" Digital Ghost Hunters " Usually we expect to see fancy dressing sense with rare sealed cursed equipment and a dark gloomy atmosphere in anime based on exorcism and ghost hunting . Dead is a pretty good concept of having a power system which is based on on mobile phone batteries even ghosts are digital . They have accounts online the more people follow it the more strong they become . It gives you a little bit of JJk vibe because of academy setting and a quota of exorcising evil spirits but it's a not deep as JJk it's just a simple shonen which can beenjoyed easily . Character designs aren't much special , decent VA , fire op song and some cool fighting sequences . I liked backstories too . I don't know much about Og source but yeah it's enjoyable pretty much . I won't mind another season but they should make long shonen , 12 epos aren't enough to analyze anime perfectly .

how much of the good features of jjk can you cut away before you make a show unwatchable? a lot apparently. this show draws from jjk heavily, from the relatively constrained set of abilities characters can have, to the intentionally shitty personalities of most cast members, and to the overall tone of the creatures they face. while not nailing the landing, the show starts fairly compelling with the leadup to souji joining the academy, if you watched just that part, you might be compelled to give the show an 8, but it doesn't hold that momentum for long. the quick bites you need to know tounderstand the show, which is fairly dark despite the art style implying otherwise, is that there's an upheavel in spirit sorcerery, and new generations of spirits are using digital forms that require digital techniques to fight. our boy souji, a nuisance streamer who works to take care of his sister, gets caught up into the world of sorcery by accident, having drawn attention from the main villain of the show and is given a power others fear as inherintly evil and is taken in by the strongest to go to a school of other people who draw power from their shitty personalities. some similarities should be made pretty aware by now. functionally this show is the first season of jjk, in 12 episodes. but lets not make more comparisons, lets go over what we get done in this season. after proving himself to the principal that he had the necessary grit to be a sorcerer, he and his classmates get assigned to the curses in a building, but the curses are stronger than expected, and they almost die. after that they conduct a practice battle between class A and B, which doesnt go exactly as planned. okay i know what you are thinking. its not that bad. the show does have some of its own charm, but the main issue is its insufficiently deep copying of jjk. the power system so far is spirit energy goes into phone, phenomena manifests, with an advanced version shown later. every sorcerer has a phenomena directly related to their personality, meaning there are duplicates. souji produces fire, as does anyone else who is primarily known for being a rage baiter online. his male classmate weilds a ban hammer, and his female uses clingy gel. its all very charming in practice, but without the underlying generic power system of cursed energy reinforcement, binding vows, and barrier techniques, every character feels extremely weak. all signs indicate that this show is going to be a team sport fighting show, instead of the 'every sorcerer dies alone' sort of show. maybe they hit their stride later, but otherwise this is just a completely average battle shonen that fits so perfectly into its place as a third generation shounen that its almost laughable. (dragonball of course) -> bleach -> jjk -> dead account its a palatable enough watch but it feels like a fusion of black clover and jjk in a very bad way, so im expecting the quality to continue to slump with time. 5/10 + 1 for having a few compelling moments and a compelling episode. for 6/10
Dead Account can be described in one word: Whatever. It's a very OK show. It's not awful, but it can be if you don't like shounen. Especially very bare bones modern shounen. The kind where you can imagine the next scene and it will play out exactly like you thought because you've seen this exact same plot point in like 3 different WSJ legends. Almost every cliche thing in a battle shounen shows up before you're even halfway through the anime. There's a main trio, two male one female. The main guy tends to be hyper energetic and the other guy is more chill but an asshole, the girl's entire personality is just "teenage girl". Every character gets some kinda unique weapon but the main guy has the most special power evar!!!1!! Some sort of secret society that has been protecting humanity from secret monsters. Et cetera, et cetera, The list goes on. There is the occasional sprinkle to make Dead Account kinda stand out, like the social media thing and how modern technology has changed how spirits operate, but as far as this first (maybe only) season goes it isn't actually that important. I was hoping perhaps the characters would be fighting exclusively with phones, because as stupid as that would be it would still be way funnier/interesting than the battle system we actually got. It's just...whatever.
This is a good idea of how to form a world with today's day and age in mind. It covers the normal tropes of vengeance, friendship, getting stronger, loss, etc. The main character is a little thick-headed but is mostly grounded in reality when things are explained to him. The animations are nothing special, I suppose, and it comes off as a typical shounen anime but I liked the idea of integrating new ways to fight spirits as they explain in the anime. We could see more battles and powering up in sequels to come as the anime easily poised itself to do so.
Dead Account is an anime about exorcists defeating ghosts, something that people are more than used to by now. However, the premise already starts off more interesting than the norm by changing how ghosts manifest into our world and how they are supposed to be defeated. It's a fun and creative anime with a well-written main cast of protagonists, even if the other relevant characters don't receive the same treatment. The protagonist feels very realistic, has a believable goal and isn't annoying with his mannerisms and drive. He also doesn't immediately start overpowered and has to learn and catch up with all of his seniors alonghis way to learn how to be an exorcist. All of the powers are interesting as well, not only fitting with the personality of the characters but being relevant online archetypes we're all used to. That's not to say this anime isn't without its flaws. The animation isn't the best, and not all characters are well written. In fact, most of 1B is very shallow, and the class fight arc was carried by us feeling angry with things they did instead of actually being invested in their characters. Still, it's a fun shounen anime for those looking for something nice, and it has enough creative ideas to keep someone entertained for a whole season.
