Slice of Life that changes genre. It's been my dream to see something like this. It's a testament to the quality when a series begins in a quiet situation. A world of demons, a clear conflict in the background, but we focus on a mother, Lorem and her child, as they slowly open up to humanity. I've never seen a series which so consistently, and progressively, advances towards the finish line with such finesse. We start at such a calm, cute point, where it's all about how each character reveals a little more about our fmc, who we grow to care about, alongside her friends, family, acquaintances. The world opens up to us, chapter by chapter of perfectly paced comedy, intertwined with world-building. The danger creeps up ever so slowly, and the stakes get higher and higher as Lorem knows more about everything. We get the past when we need to, we get the sad reality at times, and it culminates in a grand finale that feels entirely earned. The characters are EVERYTHING in this series. Everybody has this contrast in themselves; a contradiction to who they are, which allows them to be fresh every time they're on frame. The overly loving mother who's the strongest devil to ever exist, the “cowardly human” who breached the path between the strongest devil and humans to collaborate. The abandoning man being deserving of love because of his situation. It's always a little extra something that spices every personality, and I love the dynamics of every episode. I wasn't tired of little Gospel, one of the cutest characters ever, playing on the sand, and discovering how to do a sand castle. I was enthralled by the incredibly scaled fight scenes. Likewise, I wanted to know the positive outcome of every fight. The author connects you, and allows you to breathe with them. We enjoy the happy times, just as much as they do, and it melts my heart to just see Gospel, and his mother being incredibly proud at the most normal moments of life. The fights aren't the important thing, it's the smile that comes from those who survive it for the good of the world. I don't have many complaints. It's a profoundly cute story, that isn't trying to wallow in the misery, but to find the good in the horrors of life. However, it sometimes devolves into big titty fan-service which sometimes intruded in the more serious moments. Fights scenes are pretty good, except when the panel doesn't display enough detail to understand what's actually happening. BUT, that's just sometimes. In general, this is a great story, with a great cast, the cutest designs, heart-melting life-lessons, and good fight scenes. 9.3/10. You don't always find this kind of gem in the slice of life genre.
Cute manga about a demon turned new mother.
A slow burn supernatural slice of life? A concept not unheard of, but stays uncommon. First time I started reading I did not know what to expect. I mean I only knew the mangaka's work from voice overs made by amateur youtubers. And now here I am, stating with confidence that this manga is far far better than it has any right to be. Well, it may not seems "professional" at first glance. However, as the saying goes, there is more to a book than its cover. The art is quite simple. Little emphasis on the background, no crazy shading or line work. Onlyexception being when a few characters get into an amped state. in those occasions the art gets unusually detailed. Nevertheless, Zyugoya's main strength as an artist lies in style rather than detail. This signature art style is one of the most charming and recognizable I've seen in a long time. The story is very interesting. It is, as I said a slow burn supernatural slice of life. But, unlike most works that consistently follow one or a few plot lines, this one instead is a collection of short stories whom building upon each other in a chronological order. Sometimes it's just refreshing to see something that goes against the grain. Another surprise for me were the characters. They feel like real individuals with multiple personality traits and individual outlook on the world which further develops as they face and overcome the many challenges life throws at them. Since this manga is being such a slow burn, it leaves plenty of time to show in detail these challenges and how it affects the characters. Which in result makes it really authentic. Although I have a minor criticism. After the first 100 or so chapters, the genre is shifted towards a battle shounen with a clearly defined plot line. This in on itself is not a bad thing. In fact, even as a battle shounen this work stand its ground. However, those little, more personal moments where the characters helped each other weather through their worse moments, that the previous genre allowed. Were exchanged for a flashier larger scale conflict. Don't get me wrong the character writing is still chef's kiss, it is just that now it have to skid over those little nuances. Which I don't think woth the trade off.
A long journey huh? 202 chapters, 9 volumes of a demon mother life. Every chapter shows daily life of happiness, sadness, flashback, intense and peace of a demon. This greatly shows how a poorly troublesome life she had before but want to change herself at the birth of her child. I was immersed fully into the story settings. I'm quite surprised how good is the story. The plot is the main interest in this manga. The flow of the story kept rising and fall in different chapters. The rising tide of the demon nation craves power while human wants human-demon reconciliation (two side peace andlive together). Many antagonist rise to defend their demons race. I realized most of the antagonist aren't blood-thirsty cruel demons, but rather a leader who want the freedom of demons race. It's a pleasant story actually, you might get the hang of it but it's quite confusing. Characters also have each of their own special traits. She is surrounded with many friends and companions made along the way. Friends is the important thing in this story. This manga shows how a simple surrounding can change a person totally. She is freshly changed into a good mother with loving son, families and friends. I am jealous how the son is able to grow in such good place. As my last two reviews of the same author manga, the ART is still the same as usual, lewd as always. Impressive some characters can grow such huge badonkers LOL. After the reading, i am absolutely jealous how the son is constantly surrounded by huge boonkas sisters. IT SHOULD BEEN MEEE... Last, i will give this manga a solid 10/10, such impressive manga! I had say goodbye to this peak! I hope they adapt this into anime. Thank you for reading this review :). HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO READ!!!!!
