Bokura wa Nandomo Koi wo Suru is heartbreaking. It is a tale of love, loss, regret, and time travel. If you are looking for a more serious BL manga that isn't about high schoolers, or, you enjoyed the later episodes of Steins;Gate with all the looping and sadness, then you will love this manga. The manga starts off by introducing the character Issei, or Ii-chan, an average salaryman, that is sex-friends with Ban, a traveling cameraman. Their relationship is sweet, and Ban truly believes that they are destined to be together. Ban brought Issei a gift from his recent trip, an incense burner that is supposedto be used when misfortune strikes. The next day when Ban and Issei go to meet up for their 1-year anniversary, Ban is caught in a car accident and dies. Wrecked with guilt about not properly telling Ban his feelings, Issei miraculously turns back time with the incense burner and continues to try and redo his life as much as possible to bring Ban back. Seeing Issei's struggle was really difficult for me because he is doing his best for the one he loves, and it's so clearly conveyed. Every panel had so much emotion, but it's not over the top, all their expressions seem fitting for the situation. If you took some scenes out of context you could still feel the longing and sadness based on their faces alone. Both Issei and Ban are distinct from each other, with completely different lifestyles and designs. (Ban even has facial hair, which isn't super common in BL.) Yet, it never seems like they're unsuitable for each other, they just have a good dynamic between them. Overall, this manga is fantastic. If you have ever lost somebody you loved and thought about bringing them back, you might enjoy this manga, as Issei is in those same shoes.
Unsociable salaryman Issei has kept his relationship with Ban strictly sexual. Even though Ban is kind and loving, Issei cannot bring himself to express his feelings in any other way but physically. Fortunately, nothing has been a hurdle in their relationship, and their meeting's first anniversary is nearβa chance for Issei to turn over a new leaf. However, his zealous spirit quickly fades when Ban suddenly dies in a car accident on the exact day. Having no other companion in the world, Issei is drowning in regret with a broken heart, wishing he could turn back time. But when supernatural forces interfere, Issei finds himself in the past, days before Ban's death. Now presented with a second chance, Issei is eager to make up for his shortcomings and save his partner from a tragic fate. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
