A surprisingly sweet experience. Maeda frets over his appearance constantly, believing he's plain and ugly - and he only has one thing going for him.. his fashion sense! When he falls in love with his co-worker, Yagii, who, in Maeda's eyes, is way out of his league, he sees no hope in having a chance with someone as beautiful and cool as him. So when Yagii kisses him after Maeda asks, what is he supposed to think?! Okay, by now, you're surely thinking: "MAL user, this sounds like almost every other BL ever." And you would be right. The story is nothing special. But that doesn't meanit's not good. Ame to Kiss does a great job with making the most of basic. In a genre that's filled with morally ambiguous decisions, overbearing characters, and scenarios that sound like one of those "that definitely happened" Tumblr posts, THIS manga is a breath of fresh air. While Maeda and Yagii are rather simple characters in their own sense, they're done right. Maeda is someone who's unconfident in his appearance. That's realistic, right? But somehow, in this genre, characters like these always end up obnoxious. And so do their counterparts, who end up only thinking of themselves. But Yagii doesn't do this. Instead of that, when Maeda's anxieties cause an issue between the two of them, Yagii takes into account how both Maeda feels and the negative effects it has on him, their trust, and their relationship. While this doesn't entirely fix Maeda and the nervousness he has surrounding his appearance, it surely boosts his confidence and leads in a positive direction, which is charmingly realistic. Now for the art. While some people may not agree with me, I thought the art was rather pleasant and nice on the eye. The characters were lanky and free - the style made me feel at ease. Also, even though this manga is tagged as shounen-ai, there is sex in it. But it isn't explicit. It's nothing more than tangled limbs, loving eyes, and toes digging into the sheets. I'm always overjoyed when the author can find a way to allude to something erotic, rather than showing it directly. Not only is it something that can be done artistically, but it shows that the story is more than just sex. All in all, if you're looking for a quick read of some wholesome gays with pretty art, give Ame to Kiss a go. Because I'm sure as hell glad that I did.
Ever since he was a child, Maeda Taiki looked plain and shabby, and has never been popular. For these reasons, he wanted to at least have a good sense of fashion as an adult. So before he knew it, he became a shop attendant at a fashion mall. He has now found someone that he likes…. an employee at the fashion mall's main department, Yagii Haruhisa. Not only is Yagii kind and handsome, he's friendly with everyone he meets. He's someone that Maeda simply can't help but admire. However, Maeda is aware that he doesn't stand a chance of loving someone like Yagii… That is, until an awkward question from Maeda causes Yagii to steal his first kiss?! (Source: MU)
I feel you, Maeda-kun, because we all have insecurities and flaws, it's just that you felt it too deeply that you lacked confidence and trust on your self. It did make me so emotional that I kept holding myself back from crying because this one was really beautiful and heartwarming. I like to think that there is a Yagii-san to our Maeda-kun, and that it will remind us that when we look down on ourselves we hurt the people who love and care for us unconditionally. Now that I think about it, doesn't it just read like a fairytale? There are sparks and flowers andbutterflies every time we get to see them both express their love for each other it make us cry happy tears. Also, I love how subtle and simple the art is yet it feels striking. I love it so so so much!
wow omg i've never read such a manga with so poor art like this manga is a massive knee slapper there were so many scenes that i just laughed at from how ridiculous they were only because the art was so pitiful and stupid i loved it but it still has big bad points story:5 egh unbelievable is the best word to describe the story like i find it very unlikely (spoiler but why should you care when its this obvious) that this man that wheres a suit to work(but he works at a shopping center or something???) would like such a bland "cute"(no.) boy and thenalso ughhhh the whole fact this suit man literally asked this girl who has no contact with the bland boy where he was all the time is so god damn bad(the whole point of this being in the plot is so the dull oby gets the wrong impression) if he were to ask someone he'd ask the bland boys coworker and this just shows how badly written this is, honestly i could point out so many scenes that were just sooo bad and critique then but my hands are hurting from being this angry since i'm tensing them. the only good part was the way they talked about sex it was much more believable oh back to the actual "story", they like kiss at a house party since drunk people and then there relationship starts from there but then the suit man is being transferred but is coming back in a few months, it covers long distanced relationships which is actually executed pretty well, there is this one great scene where the dull boys friend takes him to a care and then bangs up on him and then the suit man comes from nowhere and starts to beat up thew friend and the dull boys expression was the best thing in a manga honestly i'd recommend someone read this just so they can see the face in its context anyway then sex scenes yaaaay art:1 BAD, VERY VERY BAD THE EXPRESSIONS WHERE FUNNY character:3 they were just not very good like i dont want to go into too much contect since look how big th story paragragh is this is literally just a one volume yaoi i dont want it too long enjoyment:7 bad art can sometimes be pulled off well i mean have any of you ever seen nyan neko sugar girls thats onw amazing anime overall:4 hmmmm reading/watching badly put together things can be a learning experience but i highly doubt i've learnt anything good from this
