So - I admit I don´t read much manga, but I´m translating one series by this mangaka, Pandora Hearts. And I browsed around and found Crimson Shell. As I saw it has only 6 chapters, I decided "why not read it?" In the end, the length was the thing that made this series lose a point because it was outstanding. Story - 9 The story was shockingly outstanding right from the beginning. It was exciting from the start and in the ends it had breath-taking situations which is a great +. Yet after finishing the last chapter I was like "why is this not any longer?"that´s why I gave it a 9 Art - 10 Was outstanding, well-developed at the start and at the end too. It was all-clear, and the whole manga had a bit of a dark-styled feel which I really like. (I wish there would be an OVA for this.) Character - 9 The point goes down because of the length, again. They seemed awesomly developed, but there weren´t enough chapters to know them well enough. Enjoyment - 10 As I said, this manga was exciting from the start and even got into the breath-taking zone in the end. So a 10 without any doubts Overall - 9 - Should definetly be longer. But definetly was amazing!!!
A genius mad scientist once bred a special flower in his quest for eternal youth and immortality, implanting the seeds of this "Premier Rose" in human beings. Housing roses inside their bodies granted the human hosts not only various benefits, but also various side effects, including the need for the roses to feed off of victims. The majority of the test subjects, "Black Roses," were used as living weapons and kept under control by their creator. One subject of the experiment was dubbed a "defective failure" and hidden away. Claudia the "Rose Witch," also called a "Crimson Rose," normally does not need to feed on humans and only does so if she loses her self-control. When the Roses' creator disappeared five years ago, the organization conducting research swiftly rebranded as "Red Rose." Brought out of the shadows, Claudia became Red Roses' primary means to eliminate the suddenly untamable Black Roses. Guarded by the "Thorn," Wilhelm, who shares a blood covenant with her—and working with a special division of Red Rose named "Crimson-Shell"—Claudia must survive betrayal by a suspected traitor within the organization, as well as discover the truth behind a "Jet Rose" who may be leading the Black Roses. Crimson shell achieves a fleshed out story with great characterization in the span of only 6 chapters. This is a huge feat considering many stories can take up to 100 to 200 chapters and they still lack these things.. Crimson shell is another tragic tale by Jun that revolves around " a rose" and its"Thorn" "A locked up shell" who is rescued by a "friend". It takes inspiration from sleeping beauty but its soo minor that you dont really notice it until the very end, considering how different the story and the mechanics are It follows the themes of friendship, Betrayal and loyalty with addition to self worth aswell. All these themes are potrayed beatifully with a great ending which is sad but perfect for this mini manga series. I am surprised by how unpopular it is though considering its quite short but amazing at the same time and as i said Most stories cannot even fill the themetics, Characterization and story department even with the span of 100 chapters or a great no of episodes.. However as short as it might be, Its quite confusing as well. Considering alot of information is provided in just 6 chapters so it might be worth rereading to understand or to grasp the concepts completely Story 10/10 Art 9/10 CHaracter 9/10 Overall 10/10 The reason I have gave it a 10 is due to its length. I agree it could have been longer but the fact that it was short and still achieved this much is the reason i personally think it is a masterpiece Its Highly recommended to anyone who likes tragedies and Jun s writing style
I would give this a all 10 but it had the capabilities of being more than a one-shot. This one-shot had everything perfectly placed for how short it was. Excitement, betrayal, love, friendship, evilness, and at the end a very sad part that made me cry. It's obviously done by the same author which makes me love it even more. If you love Pandora Hearts then you will love this one-shot. The art was beautiful, the character were done quickly and right. It doesn't look that much but Pandora Hearts fans! Read this one-shot! You will like it! And the plot is really good. Toobad it didn't become something bigger, it would have been a really good series
After reading the other reviews for this manga I had high hopes. Unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations or even come close to them. This was not good and the reason is that it is too short. It has a very interesting premise, but not nearly enough time to flesh it out. You don't learn new information organically at a moderate pace, you get infodumps. Except the infodumps don't even make sense because you haven't seen the information applied to a scenario to fully grasp it. Aside from that, the characters are very flat and I didn't care what happened to anyof them because I was not given enough time with them to fully get to know them and start to care. Overall this manga had the potential to be very good but the fact that it is so short is what hinders it the most.
