An overall solid school SoL romance with hints of drama. Plot and artstyle kinda reminds me of the 2010s era shonen romance, but kinda modernized in terms of artwork. Story is about a very outgoing boy and a girl who has quite the opposite personality who are connected by a red string of fate only the girl can see. Side characters are entertaining but nothing special. Although SoL, the story does have a plot, and has one of those classic 2010 romance type backstory drama near the end. Artwork has simplicity to it yet is very suited to the story. It does noticeably have a different art than other modernromance though. Nothing special, but good to read to pass time. 6.9/10
Akairo Kousaten is a lighthearted school-life romance about timid but friendly high schooler Keita, trying to become better friends with his classmate Tamaki who has always been cold to him ever since they met on the first day of school. When Tamaki confesses that she can see the "red string of fate" and that the reason she tries to avoid is because he is her partner, Keita pledges they will always be "just friends." This was a simply fun romcom slice of life with a gimmick. The characters are fun and chill yet flat, and the story is as simple as any high school slice of life should be. Both the characters and story are simple, which I think is okay. Makita is the golden retriever guy, and Oohara is the moody black cat girl. This is a story of fighting fate while enjoying the 2nd year of high school. The only thing that brings any uniqueness to this 2000s-esque romcom is the idea of red threads being real. Simple isn't bad, but some people want more than that. Luckily, that isn't me. I only have one real issue with the series... and that's its ending. It just kind of... stops? Most series--even the axed ones--would have at least one or two more chapters following up. It felt like the starting line, but it was the finish instead. 7/10 I do recommend this series. It doesn't really mess up horrifically, but it doesn't bring anything too interesting or fresh either. It is a nice comfy series with no real twists, making it comparable to a comfort food. Small smiles and fluffiness abound, which I think everyone needs from time to time.
