Typical Light Novel affair. Light on substance and plot, heavy on minor character interactions that reinforce main character tropes. Nothing really fills out of the world, or adds to the plot if that's what you are expecting. It's not terrible, and it's well written, but it's closer to Slice of Life Kaisen than Jujutsu Kaisen. Nothing in the novel is particularly unique, or different from what you will find in a slice of life story, or supplementary light novel for a manga. Certainly, more could have been done in terms of lore, even if they introduced a new character only to kill them off again. It's not like the manga doesn't do that, so why shouldn't the novel? The lack of similarity to the manga has to be it's weak point since the typical reader of Jujutsu Kaisen will be expecting "more Jujutsu Kaisen".
Cursed spirits have struck the opening blow at Satozakura High School in an unfolding conflict against the Jujutsu Sorcerers. But while this epic and unyielding battle intensifies, the heroes of Jujutsu Kaisen have other mysteries to solve...such as why Yuji and Megumi see Gojo at a maid cafe, whether Nanami can uncover the secret behind a website that claims to sell dolls that resurrect the dead, and what happens when a blind old man is able to see the scheming Mahito.
