Starts strong, but after the first third, the story gets weaker and weaker. It feels like the author spent all time and energy on this great concept, but later has no idea what to do with it. The best part of this manga are the main characters. Oogami Meiko is a sexually curious teenager with lots of imagination. This makes her feel extremely awkward and she ends up feeling severe guilt and shame. This alone could have carried this manga. It is hard to find such interesting characters with such depth. Unfortunately, later in the story the focus of the story steers away from her andgoes into typical romantic tropes, like rivals and other obstacles in the relationship. Shinichirou Yaginuma is a handsome classmate of Oogami who has the strange ability of making people reveal their inner thoughts if he touches them. This forces him to distance himself from everyone. Due to this lack of contact and relationships, he ends up becoming cold and being socially naive. The initial relationship of this odd couple is the best part of the manga. How they overcome their fears and loneliness as they get closer to each other. It is really unfortunate that after such a beautiful initial burst, the story just keeps losing its momentum until it just stops. The final volume feels like a handful of lazy tropes thrown into the plot. A forgettable ending after such a remarkable intro.
Fantasies run wild as thirsty high school girl Ogami-san must learn to keep her thoughtsâand handsâto herself, in this raunchy coming-of-age romcom with a bizarre, blabbermouth twist! Ogami-san has been keeping a dirty little secret from her peers at schoolâpuberty has emptied her mind of everything but perverted fantasies! For the sake of leading an ordinary school life, she pulls out all the stops to keep her mental wild side under wraps. But when she literally reaches a hand out to Yaginuma-kun, a cute but mysterious boy in her class, her innermost thoughts just come spilling out! All she wants is to get to know him (and his body) better, but she can't do that without the risk of exposing her true self. What's a girl to do?! (Source: Kodansha USA)
This manga had a really great premise, but a few chapters in it started to become a generic, forgettable cheap manga that was clearly still going on even if the author had lost interest in working properly on it. The two main characters might seem cliché, but they in some sense bring realism to their archetypes. Oogami is the classical lonely outcast but she's also seeing having the pervert thoughts every teenager has, this is a very brave choice that reflects how really teenagers are and it's not often seen in mangas. Yaginuma is the quiet and apparently emotionless guy, but in this case the reasonfor it is that his condition has deeply traumatized him to the point that he can't enjoy life as a normal person. The supernatural aspect is treated in an interesting way as it serves both as a comedic relief and, most importantly, as the main antagonist of the story. Up to chapter 11, when the two characters officially became a couple, the manga was great. The setup and the conditions of the protagonists were enough to provide a source of troubles that they had to overcome. I was happy that they became a couple so early, so that the story could have focused more on the struggles of the relationship between a perverted girl and a guy with an annoying ability. What the story became after that, instead, is a perpetuous cycle of unrealistic and poorly written jealousy plot that would be considered bad even for soap operas standards, an incredibly high number of cockblocking scenes and an involution of the characters in terms of maturity. The characters seem to forget the past, they talk about wanting to grow up and learn about life but they still make the same mistakes over and over which, of course, is something realistic, but it doesn't mean it's something work of being the plot of a story. The ending is simply bad. It's not well though, it looks like something written in a rush just to end the series and follows no logic whatsoever. I really don't recommend you to read this manga because it's so good at the beginning that it will only leave you a sense of anger when you finish it. If ever, read up until chapter 11, then stop.
I started reading this and was completely hooked throughout the most of it. The characters were all relatable and the story is hilarious yet sweet. I really, really liked how this manga was going.... that is up until the last couple of chapters. To me it seemed like the end was not thought out accordingly and was rushed. This was really sad because I loved the beginning of the story so much and the art style is adorable. I wish the end could have been written better. It sucks that such a funny and enjoyable manga lost it's touch in the end, leaving all ofus with wanting more. So even if I liked the art and characters, I would rate this manga a 7 just because the ending was not satisfactory.
This manga is much better at the U-turn than professional drivers. How very promising it was before running out of steam and becoming every other love comedy's likeness. Apart from the main quartet, the characters range from meaningless to actually hideous. I have a particular problem with one of the characters that shows up and disappears later on; I would believe you on the spot if you told me the editor was blackmailed to allow him in. Throughout the entire thing, there was exactly one (1) side character that I enjoyedâthat sister of Yaginuma's; but the rest have no reason for existing. Not only do they not improve the story in any way, but they accomplish nothing, they try nothing, they *think* nothing. Sure, they may not directly make the manga worse, but they leech panels and dialogue from the main characters, whom not only did I enjoy much more but was also legitimately interested in. Overall, I would never call it bad, but it really is not very enjoyable to finish, either.
