Toujima Kun wants to be a Kamen Rider is one of the most over the top, action packed and utterly insane experiences Iāve had in recent years. Thanks to my experience with this show, I ended up getting into Kamen Rider and Iāll always be grateful for that. The 6 months that this show aired will always be special as every single episode was a roller coaster ride with laughs, great action and story that felt like a blast from the past. Itās not without its flaws, which Iāll touch on later, but I think if youāre a battle shonen or Toku fan, youāll enjoythis. Iām new to this franchise so I canāt say itās the best Kamen Rider story ever or anything, but I thought it was really good for the most part minus a few hiccups in the final third or so of the show. Ok, so this show is sort of a tale of 3 parts for me. The first half of the show is absolutely amazing. Some of the best fights of the year, Toujima meeting the other riders, learning the truth about shocker, kicking ass, episodes leaving off on cliffhangers that make you want more every week. It was amazing. I will never forget how hype the rider training tournament was. Then we hit a lull in the story after the first cour. Donāt get me wrong, I love Toujima and Ichiyou, but the training arc with them in the countryside dragged on a bit and it felt like we took ages to actually move on to the confrontation with Batman. There was a really good episode or two, but I think a lot of this couldāve been condensed. I definitely can see how the staff thought this was a good opportunity to develop the characters and give them some personality, which was needed for some, but I couldāve done with a few less episodes and more direct confrontation with shocker. Thatās probably more of a criticism with the author himself than the anime staff, though, to be fair. I digress. The last few episodes really got this show back on the road and the last two in particular were awesome. Generally, I LOVE the characters in this series. Itās really cool how this is basically every nerdās dream of growing up and actually becoming the superheroes you idolized as a kid. We all wanted to be power rangers or in this case, Kamen Riders, as kids and while most of us grew out of that, Toujima, Yuriko, Ichiyou and Mitsuba just doubled and tripled down until it became a reality. Theyāre all big ass kids and itās funny as hell. Their chemistry is really good and they do truly feel like a proper found family by the end of the series. Each one brings their own unique ability to the team to help them in the fight against shocker. Itās also nice they all get their own mini arcs to have to confront their insecurities and grow stronger. I do think Toujima as a protagonist is pretty basic, Iāve heard complaints from long time KR fans that this series is as shallow a representation of the franchise as possible and as someone whoās new, I canāt deny that since I donāt have enough of a frame of reference, but I can see where theyād be coming from because the story and characters do feel a bit simple at times. Not the end of the world for me, though. Still more good than bad on that front. Thereās another complaint from long term fans about this series being misogynistic and thatās one thatās a little nuanced. At the start of this series, I thought the female characters were handled very well. Yes, the author clearly sexualized the hell out of the girlsā designs by giving them G cup boobs, the director likes his ass and tits shots, etc.,but Tackle was at least kicking ass and being the strongest in the group. Yukarisu was a valuable asset to the riders and supported Mitsuba. I can live with the weird sexualization as long as thatās not ALL that the women characters have going for them. Then.. after the second cour that went downhill. Tackle got done dirty, Yukarisu becomes a literal punching bag for guys and thereās this weird trend of women just being beat up by guys in the show, not the sort of 1-2 punch and youāre out kinda thing either, like genuinely stomped out and just done dirty. Itās weird. 1 or 2 times I could deal with, but then it became a pattern. Iām not sure if this is because the second half of the show focused on Bat Man whose whole thing is being the embodiment of misogyny or what, but between that and the whole idol gf thing, it got a bit weird to me. Luckily, we got enough hype moments and some character development episodes that let me overlook this. The action in this series is CRAZY. It doesnāt have the sakuga of fellow Saturday seasonal Fate Strange Fake, but I think the fights are some of the best of the season. The sound design, the direction, the intensity to the punches and the way every single fight in here feels like a brutal slugfest is really cool. Tackleās fight in the rider tournament and Toujima v Ichiyou are my faves I think. Despite the story being a little shallow at times, some misogyny and pacing issues, I overall had a lot of fun watching this, it made me watch Shin Kamen Rider and begin to dip my toes into the franchise. Once I found out Sawano did the OP for the latest season, it was a no brainer to tap in. Iāll miss watching this and always remember how hype those first few months were. The true hidden gem ... What do you can do with a good history, good directors and low budget ? Tojima wants be a kamen rider is the answer ! The anime is about Tojima, maybe a delusional character that wants to be Kamen Rider, everyone really thinks he is crazy, but for 40 years he trained everyday for it . But after he gets old, he is on the verge of giving up of his dream. History (10) It“s a wholesome history, Tojima looks like just a delusional character that is finally trying to be normal, but something is about to change. He and other"dilusional" friends start a new adventure to save maybe the world ? Characters (10) I really love almost every character of this one, Tojima with his unbreakble will, Yuriko trying to not end like tackle, Nakao fighint for his friends and love, the 3 Shimamura family and Yukarisu being who they are. All of them are funny, serius, and fucking incredible when fighting. Music (10) The theme music are few, but they are memorable, every time you listen riderrrr riderrrrr you got goosbumps. Animation (7) That“s the weak point of this anime, you can see the low budget of the animation, but using old astetics and animations of the first kamen rider years, they hid pretty well the problem, you will see it only if you pay close attention. Overall (10) A must watch anime,a ton of funny moments, a ton of holy sh** moments but only 24 eps.
One of the better anime of this season (well, both?) and for none of the reasons you might think. There's a whole lot to unpack here, but please, just let me try: Our heroes are just regular day people with a spirit for justice, all because of how important a show about heroes was to them as a kid. Not only that, they all have their reasons WHY they loved those characters in the show. At first glance it may look like some past-their-prime wannabes, but they take it seriously, and it really shows. Also, it's only MILDLY ageist. My dudes, 36 is seriously prime agefor men as far as muscle building goes. But they treat him like he should be in a nursing home at first. Laugh if you want, but you will be that age sooner than you think. Anyways, it's a lot more respectful after that, and we have a motley crew of individuals with disparate backgrounds that all team up for the same love. Even better is not only the comedy, but the animation is better than just serviceable at it's EVERY episode. The music is spot on as well, and hits at all the right moments, though the OP and ED are perfect as well. Further on the ED: it's really just so watchable. It's so cute. I do have one issue with the balancing, it can be quiet and loud like if you had a game and turned SFX to maximum and everything else to 30. I do feel like they did a great job with timing and all just not with balancing. It's a little bit over the top but the artist is so good at leaving us bread crumbs to follow in regards to so so so many mysteries about the characters. I'm not gonna make you huff my farts here, the characters ARE the show and I mean ALL of them. The artist was clear in their delivery that there really isn't a main character, time is spent equally on everyone. This is clearly someone who loves their work and it shows. Instead of season 3 trillion of "that time I slimed a slime but i was perfect and OP", give us a couple more of this. Characters: 9.5/10 Story: 8.5/10 Music/Sound: 7.5/10 Animation: 8.5/10 Biased Enjoyment: fun as hell/10 give it a watch.
As an ex-Ultraman, ex-sentai, and ex-kamen rider fan, I am so pleased with the series. This show brought back so many memories when I started being a fan. I'm happy I checked this show out. I truly am. How did I find this? Kito senpai on YouTube. He promoted it on his short-form video, and it got me curious. Appealing (Why did I get into the anime?) As a massive fan back in the day, I don't think I want to skip this show. I had skipped many Kamen Rider/Power Ranger shows in the past, but I don't want to skip this one. Platform Bahamut Anime Crazy (Taiwan), Bilibili Global (SouthAsia & Southeast Asia), Crunchyroll, and Vidio (Still baffles me that this service bought anime license, I love it though). The review; Plot/Story Imagine this. You are a kid watching your favorite cringe show, such as Kamen Rider, Power Rangers, Ultraman, or any live-action show that has multiple adults acting like little kids fighting each other. I called it cringe because, as an adult now, I finally felt the embarrassment from all the stupid acts I did with my friends back in middle school. BUT! Instead of just rubbing it off as an embarrassment in the past, this series took it onto a whole other level. They train. They grind. And most importantly, they don't hesitate to imitate the act of Kamen Rider. Tojima has reached his 40's, and he is buffed as hell from the years of training. When he thought he wasted his years of grind, he met with others who were like him. Not only that, but he also met with the real enemy of Kamen Rider, the Shocker. Overall, the plot made me realize, "Heh, I should've been turning this thought into a real training like Tojima." Now, I waste my time as I reach 25 this year. Haiyaaaa Anyway, I'm just gonna say the premise is awesome. It engaged me in a slow-burning story about a worthy "fake" hero. There isn't much life lesson or a relatable moment in the show, but it still captured that cringeworthy adult acting to the core. Not only that, it's anime. I can finally feel less cringe watching it, knowing they are not a real person doing the act of heroism while posing nonsense. Character Great roster. So goofy. Knowing that these people are all adults and still act like children is so funny. I love the gap moe too, especially with the villain in the first half of the show. Weirdly, I like this show more than the real deal. It might be because it's anime. It's not real. The character acting felt less cringeworthy and more goofy funny. OST/SFX Absolute cinema. This section might as well be a section of galze of Teddyloid. Man, this guy is something else. He did the OP. He did the ED. He did 80% of the OST in the anime. He built differently. The guy might as well release the full album from this show. No joke, every time I saw the credits, he always appeared, and my mind was like, "Does he even rest?" If you can't already tell, yes, I love this guy and his works a lot. Animation Now, I've talked about this in my review for "May I Ask for One Final Thing?" This is a part of three projects that Lidenfilms made in Fall 2025. You might want to check my review of that, but basically, to summarize, this project was special. I mean, let's be honest here, they invite the OG actor of the Live-Action series to promote the show. That was already huge marketing. I don't think they want to let down the fans. Therefore, the animation becomes great. The sheer pressure of the OG material was the push needed for this anime to shine, and I'm happy that it has such a unique take on animation, unlike MIAfOFT, where the animation was so stiff. VA Great acting! No, wait, scratch that! IT WAS AWESOME! I can't believe how these VAs do the series justice. They act so accurately to the Live-Action actors and actresses. I love it! The conclusion; Enjoyable I waited every Sunday morning to watch this. OF COURSE IT'S ENJOYABLE. I love every bit of it. Worthable YES! Especially you are a massive fan of Kamen Rider. In fact, I would say you'll miss out if you don't watch it. Delivery Fantastic! Not as amazing as the shows that aired this season (Winter 2026), but from Fall 2025, it was among some of the greatest. OG Sauce Don't! I saw it, and they were right. The Manga looks like MP100 or OPM by One Sensei. I have to say this. To get into the manga, please prepare yourself. Watch the series first and then read it, but lower your expectations, as I also am going to do so when I get around to reading the OG material. (Felt like yesterday I did this to read the OG manga of OPM and MP100) Gratitude Never thought I would say this, but thanks, Vidio, for providing this show on your app. I'm glad I didn't cancel my subscription. I get to watch this without any trouble. Overall 9.7/10 I have to specify! I recommend this to fans of Kamen Rider or adjacent (PR, UM, etc.). I don't know if the casual watchers are going to like it or not. They might cringe watching this. š¤£
A labor of love for Kamen Rider fans, very much hype and awesome, I would recommend to watch this 100%, made me cry, made me hype up and overall left me feeling wanting for more. The music OST was awesome overall, it was a mix of techno and dubstep, it really supported the characters feelings and emotions overall throughout the scenes, the animation is top notch and compared to the manga they really beautified the anime so much more it's worth a full watch! The characters were mostly strong and there was a lot of blood spilled, but that was also supported by training scenes whereyou saw the characters get even a little stronger through the full season, they did have their flaws at time for example a certain character being too much of a coward even though she wanted to fight along the team, but overall I'd say it was really well-rounded.
