A short but really well-written story that is about grief and acceptance of loss. It presents them in a realistic way, even if, not to spoil anything, one supernatural element is being used as a storytelling tool. The art is rather alright. Good enough to tell the story properly and entertain the viewer. It would be great if it was actually better, more detailed, with even more expressive facial expressions, but like I mentioned before, it's okay as it is. I liked how, despite featuring just two characters in such a short story, the readers can easily get a glimpse of their distinct personalities and basic desires. All of that blends well with the main storyline. This manga is surely a quick read due to its length. But I think it's worth recommending for its unique main theme and handling such a mature topic very well.
Ilya, the love of Aisei's life, suddenly passed away in an accident. Her death caused his entire world to fade into a monochromatic silence until three ghosts appear before him during Ilya's funeral. The trio introduce themselves as different versions of Ilyaβeach carrying their own regret that prevents them from passing on into the afterlife. Despite having to directly face his grief, Aisei agrees to help the three Ilyas move on while slowly coming to terms with his new reality. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
you've heard of "my shayla," now get ready for "my ilya." jokes aside, ilya is a beautiful manga regardless of its length. the message is integrated beautifully in the story and explores love and loss through a simple yet impactful lens. while the supernatural aspect of this manga is but a plot tool to explore these themes, it's done in a very poignant way that allows you to empathize with our main lead, aisei, without making it seem too fantastical or whimsical. the art-style is simple and brings in together the plot of the story, treading delicately with presenting a story of love and loss thatis known all too well by many people. if you're a yearner, you just may find yourself enjoying this.
