I was browsing through romance manga to read when I suddenly noticed Saotome Senshu, Hitakakusu. At first glance it looked like a hentai and I thought of skipping it, but then decided to take a look and binge read the whole thing one night. I was not disappointed. Saotome is not your average romance heroine. She is tall for a school girl, athletic, shy and has a physique which even I don't have after hitting the gym for 4 years lol. She is also a boxer and a really good one at that too. Also, she's beautiful. Not the shojo romance kind, but beautiful yeah. Satoru isnot your average romance MC too. He is short, weak, not at all like a hero and loves boxing. Though he has been a boxer for years, he sucks at it big time. What happens when one fine day, Saotome proposes to Satoru and their love story begins? A lot. There's a hell lot of cute moments, a nice amount of comedy and a bit of the sports stuff thrown in here and there. Overall it's an exciting package and is worth a binge read. There's absolutely no drama(thank God!) and none of those irritating love triangle BS. Just a plain cute romance story with really good characters that you will love to read. And oh, the mangaka sure knows how to draw beautiful women. If only some of them girls were in my gym... Overall, Saotome Senshu, Hitakakusu is a great romance manga and it deserves to get animated. As a romance manga lover, I would absolutely recommend this.
Satoru Tsukishima has just been confessed to by fellow high school boxing club member Yae Saotome, who is currently the Kanto region's Female Featherweight Champion. Overjoyed at first, Satoru isn't able to accept her feelings as he believes that she should be focusing on boxing instead. Yae's championship will soon be on the line, and the entire school is counting on her to someday represent Tokyo in the Olympics. It also doesn't help that he's nowhere near as skilled as she is, conflicted by the thought of a rising star being in a relationship with someone as average as him. But when their coach finds out about the confession, Satoru is assigned as Yae's trainer so the two can secretly date and spend more time together while also engaging in club activities. However, if anyone finds out about the two, it will mean the end of their relationship. With this in mind, their pure and awkward romance begins! [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Saotome is a very interesting read that won't let you down with some buff girls, cute guys, and a pretty vanilla romance which is kind of rare in a sports manga centered around girls. If you want to have a feel-good-3-to-4-days-of-reading, you can read this pretty quick since most chapters aren't that long! Pacing for the story was nice. Most characters had their time to shine and the story didn't seem to slow down too much, which I only felt did at times. Perhaps it was also a bit rushed at the end. 7/10 The art was the lowest point of this one. It's gotits good moments here and there, and the fighting scenes are engaging, but from a character design POV and general sense it's just ok, pushing the line of being kinda bland. 5/10 The characters themselves are all unique and interesting to see evolve and interact with each other, and I have no complaints other than some (I think) underdeveloped side characters and some good-for-nothing antagonists that are there just to slow down the story. 8/10 It's just a pure and heartwarming, entertaining series to binge in a few days. Or two if you've got nothing to do. 9/10 Overall: 7/10
Besides girl abs being hot, this was a super wholesome experience, I loved every chapter of it. I loved every fight sequence, every romance bit, every comedy bit, everything. The artstyle is pretty cute and conveys a lot of emotion. My heart is completely melted like butter in a broiler and I wish there was more of this manga, I would read Saotome Senshu forever. 10/10 You would do yourself a favor reading this. This manga made my week, and its one of my favourites now, I'm probably going to try and buy physical copies of every chapter of this one!!! I had a great time. I don't get it. I don't get the hype. It has a bland story. Almost no romance. No comedy. A little more about it. The story is meh, at best. I'm not saying you can't enjoy it, I'm saying it is meh. Bland. There is something that seems like the start of some plot elements, but in the end its light, bland, meh. Some forced drama, but still light. Next, no romance. Some cutely scenes, but thats it. You can't say that makes it a romance. Imagine a 2-hours war movie with 5 minutes of some people hugging and calling it a romance. Yes, thelast chapters make you happy/giddy/whatever, but still it can't be called romance. No comedy. Some funny moments, some comedic actions, but thats no comedy. The art style is ok, I guess. Nice designs, the action scenes are good. And thats about it. A little bit too long, meh story. Yes, you might get a little excited along the way (mostly towards the end chapters), but still not enough to understand the hype. I guess people are still confusing "I like" with "good media". You can also like bad media (manga), there's nothing wrong with that, but do know the difference. I'll go with "mixed feelings" and a (barely) 5 rating, just for the sake of it. I mean, its not bad, but I wouldn't recommend it either. Its almost like a waste of time. You can read it to pass time, or just to read stuff. Or maybe for the art? Have a lovely evening.
Great manga. At first the couple seemed to have no chemistry at all, but little by little their relationship evolves to the point where you really like them together. The cast of secondary characters are really fun too, in addition to being a boxing manga we still have some great rivals. Art is okay most of the time, but when the manga focuses on boxing fights it is very good. The author is great at showing a scene of a sequence of strong or fast punches, the fights are really exciting. A negative point is that there are many chapters that are random. In general they are fun separate, but in the story as a whole they make the plot more tired. Another negative point for the work is in relation to its hurried end. this left secondary characters with the plot open. Besides the fact that it is still a sports manga (despite being 60% romance and 40% boxing) then it is a pity that the ending is no longer grand in relation to boxing, but only to romance. Anyway, it's not a perfect manga, but the characters are very charismatic and fun. Besides that the romance ends very closed and the fights are excellent and exciting.
