I can't believe this LN is so underrated. I randomly picked up a copy at a shop in germany and didn't know what to expect, but after finishing my readthrought, I became really emotional. What I love most about this LN is how well it portrays isolation and mental health problems. I also thought that the plot about the parasites was really interesting and unique! The two main character's were both likable and I defintly felt the romantic chemistry between them (I really like romances where both leads are isolated from their peers and find comfort in each other.) I defintly recommend reading this if youlike stories that focus on the inner world's of social outsiders, as well if you enjoy romances whit science-fiction elements.
The story is about a man whose compulsive tendencies make it impossible for him to keep a job, and a young girl who skips school and loves insects. The two meet, come to support each other in reintegrating into society, and fall in love. Thereβs a problem, however: namely, the parasites in their heads. (Source: vgperson)
An open-ended conclusion with no resolve is not deep, no I don't want to have my own interpretation, I would write my own story if that was the case. A meaningless tragic love story that holds no message, this is due to the fact that the story was built on the parasites rather than the characters. Instead of building the story on the dynamics between the characters, the hardships they go through and resolve, it revolved around the sci-fi element. All the literary potential was wasted, such a shame. If the story had no potential at all, I would have not hated it this much, ifit had nowhere to go from the start I won't care at all. To have such a promising premise, just to waste it effortlessly on a forbidden love/sci-fi trope, it is genuinely offensive.
Parasites In Love has great art, a cool plot, and diverse characters. When I first started reading it, it seemed pretty good. But, the further I went, the less interesting the storyline became. I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but I'm the type of person who just cant read every single word in a manga or book so I personally did not enjoy reading it as much as I thought I would..And because of this, when I reached the end of the manga, I was completely confused so I re-read it with the same outcome. But, setting that all aside, I would definitelyrecommend this to someone if they're stuck with not knowing what to read because it's short but "enjoyable" to read.
