Disney has Kingdom Hearts and W.I.T.C.H. wich are both great series, but that's as close to the world of Manga they should've gotten, and High School Musical: The Manga proves it. It's an overused load of BS story that was already a corporately-whored out ripoff of another series (Grease, wich was GREAT) that tells the tale of a bunch of fairytale endings in High School. I'm gonna put this out now by saying that I'm in High School right now, and it's NOTHING like this BS. Hell, Rosario+Vampire is a more accurate depiction of High School life than this load of crap is. I'll be fair though,it was drawn fairly decently. It doesn't make up for the fact that it's unreadable, though. If you somehow find this on your shelf, you'dve better have gotten it on a bet, because otherwise you completely fail at all types of life. I wouldn't even torture your poor computer through reading it or downloading it online. It's that bad.
Coached by his father, high school student Troy Bolton has been playing basketball for his entire life. However, he has never been passionate about the sport and feels like he is unable to choose his own path—especially when compared to his girlfriend, the smart and beautiful Gabriella Montez. As the final day of high school approaches, Troy resolves to prepare himself for the future. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
This manga is so unbelievably pathetic that it doesn't deserve a lengthy review - I'm truly not sure whether MAL users are trolling when they actually care enough to dissect why this manga is bad, when it's literally ten pages. Granted, it should get extra merit points for the comedic value. I won't advise you to read this, but it's definitely a great manga to share with your peers and go "BEST MANGA OF 5EVER READ OR DIE" and watch their horrified expressions.
What do you get when you mix a fairly decent mangaka who's out of ideas and Disney - who now wants to become international with no avail? You get High School Musical! The manga. Yay! No, I'm kidding. It was dreadful. Story: It was absolutely pathetic. I hated HSM when it was a stupid kids' movie, so I'm not exactly sure why I was drawn to the manga. I read 1 chapter, and I could already tell the score would be the same amount of chapters I read. Which was close to 0. Everything in the first chapter was rushed and the timing was horrible.Given, this was not the mangaka's actual plot, so I can't say I hate her just yet... Art: The art was pretty good, to be honest. I gave it a fair 6. Hey, anyone who can make a guy with the bushiest hair I have ever seen in my life look good, is amazing in my standards. Character: Dreadful. They're all perfect little teenagers who think they have it bad because of some relationships flaw. Oh puh-lease. Given, the character development is a 2. Enjoyment: Too bad they don't have any score lower than a 1. Overall: It was just terrible. A 1, obviously. I truly hated it, and I should've never started reading it. The only good aspect was the cute art. But don't let this manga that should have never been created let you ignore the mangaka's other works. I've read some of her other shoujo mangas - and they were pretty good.
Don't dismiss this opportunity to try the limited one chapter available. Very sweet read, easy enough to understand and followed the films closely (based mostly on the 3rd film). Would love to see more released as anyone here would but what can ya do? If you enjoy this why not re-watch the films am I right? As a fellow wildcat I can say this manga put my head in the game ;) A classic scene featuring the tree house heartwarming discussion of future prospects leaves us wondering how graduation will turn out. You can clearly see this piece may have influenced works such as K-on!, LoveLive, High School Star Musical as well as epics such as Star Wars. Clearly one of the best coming of age tales of not only modern day but all time. Honestly a true masterpiece of our time taking detail and scenery into account.
I started reading this manga for the meme, just found the worst rated manga on the site and decided to see how bad it really was to get such a low rating.. and well.. I was pleasantly surprised! This may have been one of the most impactful stories I’ve ever read, it inspired me to reach great achievements, I got into the best university in my country, I started playing basketball which became my favorite hobby, I got many new friends, and I’ve never been happier. This manga seriously means so much to me. I still reread it at least once a week even after 5years. This is truly a hidden gem, a masterpiece. Last week my grand-grandfather was having his last moments in the hospital, I rushed over, and I knew what i had to do, I needed to read him this touching story. Through tears I managed to read it out, and as I read the last words of the manga — “a celebration party for wild cats”, his heart stopped beating. I burst into tears, but I was glad that my grand-grandfather spent his final moments in happiness. I started zoning out as the realization hit me, he’s… dead… … … “Beep” “Beep” “OH MY GOD HE CAME BACK TO LIFE!?” That’s when i got back to reality, my grand-grandfather’s heart started beating again, and he had this smirk on his face that just read “you made it”. My entire family started crying even harder, but this time it was out of happiness, everyone was hugging each other as I was staring in disbelief. My grand-grandfather looked me in the eyes and asked me: “What was the name of the story you read me earlier?” To which I proudly answered: “High School Musical”. He passed away 2 months later btw Back to the story itself. Story - 10/10 As I said earlier, this was the most heart touching story I’ve read, a true tearjerker. So many plot twists , and it truly felt like I was there with the characters, experiencing their heartbreaks and celebrating their victories. This author is a true genius! Characters - 9/10 My only complaint is that Taylor didn’t get much screen time, she had so much potential, I’m hoping the author continues the story so we can see more of her, she is my favorite! Besides that, all the characters were great, they truly felt like real people, the author is great at writing characters, and the designs were gorgeous too! Art - 9.5/10 It took me a while to get used to the art style, but after 3 years of reading I finally understood the appeal, and since then it’s been my favorite thing ever, this artist has some talent! Enjoyment - 100000/10 BEST. MANGA. EVER. Overall - 10/10
