I can see where the negative reviews are coming from but if you especially like the slice of life genre, this is one you shouldn't miss. This manga will overwhelm you emotionally. It is tragic, lovely, sweet, painful, lonely and doubtlessly fulfilling. This is a true gem, one of those rare manga that will make a deep impression and leave you satisfied with the beautifully executed ending. Art: started off as somewhat awkward but by the second half it improved tremendously Story: It's really nothing much but what makes this manga what it is is the way in which it was done. It has an air reminiscent of thepeaceful loneliness in Natsume Yuujinchou but of course with more drama. The story flows smoothly from each scene and you can understand the characters' motives, confusion and frustration. Don't let the seeming angst/heartbreak detract you away from reading this from the early chapters. It will be worth continueing. (hint: there is no "tragedy" listed under it's genre on bakamangaupdates) Characters: As far as my view goes, their developments are very well done. From our protagonist who slowly grew in character into someone with his own resolve to Shuuya with dealing with his way of caring and to Rin's acceptance. While Kana might have had terrible things done to him, it is perfectly understandable why he fell in love and why he could still continue to love. It can be somewhat painful to read(though I really enjoyed that..) but this story is definitely about forgiveness from more than one party involved. For the other two, saying too much would be a spoiler but I have to say that they have beautifully matured. From the deep yearning which was misdirected into love in Kana and the pained manipulative love of Rin to the overly protective familial love of Shuuya, the combination gives a praiseworthy sense of melancholy. Subtly, the message that love can be cruel, love can hurt, love can be used to hurt and that love can bring happiness and motivation is slowly played out. Overall, this is a must read. I haven't read any bl manga that could move me this much for a long while and going by the amount of bl I've read, it is an impressive feat and I think one who enjoy reading stories about different kinds of love will appreciate this series.
Mizuhara Kana is staying together with his cousin, Shuuya. Kana has a weak heart and Shuuya has been taking care of him. Somehow, Kana felt like a bird locked in a cage and hoped to have some breathing space. A coincidently meeting with the transfer student, Aoi Rin, changed Kanaβs life. He fell head over heels into this first love. The mysterious Aoi taught him about the freedom outside the cage, but the risk that came along with this freedom could cost Kanaβs life. The love story of a bird flying out of the cage during the summer, will Shuuya rescue Kana in time? (Source: Attractive Fascinante)
I had high hopes for this manga, to be blunt. I didn't expect it to be totally great and awesome, but this really wasn't even entertaining. To start, we have the cliched sick child who has been sheltered his whole life. I didn't mind that part though. What I did mind (and really just didn't like) was the art style. I remember looking through pages and pages just wondering when I would see one whole, complete face, and it took quite a while. When I look at the pictures on the pages, I just feel like the mangaka was rushed and didn't finish the images. The storycontinues, and it starts out kind of promising, actually. Our mc, Kana, meets a boy who wants to show him what freedom is like. As you progress through the volume though, the story just starts to fall short. At one point I just got really frustrated because the mc is staying in love with this guy even though the guy treats him like crap! Like, wth? I'm sorry but I just couldn't get any enjoyment out of this manga. The characters are cliched and the mc is just dumb, the art isn't good, I didn't really get what the plot was supposed to be, and frankly, I was confused through most of this manga.
WARNING: SPOILERS!! OK... I made and effort and came on here to add this to my list of already read manga (usually I don't do this, I read ALOT of mangas and only the ones I really like, would I make an effort to add it.) but when I saw the first 2 reviews viewable on the main page, I felt a little sad. So I decided, I should definitely find the time to sit down and write a review for this manga. I personally feel that this manga deserves a 9 or 8.. still can't make up my mind about that yet but let meexplain each section and why, I find this yaoi manga a little different from the other yaoi "rape" mangas. Story: 8/10 I felt the story is really good because there's a bit of twist and emotions involved when I go through the manga. I went through a bit of an emotional roller-coaster with this manga and for a yaoi manga to do that? Well, it is not very often. There are some out there that's really good and not just all about s*x that most people keep going on about. (Yaoi = Porn well, not always! and this is one of them!) The sex scenes are there as a story, as something to depict emotions. Even though I really didn't like the bit that Aoi ganged up with a bunch of dogey ass guys to rape and film Kana, I still find in me, a hope that Aoi is not that evil. And then there's a point in the manga where I got all teary eyed and sad and when the manga eventually ended, I felt kinda sad. I wanted to know more about the couple. I didn't want the story to just end there! Art: 8/10 I actually really like the art!! hahaha.. I admit in the beginning, I wanted to see the guy's face more and a few scenes where I didn't understand what's going on till I go over it again. But the drawing grows on me. I really like the flowy or sketchy feel of it. It's like something very fleeting. Kinda matches the story really well. So thumbs up from me to the mangaka still! :) I've seen worst drawing skills than this!!! Kinds that make me wonder if they can produce a manga with that kind of drawing skills, what's stopping me? (probably my laziness.. hahaha) Character: 9/10 I love the characters! All 3 main characters, I love them all. There is a point where I wasn't happy with Aoi but I'm glad I was in denial till the end. :D FIrstly, Kana, the sweet, innocent, cute uke boy. (just wanna cuddle him!) Well, to those who think Kana is stupid or weak or blind to be able to still love Aoi despite what happened, to me, Kana isn't a weak guy who just loves Aoi blindly like most other yaoi manga characters are, I have read MANY! where in the midst of being raped or constantly being tormented, the uke falls in love. (I agree that that's what most people would call Hentai Logice.. (-_-)) The difference is Kana fell in love with Aoi because of the things they did together, he was truly happy during his time of experiencing freedom and love with Aoi, so naturally, when you love someone very much and have really great memories of the person, you would naturally tend to want to not give up and find out the true feelings of that person. It doesn't mean that Kana is stupid. That's just how life is sometimes. You fall so deeply in love, you can't rationalise and lucky for Kana, Aoi did turn out to be a nice guy. It's just really bad and wrong of him to want to seek revenge on an innocent boy. But hey! if people can still love Uchiha Sasuke for the crap he did just because he has a reason to do revenge, I don't see why Aoi is such a bad character. Naruto didn't give up on Sasuke and they are just friends, what makes Kana, not giving up on Aoi when they have been in a relationship together and done things for the first time to be cherished, such a crappy character? And Aoi! He's a baddie but deep down inside, he's really nice! He doesn't show it but deep down inside he really cares for Kana. He was just too blinded by wanting to seek revenge. I can understand the pain and anger he feels but I do not agree with him making use of Kana cos Kana is such a sweet little boy. :3 I think Aoi's pretty cool at times. As for the cousin, there's nothing bad to say about him. He's a true blue nice, kind hearted, caring, gentleman. Kana is so lucky! :) Enjoyment: 9/10 I gave such a mark because.. well, I've already wrote in the story section, I enjoyed it like like a rollercoaster ride. Not that I like rollercoasters actually but I went through sadness, disappointment, denial, happiness, relief, and in the end, I didn't want the manga to end just yet. That's how much I enjoyed this book. Overall: 9/10 I tend to give 9/10 and hardly ever 10/10 as I feel 10/10 is only for those I personally feel is perfect all around. I made this review because I didn't want people to just skip this manga based on what others have written. It's not your usual comedy and flowers blooming yaoi manga but it's also not your usual rape and fall in love and have sex every chance possible kinda yaoi manga. :) Give it a shot. Be your own judge. :D
The story was Good. 7/10- Reason: Cause it seemed rushed at the beginning and is kinda misleading when it comes to the characters and their roles. Example- the two cousins, you may think of something happening, and then the other guy appears. But it makes up by giving alot of plot twists and cliff-hangers. Art-6/10: Reason- Like most yaoi lovers, you'd expect the art to be fairly detailed and show the passion of the characters. This manga at the beginning didn't have that much detail and some of the characters looked generic. But as the manga gets better as it continues. Some parts are sketchybut it's something one can get over. Character-7/10: Ok- main character, push-over and you feel soooo sorry for him. This manga will actually make you wish you could redo his life for him. The secondary main characters, are both so serious and one is extremely hurtful and conniving, while the other is overly protective. They were hot, and one of them had a decent back-ground that was explained near the end of the manga and effects all the characters. Enjoyment Overall:9/10- As a soft yaoi manga it was fair and had some good elements. A nice first time for anyone wanting in.
So, it's been awhile scince I reviewed but I felt the urge to review this because it really pissed me off at times. Story: 6/10 The story could have been great, but I felt like they just took the perfect opportunities and ruined them. Seriously, don't be fooled everytime you think something good is going to happen to set the story back on track it goes the different way. It wasn't all so bad thought, the secrets that are uncovered are interesting. At times I did wander what is going to happen next. I think the best part was the middle. But really I'm trying not tospoil it. But there are just so many scenes I went, oh this is perfect! But the chapter following it destroyed the previous opinion. Art: 10/10 Honestly, the best part of this was the art. It had a light chilly feeling. (Fitting the title "Innocent Blue very perfectly) I don't know how to explain it, but I'm glad that it had this type of art because it actually improved the story. Character: 6/10 I really did like Kana's character at first. The way he was always weak and locked away. I kind of understand why he held on Aoi. But at one point it got to be to much, after Aoi did all that to him. He stupidly clung on to him. I guess the story made up for that when he explain why he loved him. And yea I get Aoi was had reasons to why he did the things he did. But seriously there is a limit. I actually hated Aoi's character, and thought little of Kana's towards the end. But the only character that really had some sense was the cousin Shuuya, seriously all this is going on and he figured out and saved Kana's so many times. I know it's wrong but I actually thought they should have ended up together. Yea there cousins, but this is manga and I've seen worse. Enjoyment: 7/10 It's not one of my favorites but I didn't completely drop it. It's a good read and you'll enjoy the art but that as much as I could enjoy it. Overall: 6/10 I know I'm being a bit harsh but THEY HAD SO MANY OPPORTUNITIES to get the story going in the right direction. It was like when they could have taken a right they took a left. If that even makes sense. But it's no so bad, I guess it's just cause I'm being a little childish because the story didn't go the way I planned. Anyways check it out for yourself. I'm sure it's an okay manga just to pass the time.
