A military girl's Yuri manga..? Pass. If that's what you're thinking, STOP RIGHT THERE! On a serious note, this Yuri manga is seriously a treasure amongst the endless Yuri manga which are more or less just copy and pastes of something you've read before. Every aspect of this manga exceeds in my eyes. the development towards the end regarding practically all the primary characters, the way the plot ties into other affairs, the side characters, etc, it's everything you could want from a Yuri series with the exception of being in a military setting. The setting also adds a sense of creativity to the series. The military setting isn't only for show, these are genuine people training to become people worthy of respect. We see them start from the bottom and work their way up to high ranks. Definitely a good read and I hope to see an anime adaptation of this in time!
Coming from a poor family, Shinobu Indou is overjoyed to be accepted into a prestigious all-girls military academy. While searching for the campus, Indou bumps into two upperclassmen, Fujino Kagami and Koto Ooba. Kagami criticizes Indou's unkempt appearance and questions her reasons for attending the academy. However, Ooba kindly greets Indou and offers to take her to a local bathhouse. As the girls finish their bath, Ooba is shocked by Indou's incredible beauty beneath the dirt. On the first day of school, Indou notices a surprising amount of attention centered on her—especially coming from Kagami, who is tasked with supervising Indou's group. Despite Kagami's harsh first impression, she gently welcomes Indou to the school with a kiss on her forehead when the two are alone, leaving Indou speechless. As Indou navigates her new life in the academy, she struggles to make sense of Kagami's sudden change in behavior. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
I think this is most likely one of the most underrated Yuri manga I've read. it's pretty good would recommend it. Its characters a silly and cute and you fall in love with them and are pulled into the story, their feelings become your feelings and you find yourself subconsciously cheering them on and I think that's the stamp of great characters with careful development. The story progresses smoothly never feeling sluggish at parts, it always has something going on but it flows in a way it feels natural, not forced or overwhelming. Being able to get the reader to lose themself into your artand your writing is an incredibly hard thing to accomplish but I think this manga does it perfectly! if you Like cute yuri romance this is a perfect read and I highly recommend it.
First yuri manga, read it for it's military aesthetic, stayed for its story and romance. Story: Well the story of Koushin Koinu ni Koibumi wo is more than just yuri, it showcases the idea of having someone as an inspiration, being motivated by that someone to do better and someday becoming a person that can watch over them or be with them till the end of the world. It's really cute how we get to see Indou slowly develop herself each chapter and how her development also affects the people around her. Art: The art itself is really good, a lot of cute characters, and a lot of funnyIndou faces as well. Scenes are drawn pretty well along with the expressions of the characters that really makes this manga worth reading. Characters: Indou is adorable, each of her scenes are fun to read, it kind of makes you think that the author had fun drawing her. Kagami is also really good as she gives off that cool type of a person, plus she has a cute side as well. The rest of the cast, though relatively short, are also memorable as some of them have persons they also care for and what helps motivate them into becoming a better person. Enjoyment: The manga itself is a fun one, it's a take on the yuri genre with a military theme. The scenes are drawn with love and is enjoyable, the yuri on this manga is somewhat tame, and is understandable given that its theme follows around military principles and rules. I like it though, it's short and sweet. Overall, if you want a nice yuri manga with girls dressed in military uniforms, then this is your manga. Underrated, worth calling it a hidden gem.
A Love Letter for the Marching Puppy is a very sweet read for fans of yuri and/or the military. The manga takes place in feudal Japan and stars a small cast of girls who are training at a military school, the girls are all very different in personality and age. The art is beautiful and the story is well written, however, the story is simple and easy to grasp so if you are looking for something progressive that breaks tropes this isn't it. A Love Letter for the Marching Puppy uses some fairly common tropes of both yuri and the general romance genre, however, despite usingsome commonly seen tropes they work in favor of the story because it isn't long enough for any particular thing to become grating. It's fairly short, only taking me a couple of hours to read over a month or so. However, despite being short the pacing is good, not perfect but good. The cast are all compelling in their own ways but the manga focuses mainly on Indou and Kagami, their relationship and the hardships they face individually. If you are looking for a short and sweet read with a simple and easy to grasp plot but one that still has depth and well written characters behind it then this is it. Bonus if you like the setting and art.
