thereâs not much to say but damn i mightâve dropped some tears. this story might seem like a cliche âbestfriend to loverâ type but itâs much more. the story is one of those slow burn stories that you canât put down until you finish it. the story covers some of the real issues many lgbt couples have to face. the art style is amazing and the characters are so well balanced and honestly pretty unique compared to other yaoi mangas. i like how the story isnât just a basic childhood friends to lover type of deal but it actually shows how the pressures of societycan hold people back from what they truly want. this manga shows some of the reality which i really appreciate
Kasumi and Kyousuke are polar opposites when it comes to personality. Kasumi is reserved, soft-spoken and shy; Kyousuke is energetic and has always been popular among their peers. As the saying goes though, opposites have a tendency to attract, and these two have been fast friends since elementary school. To Kasumi, Kyousuke has always been a hero to look up to, someone who supports him and saves him from the bullies. But now, school is over; their relationship suddenly becomes a lot less simple to describe. Facing the worldâand one anotherâas adults, both men find there are things they struggle to say out loud, even to each other. (Source: Tokyopop)
I will say yes Kasumi and Kyousuke are childhood friends, which many yaoi mangas tend to have but this one gives the approach of realism. Not something cliche that has the off chance of happening or utterly ridiculous. They struggle through their own hardships of understanding one another, and what society would think of them together which is a hardship in life when dating the same gender. I do have to say this story is quite short but definitely worth the read. It has a realistic approach, and it doesn't overwhelm you with yaoi scenes. But don't underestimate the feels! Brought a tear to me andcould to you. Not much to else to say besides, read it!
From the get-go I felt the pacing of this story and the way it gets to the heart of the characterâs personalities was well done. There was a good mixture of show and tell, revealing Kyousukeâs character through his actions (i.e. showing us heâs a hard worker (read: workaholic) and has seemingly high morals through his work at the advertising company) and revealing Kasumiâs character through Kyousukeâs thoughts and feelings. The conflict between Kyousukeâs morals and Kasumiâs actions and feelings are also apparent from their first interaction on the page, and solidified when they meet again. There are a lot of layersânot only the tension ofloving someone unrequitedly and being so physically close with that someone, but also the tension of this individual having their own (unrequited?) love with a woman in a relationshipâŠand believing that that is wrong, fundamentally, even though you love this person so deeply and have known them for years. (This is all without mentioning the generally openlyâand internallyâhomophobic nature of the Japanese public as portrayed in the manga.) Without revealing too many spoilers, things arenât entirely complete from just seeing Kyousukeâs POV, and digging into what happened between the two throughout their school days (and how that ended) is what sets off the chain of events that make this BL so spectacular. It makes us ask harder questions, like: Does Kyousuke really have âhigh morals,â or is he jealous? That internalized homophobia of his that has so wholly convinced him that being in a gay relationship is an impossibility for himself or those he cares aboutâthe belief that that is âgrossâ or âwrongââis really what this manga gets to the heart of. Itâs up to Kyousuke to grow from the past and accept himself in order to finally be there for the one he loves the mostâbefore itâs too late.
A long while ago, I tried actually downloading this manga on Netgalley but unfortunately, my stupid kindle tablet wouldn't download the bloody thing for me. That was until I read it today yay lol! Anyways I very much liked the art on this bad boy and really was interested on how it deep dived into each guys life story from when they first met at school. However I felt confused with the uke on how he wants the relationship to continue but yet he wanted to break it off without any reasoning at all? Yeah he said he thought the seme was feeling sorry forhim but why did he think that though? Yeah my head is effin confused.com lads by their relationship lmao... Look if you like slice of life yaoi shenanigans, this one's for you chaps!!
