, like a cherubic small child yet tall and good looking and incredibly talented. I loved the hard work that the main character puts in. It's a fantastic representation of reaching a crazy goal like her's. I even loved the ending! Somehow I was not let down and left feeling that it ended to abruptly. There wasn't much of anything left unaddressed. Honestly, though, I could have kept reading it forever. Normally it's such a drag for me to read. But since I didn't move once for five hours when I found it, it's safe to say I was captivated. Story: The plot never dragged for me. It was all delightful, and the chapters were never very long. I constantly wanted to move t the next chapter. Art: It wasn't OVERLY pervy (although it favored short skirts). But I never saw awkwardly busty women to make our a-cup main character feel awful, so I approve! And it was certainly rough in the beginning, but I give it a nine for the beauty and grace it achieves by the end. You simply have to stick with it. Character: You know, I'm not totally sure how the main character changes (mostly she just falls in love and improves in her skills and knowledge). But Senri's transformation was INCREDIBLE and very realistic. For Senri and Mizuki, I WOULD give a ten. But there are randomly underdeveloped characters, like her sister and other "friends". There are other minds that I wish I'd been able to have a peek into, but it was such flawless story telling that I am NOT complaining. Enjoyment: It's obvious I adored this manga. Some parts are just laugh out loud (although I've certainly read funnier; I laughed only once every few chapters, really) and some are squeal-worthy. Some parts are just adorable yet sad; this main character doesn't hold with self pity. But she gets in at least one good cry that you REALLY feel like she deserves and really adds more dimension to her relationship to Senri...but I digress. It was fantastic. Overall: A ten. Oh, man. I am SO GLAD I got over my judgemental side and stuck with it to see it transform into a story that I will treasure forever. It's not perfect, but the themes, characters, plot, and romance are all wonderful. It's probably now one of my all time favorite mangas.
As a child, Hime Kino was starstruck by "Lovely Blazers" voice actress Sakura Aoyama. From that day on, Hime has dreamed of following in Sakura's footsteps. With this in mind, Hime enrolls in Hiiragi Academy, a voice acting school famous for producing the best of the best. In fact, Hime sits right next to the already successful son of Sakura, Senri Kudou. Aiming to match her peers' level of skill, Hime attempts to put her best foot forward. She introduces herself with her cutest voice, but what comes out is anything butβshe sounds like an old man, earning her the nickname "Gorilla Princess." Suddenly, she finds herself grouped with other potential dropouts. But Hime is not deterred by such a setback, and she quickly becomes friends with the others at the bottom of the class. With their help and her own unrivaled optimism, Hime will do whatever it takes to achieve her dream! [Written by MAL Rewrite]
I thoroughly enjoyed this manga. Although at times I was afraid it would turn into a reverse harem-esc manga, it did not disappoint me in the end. I actually found this through Special A (since it is the same author), and was happily surprised to see such a cute change in the author's style. Other than the style, the story was quite entertaining and made me smile a lot. The characters are very colorful too, each are very easy to distinguish. My only complaint was the slow pace of the romance.
I'm going to try my best not to post spoilers for this review. Seiyuu Ka! as mentioned in the synopsis is about our heroine Kino Hime who wishes to become a famous seiyuu due to the influence of her idol Aoyama Sakura. Like any other bishoujo mangas, this one had the gender-bender category, so it was a tiny bit different from the usual. Moving along: 1. Story - the plot wasn't very catchy enough for me. For me it felt like the same old manga where girls who has no talent/skills wants to enter the showbiz world and stumbles upon really hot guys, etc... But alongthe middle parts of this story, it had a good progress. I could actually read the character development of the heroine (kinda like skip beat's Kyoko) but all of the sudden... rush ending and loop holes. 2. Art - Lovely but the heroine's hairstyle of twin braids wasn't what I always enjoyed about. She looked really lovely when her hair was down or on a ponytail but I dunno... something about her hair in a braids didn't appeal to me. I personally prefer it up. As for the other characters (the reverse harem, mind you) as expected of them to be drawn hot and oozing with male testosterone. 3. Character - was focused mainly on the heroine. True, it was supposed to be her story, but it could have gone longer with her relationship with the other characters. Her relationship with her friends, her mother, her idol, etc... it had so much potential but it was all too sudden. Not just the heroine but the leading guy too (I forget his name. Senri?). 4. Enjoyment - I enjoyed the first few chapters but all in all, I have to say I'll give it a 6. 5. Overall - if you have spare time, you can check this manga out. I basically had time to spare and it seems this manga was already completed so I decided to give it a shot. It's an okay manga (for me).
My friend recommended me this manga, and when i started reading the first 10 chapters or so i got hooked right into it! I just love manga that have a realistic and inspiring storyline like Seiyuu-ka!. Since such good storyline is hard to find and to read. The characters are enjoyable and full of emotions making each one unique! The artwork is creative and express the characters well. Especially when it illustrate Hime's smile. This manga wouldn't let me stop reading. Every time i finnish one chapter it makes me want to read more even though i read a lot already. I recommend this manga topeople who love to be inspired and have a dream they want to pursue like the main characters; because Hime optimistic and cheerful personality will bring a smile to your face and keep you dreaming!
Seiyuu ka! was a really fun read. It's a shoujo manga whose main focus isn't romance, so if you like your romance and dokidoki moments perhaps this isn't the series for you. The show revolves around main characters Hime and Senri (mostly Hime), and Hime's path to becoming a seiyuu despite her bad voice acting. I grew to like these two characters very much, and they never acted in a way that annoyed me, so I had a lot of fun watching them. The romance between the two of them isn't focused much on at all, so if you want a satisfying dokidoki romance you mightnot get it. However, the relationship between the two main characters is really the highlight of the series for me. Their friendship which hints at something more is really cute to watch. Hime's path to fulfilling her dream and how she and Senri interact with each other - friends but not really friends - is enjoyable to watch. You get Hime every chapter, but Senri only in small doses that increase as the series progresses. That doesn't mean the earlier chapters are boring though, if you enjoy watching Hime and her struggles for her dream. In fact, getting more and more Senri as the series progresses went well for me, as their relationship grew better over time in a way that didn't seem forced. I think one thing the series could have done better was the side characters. The side characters aren't bad, but could be utilized better. They get focus now and then, and there's some sort of backstory for half of the side characters, but after that it never gets mentioned again. It feels pointless to add depth to the characters but ignore the characters later on. I think some of this could be omitted since it wouldn't even affect the story in the least. The good thing is that the backstories don't get that much focus as well, so it's over quickly and feels like just a short story to me, and aren't unbearable to read. Lastly, the "love rival". I hesitate to call him that as it never really felt that way to me. He never competed with the other guy for her love. It just felt like he was a good senpai that happened to love the main character (and everyone reading knows this love will not bear fruit). I think there was more time spent on his love for the MC compared to the real male protagonist's love for the MC. He was however not a useless character, as he played a huge part in helping the MC become what she was. For that I think he was a decent character, even if his past wasn't really important to the story in the least. So, should you read Seiyuu ka!? I think that depends on whether you're hoping for moments like the main guy saving the main female/pushing her against the wall and confessing, or you simply want to read about characters you can cheer for as they go about trying to achieve their dreams, making impactful relationships along the way. My advice is to just give it a few chapters and decide if Hime is worth your time. The setting of this story is pretty fun since it's not the usual high school life. Word of warning: the ending might feel rushed/unsatisfactory. Overall I rate it 7/10 because it could have been better (mainly the side characters and rushed ending), but enjoyment wise I feel it's at least a 8 since it fun and feels like there's an actual plot rather than 100 chapters of getting the guy to like the girl.
