It's smutty, violent, and pretty much pointless. But I liked it. Don't read this manga expecting to see some romantic couple overcoming the odds in a tricky situation. The semes are assholes and the ukes are idiots, it's as simple as that. And that's even with two completely unconnected stories making up Bi no Isu. Different plots, but the cruelness remains in both. But here are some things that are good about it: -Men who look like men, albeit not macho men, in the first half. Some even have facial hair and tattoos. -Really hot interactions between characters, if you're okay with rough sex. -First yaoi I've read thatopened with a yakuza (Japanese mafia) torture scene. Certainly caught my attention. -Interesting character dynamics, in that they're completely screwy. How will the semes next abuse their partners? Will they both survive it? How much blood and/or screaming will ensue? And why are the ukes so hopelessly in love? If there was actual plot outside of the relationships, I missed it. The second story (chapters 4 & 5) wasn't as good as the first, in my opinion. Too much psychological trauma involved. But if you like watching messed up relationships with lots of sex and abuse, this might suit you well.
Anthology of five one shots. 1. Bi no Isu Kabu and Nirasawa have a troubled relationship, to say the least. Harsh yakuza lifestyle, torture, and violent sex are everyday occurrences for the volatile couple. 2-3. Anya no Tsubute Sequel to Bi no Isu 4. Tokage to Chutsugai Emiri is impotent, thanks to his trauma of being molested by his childhood friend, Fuyu. Years later, Emiri is finally seeking treatment for his condition, but why is Fuyu wearing that white coat?! And why is the nurse's skirt so short? 5. Seiritsu Shinai Asa What will happen years later when senpai and kouhai meet again? Is loving someone that frightening? (Source: MU)
It's pretty much what you would expect from a generally generic yaoi manga circa 2000s era. Pretty boys with long faces, toxic relationships that are framed as fluff and over dramatic characters with a severe case of annoying bitch syndrome. It's not necessarily bad? But it's also not very good. All of the characters are just so meh, both personality and looks wise. The only ones I found attractive were Kabu and Emiri, sadly they were paired up with characters I could give less of a shit about. Nirasawa has absolutely nothing going on beyond loving Kabu, not even in a yandere way, he just has no otherpersonality trait besides loving Kabu. It would've been neat to see things from his perspective or show more things other than just him trying to sacrifice himself or get Kabu's attention. Fuyu is boring, he has the same problem as Nirasawa where he's not interesting as a character nor attractive enough for me to forgive it. His only character traits would be that he's somewhat sadistic and loves Emiri. The third story is...Alright? Definitly the most boring one. "Alright that's the plot out of the way, how's the porn part?" It's what kept me reading at the very least, one thing I love about older BL manga is how the artists draw the erotica scene in such a shy and cute way while also managing to be degenerate. It can sometimes make me forgive the dumbest of plots filled with the most annoying of characters. Sometimes. Had it not been for the very neat sex scenes I would've dropped it however. Would not reccomend unless you like the art style, but even then you should keep your expectations low.
