"This party doesn't need an incompetent magician who can only use supportive magic. You're fired, Alec Ygret." Suddenly, Alec, a court magician who had joined the crown prince's party to help him conquer dungeons—was banished from the party. And not just the party, but the crown prince's harassment has banished him from the royal palace as well, and a friend from the "magic academy" approached Alec, who was at his wit's end. "Hey, Alec. Do you want to try to conquer the dungeon with us again?" And so, together with the friends he used to party with, Alec begins his second journey in life. This is the adventure story of a former court magician who had been abandoned. Four years ago, the "Lasting Period," a party of four that had been called "legendary," has gradually spread its name around the world. (Source: Kodansha, translated)

Story This is a very generic anime where, once again, the main character gets kicked out of his group, but it doesn't really matter because he is the best anyway. The show is so unmemorable that I barely remember what happened just a few episodes ago. There is no complex story, no meaningful world-building, and no interesting characters to speak of. If you have already watched a few of those "I got kicked from the party but I am actually ultra OP" shows, you are basically just watching a re-run with different names. Visuals The visuals are as generic as the story. The art style, effects, and animationare mediocre with a very average amount of detail. It felt like the creators tried to do something slightly less common with the spell designs, but they clearly didn't want to take any real risks. Because of that, the final look just ended up being mid as well. Conclusion If you have never watched an anime with the "I got kicked from the party" trope, you might give this a try. Otherwise, I strongly recommend avoiding it. There are no real changes or unique twists compared to other titles in this genre, making it a very shallow experience.

Banished Court Magician, henceforth BCM, is a fairly standard betrayed MC power fantasy. The story follows Alec and his party of three other prodigies; after Alec is betrayed and fired by the prince of a foreign kingdom, he rejoins his party, and the quartet go on various adventures together primarily in dungeons. Alec is a fairly generic MC who goes through all the same steps that most others in this subgenre go through. He lacks self-esteem despite being absurdly strong and is kind of a wet blanket who lacks strong motivations for the first half of the season. The lore and story definitely pick up inthe latter half, and the characters other than Alec are all pretty enjoyable, but not much about the series really helps it stand out from the crowd. BCM has a pretty standard magic system, and while its fights do include some decent strategies, the choreography involved isn't anything to write home about. Similarly, the series consistently looks good, but I can't think of any real stand-out moments of animation. Its strongest point is definitely the emotional moments near the end. Overall, BCM is not a bad show by any means, but it doesn't particularly excel at much either. It's a pretty standard but enjoyable experience. I'll probably watch season 2 if/when it comes out, but I don't feel compelled to pick up the light novel. Verdict: 7/10
This went in a different direction than advertised. From the title my first thought was this is the now generic MC got kicked out of a party only to realize he was the one carrying them all along and those bullies in middle school just didn't appreciate how super awesome special he was. So... it did start like that. Only instead of a middle schooler it's more a salaryman working in a black company where he has to bear the weight of every little thing and none of the benefits. He then moves on to a normal company where his coworkers are far more supportiveand the psychological tactics used to break you down and bully you in a negative work environment aren't used (but he's still healing so is low-key expecting them.) Just imagine that disguised under a paper thin fantasy layer and you have this show. Had this show been honest and went with the base premise it would have done far better. The fact is the fantasy elements are used to disguise it and as such the show has no foundations. No rules, limitations or world building. Just a "oh by the way" exposition vomit every now and then when the plot needs something... usually applies for the next episode or two only and forgotten afterwards. Because this is an allegory for a very specific situation with a lot of tropes from the genre just hastily thrown together in order to tell said story. Even the 2nd villain made no sense other than a plot device to achieve the the moral of the tale "Supportive coworkers = good"... and friendship is magic??? Plot is lame, world building none existent. Characters are very "oh by the way" so nothing solid, they are there to support MC-kun and that's it. MC-kun is bland, lacks any motivation, drive or personality. AKA pretty boring. The story is always about something happening to him instead of because of him. Very passive. Art and animation passable though they did cheap out on the later half of the show. Overall: It focused too much on the allegory part and forgot it was a fantasy show. That to impress someone with your MC being super special you need to show the baseline for comparison first. At first i didn't think it was a bad show but the lack of proper world building or story kept getting worse and worse adding to the show's problems. Also I'm removing a star for the name of the group, Lasting Period. It just made me think of never ending stomach cramps. What a stupid name!
There are some things about this show that are good, especially in the first few episodes. However the second half of the show is a terrible slog with extremely generic enemies, an over emphasis on magic battles that include very little magic, and weird power-scaling. The worst part is the final villain, who has so many plotholes in his backstory that could have been answered simply with a candid conversation. None of the latter half of the story made any sense from an actual practical standpoint, the antagonist acted irrationally to even get there in the first place, and the needless antagonism doesn't make anysense in terms of counteraction nor trauma. HIs actions during this part of the story is overwritten by his past, and we are expected to sort of forgive him. But his current actions make no sense if they were motivated by his past. It doesn't work. The rest of the story is extremely generic fantasy OP power slop. The first half is him taking the high road, and the second half is him being completely disconnected from the namesake of the series. I doubt any more of this show would even bother to recall that he was a banished court mage, aside from giving him opportunities to reminisce. That part of his life is so far behind him at this point that it doesn't even really serve any important aspect of his personality anymore. If it does come back, it'll be them arriving home to a royal summons or something. That's just a prediction, but judging by how little it mattered later on, it really doesn't make sense why it was such an important motif they had to put it in the name. Doubtful that this would get a second season, but if it does they're either going to double down on it in a really obvious and irritating manner, or it will still be something that is so sparse or forgotten about as to draw into further question why the title is what it is. I get that hyper-specific naming trends in this genre of anime are increasingly popular as niche LN adaptations get pushed to market, but if this is some sort of standalone product, it really feels like the writer just kinda, forgot what the premise of the story was, and it turned into a generic fantasy story. There's some attempt at setup for future seasons at the end. More intrigue about cores and an opportunity for them to get one. But ultimately almost everything that could've been interesting feels missing. Asspull powers are credited to his genius, when most of the time its talent. His genius is never really shown to us in effect, only the start one time and the consequence of his diligence. Even having a single scene where we witness him struggle to and then figure out some advanced magic would have done wonders for the believability of how amazing he is supposed to be. Instead, the story chooses to tell, not show, and just remind us all the time that he's special by having characters tell us as much. Amazing that a medium where the designers get to draw exactly what they want on screen, and they still manage to waste time telling us exposition with words instead of showing us anything of the sort. We are expected to go on notion, but if that's the case then why even bother watching a television show? This feels like watching a light novel in the worst possible way, not even like watching a manga. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but it does in my mind. In terms of a power fantasy, it's meh. In terms of a story of any kind, it's a failure. I don't think I will ever even think about this show again, and if I do it'll probably be some sort of positive comparison with another show. I'm being charitable and giving it a 3 only because I put DNA^2 at 2 and that was a godawful experience. This tickled a scratch of "I should watch all the fantasy / Isekai shows" but ultimately only irritated me, and now I know I never have to watch it again. I don't recommend this show to anyone.
I dont write many reviews but for this i have to. I can enjoy anime with bad animation or slightly boring characters if the story is OK. However, this is trash.... really. The animation is Okayish. The MC for 4 episodes is battling with self confidence even though everyone is cheering on him. The side characters do not have any development. However the main issue i have is with the story. It is very slow pacing with multiple flashbacks (which are boring). From episode 6 I had the show on second monitor while i browsed internet or played games. The last two episodes whichat this time did not have eng dub i just flashed through. Honestly i could not be invested in the characters and the story.
