Hello how are you? I read this work attracted by the art of the cover where warm pastel colors are used against the cold and gray background. And based on that is more or less what the work is about. It's an intimate story that just needs someone to talk and someone to listen in the depths of an abandoned art store for you to feel comforted. It's a one-shot and in just a couple of pages the author managed to make me feel hopeful that even if the situation doesn't work out, the protagonists will be fine with that little link between them. It's anice story, enjoy it.
Short one-shot I found because it was drawn by an artist I really enjoy, that tells a story of the remnants and memories after a tragic natural disaster destroyed the landscape, and how people will find ways to talk even when everything around is destroyed.. Great artwork showing how abandoned everything is, but still gives a glow of life to the stationary shop and a really wholesome ending, highly recommended if you have a few minutes to spare and want a neat story, and I recommend other works by the same artist as well. (yes, most of this stuff seems like i'm saying nothing, andits because I just need to reach MAL's word count just to say the one shot is well written and illustrated)
Kasumi Arai was only six years old when the world plunged into chaos: earthquakes emerged, diseases spread like wildfire, and society began to crumble in the clutches of an eternal winter. Her only solace in the present is an old, abandoned stationery store that withstood the test of time amidst the disorder of the world. While there, she often uses a vast array of colorful pens to draw her favorite anime character, Miracle Momo, just to pass time. After reminiscing with his friend about the days before the end of the world, a young man decides to make a trip back to his family's stationery store and discovers Kasumi's drawing within. Feeling nostalgic, the man sketches the same anime character, triggering a correspondence between the two unlikely individuals. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
"This is just a playground for me." Our story starts by introducing us to Kasumi, a young girl who has only known a world rampaged by earthquakes and other natural disasters. Despite there being little to hope for, she finds solace within a building that used to be known as a stationary store, filled with pens and crafts of all kinds. We soon find out that this store, which has survived all of the natural disasters that have occurred so far, ends up being the place that Kasumi goes as much as possible. She makes up one half of the pen-pals in this story. The second character, without spoiling anything about the middle of this one-shot, is somehow interconnected with this stationary store. The two begin communicating and develop an unexpected pen-pal relationship in a world where communication is otherwise totally unavailable. This concept feels fresh and interesting because we witness the world surrounding our characters as hopeless and empty, yet they find themselves filled with excitement and happiness to have something worth living for. Things suddenly don't feel completely hopeless. The story delivers from start to finish. Aside from the plot, this one-shot has some of the best art design and expression in it's category. You feel like you're part of the world. The characters are accurately expressed in each panel, and they do a great job at including little details such as small, significant motions as well as Kasumi singing parts of a song but using letters or syllables to fill in the parts she doesn't remember; something I recall doing myself as a child. Thematically, this story is dark, melancholic, and sad... But also extremely positive and uplifting. It's unique because you are presented with an environment that is very bleak, however at the same time it is utilized in a way alongside the characters to create a wholesome and memorable experience. Despite the situation, the world and it's people are calm. Most of us have likely never known what it feels like to live in complete destruction and isolation, and likely never will. We often take our comfort and safety for granted until it's too late, and this story allows the characters to look beyond the hopelessness on the horizon of their living quarters and naturally find a place that they feel safest. Pen Pal At the End of the World explores living within a harsh reality in a way that I haven't seen before. This will likely be one of your favorite one-shots and is well worth the adventure. "Regardless of the shape... so long as there's a person who talks and a person who listens, that's enough to make one fine story."
°English Version° Last night I read this One-shot called "Sekai no Owari no Pen Friend". It is one of those short stories that have a unique charm, a pure magic that makes you smile in the midst of disaster. Three characters, two scenarios. The result? A beautiful ending. A lost gem out there. "In a post-apocalyptic stationery store, a girl and a former animator exchange letters. A dystopian correspondence story." That's the synopsis of it and you don't need anything else. An encounter between a man and a girl who yearn with magic for what they love so much or knew how to love. To finish, I want to keepsomething precious that one of its protagonists said: "No matter what, as long as there's one person talking and one person listening... that's enough to make a good story." Never so real. Nunca tan real.
Woah, that was truly wholesome. The art by Kento Matsuura (I met him thanks to "Honomieru Shounen") is beautiful. The drawings are simple but effective when it comes to conveying emotions and feelings, and at the same time, bringing this kind of "after the disaster" atmosphere. It's a 54-page one-shot that feels fluid (and short) to read, with a "cute" development and a hopeful conclusion. With really few characters you can feel the message and the emotions they have inside them. The story was written by Sekka Iwata, the author of "Magilumiere", it was my first time reading a work of him. It will only take youa few minutes to read it, so I highly recommend you do so. It's enjoyable.
