A RomCom manga that was cut short before it truly gained momentum. This is a romantic comedy about the Red Ranger/Sentai and the villainess lieutenant dating while attempting to keep it secret from everyone around them. Basically you should know exactly what you're getting into after reading that brief summary. It's cute and adorable but it's also very cliché and full of tropes but you'll enjoy it anyways. I know I did. Despite the demographic being 'shounen' and being published in a monthly shounen magazine, this story comes off more like a 'Shoujo' or even 'Otome'. Fudo (the Red Sentai/Male Protagonist) is your standard overly good guy herowho leans towards muscle for brains and falls for Desumi (the villain lieutenant/female protagonist). Desumi on the other hand is an abnormally strong, cutesy girl who is only a villain because it's a family-tradition job and treats it like it's just something her parents' want for her and she doesn't want to disappoint them. You get a nice idea about Fudo's teammates personalities but they actually don't get much screen time in the manga compared to Desumi's villain coworkers. Whereas Desumi's coworkers and friends actually get much more screen time and development and they're all very enjoyable and funny. The art is very clean and simple with surprising amounts of detail but there are a few times when it feels a little messy, if that makes sense. Sadly this manga was told to wrap up its story as it was getting axed due to the manga not getting enough attention despite having an anime adaptation. So it at least had an ending, albeit rushed, at the cost of all the potential shenanigans and fun to be had with all its characters. You can still read it for the lighthearted cutesy fun, just know that you'll probably feel like it never reached its peak by the time you finish reading.
In the eyes of the public, Fudou Aikawa and Desumi Magahara are sworn enemies who have nothing in common. Fudou, also known as "Red Gelato," is the leader of the hero squadron "Gelato 5," whose mission is to bring about world peace. On the other hand, Desumi is the minion leader of "Gekko," a villainous organization seeking world domination. However, despite these differences, their relationship is not quite what it seems. When they are not making a show of being at each other's throats, Desumi and Fudou continue to pursue a forbidden love. Going on dates, baking sweets for one another, and meeting up as often as they can despite their hectic schedules, the two inexperienced lovebirds pave the way for their own unique relationship. Though their public lives are worlds apart, Fudou and Desumi will stop at nothing to make their seemingly impossible romance work. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
TL:DR Cute but shallow. It feels like the romance equivalent of junk food, good if you want something low-stakes and wholesome but I prefer something with a bit more substance Story: 5/10 Interestingly, this manga has both MCs together right from the very beginning. They're both dating so, rather than the 'chase', we're primarily seeing their relationship deepen and grow. I like this setup. Fairly cliche situations but sometimes shaken up by the main characters being supposed mortal enemies and trying to date under their respective organisation's nose's. This leads to fun situations and good situation comedy. It's a short manga that's tightly focused on the main couple but thiscan also mean it's shallow. Low-stakes, minimal drama and a straightforward romcom. Some thing wholesome to clear the mind perhaps? Maybe that's your cup of tea but it feel like the literary equivalent of junk food. What does this do for me that looking at cute cat pictures wouldn't? Two romantic rivals, for the male MC who was already dating from the start and they're resolved in a single chapter each as well. Seriously, why? This feels even more useless than when romance manga normally try and force a tension with a rival. As mentioned previously, the manga quite short and it shows. Any drama is swiftly resolved in a single chapter, side characters get very little ‘screen time’ etc. Also leaving a volume on a cliffhanger only to immediately resolve the situation in the first few pages of the next volume is bad and you should feel bad. Character: 5/10 The main characters are cute and have great chemistry. They actually communicate with each other instead of making assumptions and avoid pointless drama. The manga is squarely focused on their relationship, so they don't really have a chance to be developed as characters of their own. For example, Fudou is straightforward and a gym nut but we don't really learn much more. Every side character gets about one chapter devoted to them and then a few scenes together, save beast princess who gets a little more screen time. As mentioned previously, they're not much more than walking gags to fill in the spaces when other characters are necessary for a plot point or joke but at least they're entertaining. Art: what would a 10 even be?/10 The artist is good with making faces expressive, such as good reaction shots, which is critical in a romance or comedy and doubly important in a romcom. Character designs are good. Overall: 6/10 An enjoyable manga, wholesome and fun but nothing more than that. It's too short and shallow to be an amazing romance and, while funny, it's not a gut busting hilarious. Of course, there is nothing wrong with something being a light read so don't be put off if that's what you're looking, you can't go wrong with this manga. Mixed recommendation: great if you 're looking for something cute and wholesome just to unwind a little. If you're wanting something with more substance, look elsewhere.
This is a pretty straightforward romcom (it really is more of a romcom than anything else) that's cute, harmless and really quite funny. I realised after writing a more in depth review that honestly the key here is simplicity. It's a low-drama romantic comedy with some fun twists and turns, great characters (even the side characters are funny and endearing). While everything does the job its supposed to do well the characters stand out as being really fun for me. If you want something sweet and low key to relax and laugh to pick this up, plus it's not super long so it's pretty easy toget through without a huge cost and time commitment.
A nice short romcom. The rom is pretty much as cliché as it can get, the interactions between the main couple rather than romantic are cute, it's the type of romance that doesn't really make your heart pound but makes you go "aww". The com on the other hand was very enjoyable. I especially liked the dynamic between the female lead and green gelato Aigo, it was hilarious seeing the equivalent of a power ranger being scared shitless at the sight of a girl that's cute as a button. Surprisingly I didn't hate the ending, even though it was rushed. For an axed manga it endspretty gracefully which is rare. I guess some of the side charcters could've used a little more development but it's nothing I'll lose sleep over. Obviously a time skip ending is kinda cheap as always, but I didn't feel any of that frustration that you'd feel after reading the average rushed axe ending. Overall it was a light and midly entertaining read.
you know, the gimmick of the evil team versus the power ranger team, i think it's cute and i think it's silly, and it was a good short time. classic cliches of many a manga where there's a rival, non-communication, misunderstandings, couple being embarrassed at the smallest things, cliches of school life, but I'M GONNA SAY IT, I thought it was a fun read with an enjoyable gimmick. There were great wholesome moments and I wished we got more progression of beast princess and the guy on gelato 5 who was into her. I think it's a manga that doesn't overstay its welcome at itsalmost 40 chapters, short and sweet with nice art and character designs but rather one note characters, which is fine for a, to borrow other reviewer's words, fast food experience of some lovebirds going through it. Just two fumbling dummies who are extremely strong and going about love for the first time.
