If I had to use a term that describes why this is a must read, I would say it's "immersive". If you like stories of struggle and difficulties, real characters that are humans and not just super intelligent or prepared for everything, relatable characters as well as supernatural elements that increase the beauty of the story, this is the right place for you. This Light Novel is the second work of Hachimoku sensei. The plot is quite simple, but the story wrap up in a beautiful way. Story (9): The story itself is nothing new. Time travel factor, a romantic hint and drama, but the environment as wellas the wonderful way in which the author describes the scenary and how our MC feels and think is done very well. The time travel factor blends perfectly with the tale and the setting. The story gets more interesting as the days of the rollback are coming to an end and all the knots starts connecting each other. Art (7): The art is fine, nothing exceptional. I don't particularly like Kukka's art but its neat and clean at least. I wish there would be more drawings. Characters (10): The good part arrives here. The characters are incredibly relatable. When the story was coming near the end, I was completely immersed in it. The way the author describes the feelings and the struggles of the characters, as well as how they overcome the hard times they are having, is simply wonderful. I found myself completely engaged especially from the third interlude. Whenever I was reading about a particular character having a hard time in other mangas/animes I was never much invested since I never had those experiences, so I could not understand or grasp their struggles, but here the problems and sufferings, as well as the joy of overcoming them is descrived so beautifully that I found myself as if I was living what the character was narrating. I would get mad if something bad happened or get distressed over a problem or extremely happy after the solution. This is the way to write proper characters, sasuga Hachimoku sensei! Overall (10): When the characters are described so well I tend to increase my score, since the relationships between the characters are the pillar of every story. I recommend this LN to everyone, have a fun ride!
Two years ago, high schooler Kanae left his small island community of Sodeshima to pursue his academic dreams in Tokyo. When that life falls short of his expectations, he runs away from home to return to Sodeshima and his childhood friend, Akari. But before they can rekindle their old feelings for each other, the clock strikes six and Kanae finds himself inexplicably thrust forward four days into the future. Worse, he learns that Akito, Akari's older brother—and Kanae's childhood hero—is dead. Except death might not be the end for Akito. As Kanae tries to fill in the four-day gap of his memories, Akari explains: he's about to relive those four days in reverse order in a phenomenon known as "Rollback." Kanae himself explained it to her...in a past he hasn't yet experienced. Armed with this new knowledge, Kanae is determined to leverage Rollback however he can to save Akito's life—and Akari's heart. I picked up this book at the store on a whim solely because of the cover, as the colors of the cherry blossoms and the realistic feel of the scenery really stood out to me—and boy was it worth it. Plot (8/10): While the plot isn't anything too crazy, I do believe that it is unique in its own way. I have read plenty of stories regarding time travel, but none included a phenomenon like the "rollback," so the story felt fresh. The ending of the story I thought was well done, the book does its fair amount of foreshadowing and so I kind of gotan idea of how it was going to end, but there was much more to it than what I thought, which didn't disappoint. Writing (10/10): The thing that stood out the most from this book was the writing. Everything from the descriptions of the sceneries and the emotions to the grammar used in the story felt like it was well done, which is amazing considering that this is also a translation. The writing also felt very poetic at times, and the author finds ways to set the mood just right. The way in which the author manages to connect the "rollback" phenomenon with the story also comes off as very clever, making it a book worth reading twice so that one can see what the author did. Characters (10/10): The characters felt very real throughout the text, making choices that were relatable. There weren't any annoying quirks or overwhelming beliefs that they always acted on—no, they felt human, like proper literary fiction instead of genre fiction (not that there's anything wrong with the latter). Their emotions were also well described, and plenty of imagery was given to them which may not have been something groundbreaking but it was well done.
It‘s a very clever piece. I‘d see it on eye level with Tunnel to Summer. You can definitely see the author‘s style and his fascination with time travel, especially a concept called boot-strap paradox but I’d say the it‘s slightly more complex than TtS. And the author does another amazing job at showing how fragile human relationships can be, how single events can flip any relationship upside down. In terms of plot, it feels more consistent compared to TtS, something is just always going on, however, the climax comes near the very end, so if you decide to read, don‘t give up halfway if thestory seems average at first, because it‘s necessary to build up to the finale. However, what is different from TtS is that this book feels more like a detective story and if I‘d compare it to a movie it‘d be Christopher Nolan‘s masterpiece Memento. They have similar elements, because the story flows chronologically from backwards, depicting future events first, but the author does so really well, making it feel like a jigsaw puzzle that makes more sense the more you read.
*One Light Novel that Everyone should Read* i read this because someone at Youtube suggest me this because of Tunnel Summer Movie (and i dindt like that movie). but after i'd see the cover and there is a short-hair girl with high school uniform... and in my mind was i will give this a chance and wow this is one of the best Light Novel i had: -Story: 10/10(made me feel tense and comfy every single line) -Word choosing and dialog: 10/10 (its easy to understand and made my fantasy flying in the sky) -Ilustration: 9/10 (the emotion at the ilustr was Very Good) -Ending: 8/10 (So for ending.. some people will hate it but it still good ending) -Moral Story: 9.5/10 (Its presented so well at the Novel) *So Should You Read This? The Answer is: ABSOLUTELY
From beginning to the end, Mei Hachimoku has beautifully demonstrated his writing capabilities with simple yet complicated time travel mechanics, amazing character building, and intricate character interactions that really question the quality and realistic architecture of these characters, especially Kanae and Akari. I love how this light novel presents its characters, from the beginning things don't really make sense from Akari's strange behaviour. We as the viewer don't know the true reasoning behind her behaviour but as the plot progresses, we see insights of Akari's life, her thoughts, feelings and goals that further pushes the plot forward, creating personal connection between the reader and thecharacters. I love that throughout the novel, we learn small pieces of information that contribute to the overall storyline and as a reader, it feels so rewarding to obtain these small pieces of information. In my opinion, if you haven't already read this light novel, I highly recommend it, in no doubt you will end up loving it.
