This one is for the lovers of slow burn. Achira Kochira Bokura tells the story of two classmates with very different personalities (one introverted and shy, other extroverted and charismatic) who befriend each other against the odds. As a slice of life, there's not a lot going on in terms of plot, focusing mainly on their school life, their struggles with university entrance exams, their relationship with other classmates and above all it shows how the relationship between the two main characters slowly grows and changes and how they change with it. The romance and character development are subtle but very present, and it feels likethey develop very naturally. Since this was originally published as a seinen and not a BL (although since then it has been republished under a BL label), the romance is more subdued than in the average BL, and it avoids many tropes typical of BL, so in that sense, it feels quite fresh. The artstyle is also very unique. It's a realistic and sweet story that was really enjoyable to read, and I think it's very relatable to anyone who has found themselves developing romantic feelings for a friend.
One day, Majima, one of everyone's favorite person in class, gets to see a surprising side to Sonoki, the class introvert. Since then, Majima can't help but notice Sonoki and call out to him for no reason, hoping for any kind of reaction... When Sonoki turns red and gets all shy like that, how can Majima not fall in love with him? But when it's time to go up a grade, they're not in the same class anymore... (Source: Fantasista Inc.)
I loved this, I truly did. The art style is so unique, and the characters were entertaining and had depth. The dialogue was great, I laughed out loud so many times and was smiling and crying with the characters from beginning to end. Bottom line, this is a terrific story that you need to read. The only reason I don't give it a 10 is because of the ending. Have you read blue flag? Yes, the ending instantly made me think of it. Just like in blue flag the author decided to do a time skip and deprive us of the content we so desperatelywant to see. I'm disappointed, but unlike blue flag, I loved this story so extremely much that the ending didn't ruin this lovely reading experience. Please read this!
