The manga only covers the first volume of the Light Novel. Might read the 2nd LN because the first one is severely lacking. The ending seems lackluster and ended in a weird place. Also character development for the side characters is mediocre. I get that the tropes but minimal growth ain't that bad. They already proved Haru is amazing. That's it. If you read the manga it will be confusing as hell as I was and some people that like to wrap things up neatly needs to read a novel. Its mid specially the ending wish they adapted the later volumes of the LN though.
To be so brief, as not to include spoilers, I have mixed feelings about this Isekai despite giving it such a high rating. For the most part, I'd say I would not recommend this story for anyone looking for fantasy elements within a fantasy world, as this story relies heavily on realism and the rawness of humankind in it's most deprecating form. Yet somehow, I found that unapologetic "rawness" to be entertaining. As I'd seen from another user's review, this story is definitely an implication of a more realistic approach to the misogynistic, self insert, fantasies that are often found prevalent in the Isekai genre. The charactersare heavily flawed in their own logic, this however pairs well with the way of life each character has chosen. I find portions of the story very illogical and uncomfortable or unnecessary, but in a way, the writer somehow manages to make it stick its landing. Thus allowing the reader to attempt to understand its character's and setting in an entertaining, albeit jarring way. As I said at the beginning, I have mixed feelings about this story, especially its ending. Yet for what it is, I'd consider it a masterpiece. It's imperfections allows it to be perfect as is in my eyes. I apologize if this is vague, I have so many thoughts toward this story yet I can't find the words to accurately review it. Also, as a side note, my ratings are done individually-- meaning a 8/10 for this would not be equate to my overall satisfaction level nor would this 8 look the same as a 8 for another work within the same or different genre. I rate each story for what it is in itself. My overall satisfaction reading this is about a 7.5/10.
Haru Koyama was an ordinary student until her moron classmate got them both in a terrible accident. Now Haru has been transported to another world where only men are allowed to be adventurers. Determined to make the most of it, she takes a job in the Blue Cat Nocturne brothel to make a living the only way she knows how. No cheat abilities, no powers, just her quick wits and naughty bits! This manga is rare, at least from my own experience of the isekai genre. It tackles the setting without tropes and in a serious way. Comedy is present, dark comedy it is, and in a way that some people may find it disgusting (for a lack of a better word) or just plain weird at best. The story sure is full of monologue, but that's okay because we get to know the thoughts of the characters, especially the protagonist. The pacing of the plot is slow and steady, with the protagonist getting accustomed with the new world she was in bit by bit, givingoff a slice of life vibe. Despite the awful setting the protagonist was in, she still fought against the norms in her own little ways with the tenacity to survive and inspired other characters to do the same, giving off some interest to the reader to follow along her story. As for the ending, without stepping into spoiler territory, just don't expect something great will happen. The art is good though, like, the background art was drawn in full detail. Sex scenes were a bit so-so. Don't expect something more graphic. It still does work well with the narrative without being too explicit though. Final thoughts. The title is surely interesting, but the same can't be said for the overall story. Some may like it for its novelty and others may not due to the topic probably. Just like what was written above, the ending will leave the reader hanging, so it would be best to read the novel version to give the story a better close for the reader.
I truly want to like this manga but even though there is an interesting premise the story goes nowhere and by the end none of the plot points are resolved. You'd think with a female protagonist on the bottom of the social ladder, reincarnated in a fantasy world, this would make for a unique read compared to male-centered isekai powerfantasies... Which it partially is for the first half of the story, but after a while the author threw everything out of the window. They could have leaned more into the serious nature of Haru's situation or made something interesting with the uncommon setup. Instead, apartfrom the heroines profession, we get something largely mediocre and run of the mill. The art can be pretty at times but the story is barebones, sprinkled with female sexual fantasy that, at the same time, also tries to appeal to the male readership. The sex is fairly explicit without being downright hentai. In short, the manga doesn't really know what it wants to be. It's a fun read for the first couple of chapters but don't feel bad for dropping it halfway through. You won't miss out.
I now know how people who didn't like Poor Things felt about it. There are some good ideas in this story, but the execution wasn't there. Sexism, prostitution and how isekai stories treat women are all interesting things so I was expecting so much from it, but most of the time it failed to deliver. The comedy didn't work for me and so many characters felt underdeveloped, they could've done so much more with them and it is a shame we never got to see that. Still I would recommend it to people who like to take stories apart and think about what worked and whatdidn't.
