My review of this will be brief The premise of the manga was very interesting. However, I feel like it should not have been restricted to 6 chapters. The story felt very undeveloped and rushed at some parts, due to its short length. If there were more chapters, I feel like the underlying story would have been more fleshed out, and worth the read. However, the story itself was a very unique and interesting story, and the main two characters are unique, though they lack depth. Therefore, I am giving a generous 5 overall, due to the fact that the story itself was a good plot, but was not executed as well as it could have been
Let me just start this by saying I decided to make this account purely because I wanted to give this a review, since there's only one so far :) Let me also say I had pretty low expectations and didn't really know what to expect from this manga and got it on a bit of a whim. I also won't spoil anything in this review! Briefly put, I couldn't have been more surprised at how good this actually was. Considering the fact that it is a standalone manga with only six chapters, I felt that the story was done very well. The plot was what drewme to it and it was overall quite interesting but a tad bit predictable. As for the characters, I'd say they were pretty good overall, though there wasn't a whole lot of character development, which is to be kind of expected for a story of this length. Still though, the small amount that there was, was satisfying and better than I expected. The one thing I want to say about the art is that I absolutely loved how Yamada's eyes were drawn throughout the manga. It was perfect for his character and really added to his personality. Also, yeah, it is indeed a yaoi so uhhh yeah be prepared for that if you read it, however it's not toooo heavy of a focus until the end. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this manga for its mix of horror and yaoi and would formally give it a 7.5/10 but round it up to an 8 for the MAL rating system :)
An innocent boy being strangled to death by the person he was fond of—this is the nightmare that haunts Terumichi Hoshino. Lately, Hoshino has been having this recurring dream, and the next time he comes to school, events akin to his visions unravel in front of his own eyes. These occurrences begin when Hoshino's life intertwines with the charming and enigmatic Omihiko Yamada. Their feelings are completely mutual, and their relationship as classmates quickly transforms into an intimate one. When they are about to make out, a stranger lunges at Yamada with killing intent and slaughters him without remorse. Horrified by the horrendous sight, Hoshino attempts to save his slain lover, only to witness Yamada rise from the dead. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Did I just make an account to rate this manga? Yes, Yes I am Unfortunately, despite me giving a 10(Masterpiece) , which by all means, Syundei and this story totally deserves it. It gives 6 chapters makes there some things that can and should have been explored more. However, I can understand why Syundei didn't do it as they have other projects as well. Only having 6 chapters itself didn't hinder the story theme for me, but it did leave me wanting more (only that and that is my own personal feelings) After all, I will recommend this to everyone who likes Dark Theme Yaoi Manga.
Gesshoku Kitan, despite its interesting premise, fails to deliver a truly captivating story due to its horrific pacing. It is a delight to see unconventional, and dark and gritty BL stories and it is a shame that Gesshoku Kitan did not have the time to develop its mystery and characters. The characters are all rushed to fulfil their roles, leaving no room for the reader to get to know them. Since it is difficult to connect with the characters, the climactic scenes (which are primarily focused on the characters) feel flatter than they should be. The mystery can hardly be called a mystery simply because, again, the plot moves by too fast. It is nearly impossible to feel suspense or curiosity. Despite this, the premise offered is extremely interesting (precisely why the delivery was so disappointing to me). It is definitely not for everyone. The themes and relationship dynamics explored are grim. However, Gesshoku Kitan does serve a niche and if a dark BL 'mystery' sounds like something you'd enjoy, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't read it.
Good, but can be better. We only have 6 chapters, so the author couldn't develop more about the characters and the plot. The story could be better explored, but overall it's quite good if you want to read a BL series that has a plot and isn't too long. I also like the quote at the end " When people aren't afraid to die, what will happen to them?" showing that this story can offer some certain kind of philosophy. This is not for light-hearted people can't handle dark and horror, however horror is my cup of tea. The reason why I gave this 10stars beacuse it gives out the unique vibe compared to most of BL manga, especially that character "Yamada Omihiko" , his black eyes like a drakness river, always wanted to tell us that there is something wrong with him. I like the aura he give off, umm kinda like...Tomie? and it's rare to see a type of character like this in a BL, that's why I like it.
