[More info about my review style can be found on my profile] ▶Summary and recommendation: ----------------------------------------------------------------- A very charming 'heterosexual' crossdressing themed romcom that appeared (to me and some others) as a boy's love / yaoi romcom at first glance. This is an adult romcom written for adults who has a more mature view on romance than teenagers. The manga is quite refreshing in that it does not have a lot of awkward misunderstandings, which is a common plot device in romcoms. There is light nudity and suggestive scenes, but no genitalia or intercourse is shown. It is however very implied. Even in the very first chapters. ▶Storyand Romance: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A crossdressing romcom that stars out very strong and fast. It is common for romcoms to drag the story out as much as possible, which this manga also falls victim for, but not until much much later in the story. Only mellowing out after several story arcs. Rather than drama, the story is mostly covering the lighthearted teasing between couples and the characters discovering themselves, rather than using misunderstandings as plot devices. It is unclear if it has trans themes as of writing. If the main character is trans, it does not state so outright. ▶Characters: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Most of the characters are adults and feel like they were written by an adult with experience in the field of romance, which isn't the case with all romcoms. ▶Artwork: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The artstyle is black and white only as is common with Japanese comics. Most of the scenes lack background art, but features art when it matters to the story. The most important part however are the characters, and they are well drawn and their expressions and emotions come across well.
While cross-dressing, I was hit on by a handsome guy, except he wasn't actually a handsome guy!
In TADD's "While Cross-Dressing, I Was Hit on by a Handsome Guy!" (the original title), we never learn "why" Iori wants to crossdress, or why Hazuki is a tomboy attracted to femme guys. Deep psychology? early trauma? gender politics? all eighty-sixed before chapter one. These people just are, and this is refreshing, because we get to jump right into the common pitfall of dating, worrying about: how assertive we should be; if our words or tone or actions set a bad mood last night; how to appear eager for the next date without pressuring the other person; managing expectations; and learning from your new significantother. The serious fears and worries are given due weight, but it never quite capsizes the fun of dating, and the richest mine of fun is our incompetence at dating itself. The story's shape does not devolve into formula, and the characters progress along very small arcs; no one is "transformed" by the end, but everyone is a little bit different, even if only by seeing their friends in a bit of a new light. Enjoy.
17+ Manga. Just a legitimately queer manga with queers being queers and really loving each other both in and out of drag. The nine rating comes from this sort of soft romcom queer genre, it has been printed physically but started out as a short web comic. Short, fast but endearing read. I appreciate the female MC's concern for the male MC, usually stories like this have the male either wanting to be heavily debased or a really cruel female but this was not the case and it might be because it was written by a woman, who knows. I'd probably describe the whole thing as gentle andsoft. Super cute! No dumbass sadism or anything like that, just gay as hell, would fag again.
