I am used to most mangaka flopping their endings when they have a cool mystery hook, they usually "bite off more than they can chew" which results in an underwhelming finale, so I when I started this, I had prepared myself to be disappointed.. The thing is, this manga does not just flop the ending, it completely becomes a totally different manga with a totally different tone like 10 chapters in, gone is the interesting hook, instead.. it becomes a generic magical girl battle type manga, I legit had to check if my copy I got from Amazon came defective and they forgot to printa few chapters cause the change is so jarring. And the last few chapters is just a non-stop exposition dump where the mangaka desperately tries to mix a bunch of gibberish into something coherent (they fail). I have no idea what the mangaka was thinking, but it is very disappointing... cause the first few chapters did have me invested, I only finished reading it cause I had already bought all the volumes, and cause of the sunk cost fallacy... do not be me, there is way better manga out there. As for the art itself, I would say its pretty decent, pretty even sometimes, which is why I am not giving this a 1, but some of the battle scenes just looked like an incomprehensive mess. Anyways, I would not recommend this to anyone, unless you really like the art style or something.
Pieta lives an ordinary life in a world of constant black rain. On her 16th birthday, she experiences a series of unlucky events, yet she remains content as the day continues, having expected that these events would happen. Pieta takes satisfaction from the seemingly normal day in which her friend, Danae, gives her a present at school and she blows out the candles on her cake after returning home to her mother. For the 1033rd time, the next day is Pieta's birthday once again, and she goes through her daily routine by meeting up with Danae. But unlike the day before, Danae experiences the same awful events Pieta suffered previously. Seeing Pieta's calm anticipation of things, Danae realizes that they are both stuck in a time loop. Pieta is elated that she is no longer alone, although her companion remains in shock. However, little do they know that something very sinister lies within the time loop. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
(ch 1-10) This is the best Mystery Manga I have ever read. It takes place in a dystopian city in which a the main character Pieta Moscoppi has relived her 16th birthday 1032 times. The story follows Pieta's journey to escaping from the time loop as well as stopping incidents that occur along the way. (ch 11-36) The manga has a dramatic shift and it turns into a generic magical girl battle manga in which Pieta Moscoppi and friends fight against magical girls and evil organizations. Many plot holes occur which is the writer trying to scramble together a somewhat coherent story after the genre switch. If you wantto read Coffee Moon just read chapters 1-10 and pretend it ended. If you decide to read past that, may god be with you. Chapters 1-10 10/10 Chapters 11-36 3/10
I remember having read the first volume some time ago and recently I decided to read through the manga in the span of some days. The first narrative arch is great, nice and distinctive narrative hook, really well drawn. But it almost looks like it was meant to be a short two-volumes narrative, not the six it turned out to be. I feel like the characters introduced in the first two volumes are the only ones to get a proper development, while the ones introduced after, are almost an afterthought; some secondary characters don't get developed at all. The story itself is quite enjoyable; personally, as stated before,I prefer the concept of the first narrative arc, but I can't complain too much as it never got bad per se. However, it feels a bit far-fetched at times, and some of the revelations lack coherence. Especially, it becomes more generic, losing most of its initial charm. The ending closes the main plot point, but I feel like it was a bit rushed. It was, all things considered, satisfying, but after reading again the first two volumes I had higher expectations: somewhat of a missed chance. I would still suggest to read the first two volumes, though.
