Okay, so quick little review. I love Nagabe and their art. I was shocked to even find this book out in public in the US. SO I didn't have to go through more 'sea shanty' troubles to read it. I have to say as this is technically my first yaoi/boy's love story that this is great. The stories were cute, the characters feel real, and I found the premise of a magic-like fantasy world cool. The only story I didn't end up liking was the one with the bat boys. Since at first, I thought it was going to be brother love, and it made mea tad bit uncomfortable. My favorite story was with the crow and peacock. Doug and Huey. By far one of the funniest chapters in the story. So if you like gays and/or furries this is the manga for you. Any Nagabe manga for that matter.
Hidden away deep within the woods, far from the prying eyes of the world, lies the Wizdom's School of Wizarding. There beasts of all kinds gather to live, to learn, and to love. From everyday animals to fantastical creatures, these BL stories are told with a realistic and light-hearted touch. (Source: Seven Seas Entertainment)
In general I love that is a quick read, but in a little of time is capable of warm your heart, with eight small stories that have magical features in a magical kingdom, it demostrates the purest facts of love and friendship. Also I love the details and desing of the art and the develoment of the characters based in the kind if animals they area, in so little of time you have a glipse of their lives and problems but at the same time is enough to fall in love with them. Yesterday I slept with a smile in my face. It was what ineed, to feel calm and grateful in my life again. Really beautiful work, it feels like a detox of all the over dramatic, sad and violent kind of stories that i like to read.
I couldn't help but feel I was missing something in this manga. Perhaps it is simply not to my taste--the anthropomorphic animal elements (I hesitate to use the word "furry" when I'm not part of that community as I don't know if it strictly applies here) leaves me cold, and most of the BL dynamics/tropes portrayed here are not for me, and that's fine - I am not the target audience. I did enjoy the diversity of characters and relationships portrayed, as well as the hints of worldbuilding we get. We spend too short a time in this world to engage in heavy worldbuilding, thoughsome elements were intriguing enough to make me curious to see more - we're teased at the end by the revelation that humans do exist in this world, but live completely separately from the demihumans (a continually dissatisfying translation choice because what group of people names themselves in comparison to another?) but the manga doesn't feel empty for its light worldbuilding. In fact, it feels cozy, and I enjoyed seeing the characters from previous stories reappear. I would certainly recommend this to those who are intrigued by the demihuman aspect and who are deeper fans of BL for BL's sake than I am - it's like a warm cup of cocoa, just not my favorite flavor.
Loved it soo much. The atmosphere, the worldbuilding so fascinating with all the things about magic and also the description of all the different species and their characteristics showed someways in all the stories. I'd like to see a more "completed" version of it. Like more detailed about the world of Wizdoms in total, also the reference to humans and why they do live separated from demi-humans. Loved all the stories, but the last one of Mauchly and Charles was my fave!!! Super recommended for some BL furry/non-human but without sexual elements, it just remains in the area of "cute little things" and ways of relationships between allthese characters. Loved it: 10!!!
