tldr; a cute manga to binge read. The art was fairly standard, both the main characters were better drawn as the chapters went on. As for the story, I teared up/cried once during these 54 chapters but then again I cry very easily so don't trust me on this. The main plot is pretty straightforward, they are a high school couple, but turns out the ML is the son of a strict household that ended up having 2 Prime Ministers, so they have to manage their relationship alongside having to follow the rules set by the family for generations. Thankfully, there wasn't any extra drama- there is no rival, and the misunderstandings aren't drawn out that long. However, there are a few chapters here and there, where it may feel a bit overwhelming because of all the information that's been dumped on the readers. Overall, this felt like one of those oneshot mangas, but in 54 chapters. I wish the author showed us what happened after the ending.
Yuuri Hasegawa is a laid-back teenager attending an average school. In contrast, Keiichirou "Keiichi" Katsuragi comes from an important family of politicians, bearing their expectations for him to lead the country in the future. And yet, despite their differences, Yuuri and Keiichi are in love with each other. Upon dating, Yuuri is astounded by Keiichi's seemingly endless list of traditions that he is required to uphold. He cannot engage in any degree of intimacy, and he is constantly tailed by an armada of bodyguards who report his every movement to his family. All Yuuri wants is a normal relationship, but every attempt she makes to breach her boyfriend's unyielding composure goes up in flames. While he might not show it explicitly, even Keiichi longs to be able to touch Yuuri. He looks for loopholes in his family's rulesβanything to improve the situation of his romance. Keeping their hands to themselves, Yuuri and Keiichi are forced to go against all odds to make their relationship last. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
I recommend going into this one as a "gag" manga/comedy. It was very far fetched at points to even feel realistic. If you read it thinking it's anything else (like a typical romance) you probably won't like it until maybe the end portion. STORY Firstly, the pacing is all over the place, like a whirlwind. For the bulk of the story you have FL trying her hardest to insert herself into ML's life, finding work arounds, bending the rules etc. so they can be together (ML is in a political family, always too busy yaddayadda). It gets very repetitive and slightly toxic after awhile. I almost droppedit a few times but saw it through so I could make a review. It's nice that the author didn't include a second ML / love triangle BUT I do feel it would've helped the "staleness" at times. Maybe it would've also encouraged ML to be a bit more direct. I honestly skimmed through a lot of the midsection - there were some info dumps in chapters that I felt to be a bit too much / out of place for the story (especially since it feels more like a gag manga). I did like how in the beginning you're kind of thrown into them already being somewhat of a couple / they have a history together. It's a nice change and I probably would've liked it less if we also had to go through all the pre-dating stuff on top of what happens in the story. CHARACTERS FL is top tier girlfriend material (though she is always crying over something). She's cute, knows what she wants, very devoted - though somewhat to an obsessive level. She definitely puts in the bulk of the effort in their relationship - which is both sad and frustrating. ML is kind and caring towards FL, they had many sweet & wholesome moments together that made me like him. Though he was annoying at times with his stubbornness and reluctance to go against his family's wishes...can't exactly fault him for it but this made FL miserable for a lot of the story. There were plenty of moments I hoped she would break up with him so she could enjoy the rest of her high school experience. It really just puts the focus on the FL & ML, I can't remember any other characters. ART The art was good! I loved all the colored covers before every chapter. Overall this story is nothing special. If you like rom coms / gag manga you'll probably like this one. If you're looking for something more serious, more complex / with depth, healthy relationships etc I would skip it. Enjoy it for the pretty art, maybe. Overall I think this story would be stronger if they took out some of the info dumping, added some more characters, made ML better - there's even an arc where ML guilts FL into quitting her part time job (bc he was jealous of male customers) to work as a maid at his estate...there she would MAYBE have the chance to be greeted by him - thus he would fulfill bare minimum boyfriendly duties. I thought this was a little ridiculous and sad. In the end I mostly felt bad for FL the whole time, lol.
I'm impressed with how much I liked it, I usually get stressed out by couples who take a long time to hold hands, kiss and that kind of thing. That's why I don't usually read high school manga or those with characters that are very well-behaved/innocent. However, I found this one very funny. It has a similar vibe to S.A: Special A or Kaguya-sama: Love Is War. They are nothing similar in terms of story, except that they take something silly from the everyday life of a teenager and turn it into a mission or a war . So small things in a couple's life, likeholding hands, kissing or hugging, turn into a big event. That's why I laughed so much at Keiichirou's eccentricity and Yuuri's creativity. I got a little irritated by Yuuri's absurd expectations, despite everything she went through she still remained very annoyingly positive. But you can understand her frustration, at first I also thought "it's better to break up". It seems that the ending ended in a bit of a rush, things escalated very quickly and part of the manga didn't even seem real, I was left with the feeling that it had been a dream or a filler. It ended with a feeling of wanting more, we root the whole manga for the couple, when they can finally be together like a normal couple, everything ends. The time passage panel, despite that, was very beautiful and I almost cried. Anyway, great manga, short and sweet, but it makes us want there to be more.
