[Light Spoilers ahead] One week family is an adorable, light read. You won't find any non-con, typical seme uke roles, struggles with sexuality or any of the typical BL tropes that I'm sure many of us have come to hate. Instead, you'll get pure sugar and feels. I'll start by saying I HIGHLY recommend it for anyone that's a fan of BL, if you have an hour to kill, sit back and savour the wholesomeness that is One Week Family. Story: The premise is basic enough, a tv actor that struggles to get along with kids is made to live with his 5 year old costarand the costars manager for a week. Typical family shenanigans and romance ensues. Art: Really crisp, beautiful lines, the art style is really pleasing. The kid character is adorable and the two mains, Kei and Ren, are nice to look at. Characters: Being only 6 chapters, there isn't much depth of character, but we still get a good feel of our main cast, enough to resonate with their stories. Enjoyment: It's a 10 for me, I was smiling ear to ear the entire read. If you're looking for a sweet, short read, look no further! You won't regret the time spent on this little manga. Really hoping it gets adapted at some point, all I could have wanted was for it to be longer!! So good.
On the outside, Ren Fujimaru seems like the perfect actor—except for one flaw: he cannot handle working with children due to a past incident. For this reason, his manager proposes that he should live with his young costar Yuu Kusaka, his boss' son, for a week. Ren initially treats the idea as a joke, but he is shocked to discover that his manager is being serious: Yuu must stay with him in his apartment to improve their relationship. Having never lived with kids, Ren finds it difficult to strike up a conversation with Yuu. Aid comes in the form of Yuu's manager Kei Haruo—a former child actor whom Ren admired as a kid. With his long-time idol so close, Ren cannot help but ask Kei about his sudden disappearance from the spotlight, but Kei refuses to give him any explanation. Can the lives of these three people, each carrying their own burden, change in the spurt of just one week? [Written by MAL Rewrite]
The whole manga is so wholesome and warm and the characters are all so grown up mentally and really respectful of each other. Seriously, I was amazed by that, I've never (or very rarely) encountered such characters in manga (there is always someone very stubborn, childish, rude etc). They all portray positive characteristics. The only complaint I'd have is that I wish the romance part was a bit longer, I wish the author delved more into their relationship, or just made it longer with the focal point on their relationship. It would be nice to see more of this story, especially since it warms yourheart so well!
This is a very wholesome and cute little online manga, a one-shot apparently the author's only published work. A guy (Ren) who has gone into acting is asked to spend time with a child actor to overcome an apparent difficulty with kids to prepare for an upcoming role. This introduces Ren to Yuu, who is beyond adorable, and his 'manager' Kei. The basic setup of the story is okay, and it's very cute in parts, but there are things I was hoping could have been better. I find myself questioning why there are so many stories from Japan about Show Business (like idols etc). Thesubplot about showbiz wasn't really necessary, I really wanted to see the three of them do as the title says and BE A FAMILY and apart from one or two activities, most of the pages revolved around the showbiz stuff. This leads to the relationship between the two leads feeling very stiff and formal; with most of the talk being so formal and wooden it just feels like you're in an office the whole time. You don't really get to know much about Yuu, who says very little but is supposed to be the key to the story. None of the characters get much proper development since this is only one volume. Yuu is convincing as a 5 year old for sure- but he's laden with this showbiz stuff and the story actively prevents him from being a child. It's a plot point- but nevertheless detracted from what the title promises. Apart from that, the art is nothing really to stand out, it's a computer made manga with stock faces and background pictures inserted in- such as the cityscapes here and there- yea that's not drawn it's copied in and filtered. It looks nice, but wouldn't win any awards. This is a nice story you can go through in a couple of days and it's wholesome and pleasant and will make you smile. I would welcome a followup!
