Delighted, he selects its most ruthless setting without hesitationāHell Mode. However, instead of diving into another virtual game, Kenichi is reborn in another world as a peasant named Allen, forced to grapple with a cruelly complex system where even the basics of progression demand relentless effort. Consequently, Allen must build his strength from the ground up and learn to master the summoner class. With his resilience being tested at every turn, Allen embarks on an uncharted journey that might just prove to burn hotter than actual hell. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Another season, another isekai. I've already tried pretty much every isekai available considered above average and next to none of them are finished. Despite promising myself that I wouldn't start any new ones, boredom won out and I decided to see if any of the less attractive looking ones at least had a better story. For a weekend binge session, It's not bad. Getting the tropes out of the way, we have a former PC gamer enthusiast who gets conned into play testing a new hardcore RPG and unwittingly reincarnated into another world as a rare summoner class. The main character's second life had many tendermoments that did a great job of showing his emotional maturity and newfound value on family. Eventually he stops treating his new life like a game and starts aiming for the top, not as a play tester, but as a fighter genuinely seeking power enough to protect the ones he loves. Make no mistake, the artwork is butt ugly. I've seen Studio Deen anime that looks better than this. Fight scenes are no better, but I was more impressed with how the summoner abilities were utilized. The story doesn't feel original either. The best praise I can give it would be bargain bin Mushoku Tensei. That may raise some eyebrows, but I do see some similar story beats. The kid isn't an absolute perv, nor are there any ecchi scenes to speak of. Best of all, the summoner ability system actually sounds cool AND is presented in a way that makes sense to the viewer. Simple, but effective and not overwhelmingly powerful. Good enough that if this were an actual JRPG, I'd love to play it. By the end, our hero has a new goal to focus on and season 2 has been announced for July. I'll probably read ahead since this went from a 6 to a 7 by the last episode. But you REALLY need to be willing to look past the awful artwork and 3D monsters. It still falls into garbage tier isekai, but darn it it's at the top of the heap. This one's for the Isekai fans that need an order of fries before the heavy hitters return for their 4th season. And who doesn't love fries!?

This anime was one that surprised me. I was in for my slop with a semi-original Isekai story, limited amount of expectations (low effort animation, felt pretty cheap). However our MC a hardcore gamer in search of a tough games gets isekaid into a game where he gets reborn as a kid and has to go through every harsh difficult - extreme poverty, lowest echelon in a feudal fantasy world. The creativity of a good gamer is real with our MC. He knows how to make solid build, experiment with his class and gets shit done at a very early age. The scaling and the pacingof this anime is top notch. You're done with one episode, the next week, the story advance to some new level. Nobody wants to see a 3 to 8 yo for more than 4-5 episode. By mid season the intelligence and grits make him advance to a new social echelon and makes progress in his class as a Summoner. The class system is fed to you - the viewer - as the MC - a gamer - lives his life. That's fun because you get some notions/grasp of the skill/class system a nice pace. Without getting into any spoilers, The MC protects himself by showing not to much, while showing he's capable. He's smart but not in a smarmy way. He learns from his mistake. Again, it's rare that the classic; Gamer god gets isekai'd doesn't get cocky or suddenly over-the-top OP. Which comes back to my early description of a good scaling anime. By the end of season 1 he's strong. We do understand he's about to become super strong but the story itself does imply how some other characters are insanely strong, in fact way stronger than he is which makes - again - pacing interesting. It's a Isekai, of course MC become God Tier. But how he gets there is how you get to enjoy good slop! Already season 2 announce for July 2026 so that's pretty sick! We can only hope the animation quality increases. Story: 9/10 Animation: 5/10 Overall solid 7/10 to light 8/10
Behold! The savior of winter 2026 for us faithful Isekai fans, especially vocational bingers. Before reading my review I suggest you uncheck review spoilers and read ātherealkojikondoāsā review, this man expertly captures in writing what made this such an engaging experience. We have exactly what made us fall in love with these shows; slow pacing, great writing, tactfully formed internal monologues. Careful respect is shown to game and world mechanics whilst continually inducing our fan-favorite cathartic staircase of upgrades and powerups. Itās just right up our alley and just begging to be explored. You press play on the first episode, you wake up from the hypnosis andthereās no more episodes, youāve finished it all in one go. One thing you will start to realize after watching 50+ of this genre is that all these authors have an ocean of ideas, but itās rare for it to translate well into the work. Thereās often an overblowing of the scope, never the other way round. They introduce female characters, but in their lack of wisdom, they donāt control the potential so it ends up consuming the experience. You will get none of those errors here, this first season is an overture in paradise. The writer is laser-focused on the themes and consistency. The experience is governed by Gameworld mechanics but none of them are broken once that clichĆ© of a random powerup to solo a tough foe. Intricacy is so evident as you will get carefully placed exposition of the stats of the characters and abilities, consequently making sound impact on the scene at hand. There is a clear distinction between amateur writers and this work with the expert use of time between events in this show. How many shows use time effectively? How many times will you see someone go from zero to hero, in a show centered around development, in a single year? Again we are relieved from this despondency as there is a generous helping time between developments whether small or large encapsulating the sheer captivation of the experience. What surprised me pleasantly was the authors knowledge of āgamerā strategies, tricks and insights which were incorporated into the various conflicts of the show. Hierarchy, order and family structure, in so many shows in time past, it was common to respect such things. Thanks be to God that this author understands that this is integral to a good fantasy experience. The show takes itself seriously, it doesnāt devolve into parody or satirical gags when the situation becomes hard to write. So many shows focus on the lower end of the social scale completely neglecting or demonizing the flip side of the scale. In the same way there are wise and foolish leaders, there are also wise and foolish subjects. The qualities that define the best of the 2 extreme ends of social order make a very healthy union and that is displayed masterfully in such a small 12 episodes. It must have been intentional from this author because you learn very valuable lessons here. Characters present with several dimensions, showing their colorful intents through actions whilst being given enough time to blossom, itās a rare find. We are blessed with a writer who possesses the wisdom to know what heās doing with the tension. He rightly stages the level of opponents the MC can defeat as well as knowing good moments to humble the MC. The author uses deaths, however few they are to bolster the experience and to steer the convictions in certain ways which as a viewer you simply cannot disagree with. Itās quite evident we have a smart person behind the pen and I love it. The plot is incredibly smooth, it doesnāt move in your classic Arc to Arc manner. Itās a slow burn much like a leveling grind in a videogame. Itās very endearing, the ebbs and flows of the small subplots and characters genuinely began to form tears in my eyes, it was very well done. The script writing is undoubtedly top notch as well, every conversation felt realistic with the voice acting hitting home nicely. Thereās a healthy amount of organic humor and when it hits, it hits very hard, itās incredibly underrated the best stuff, Iāve seen this season. Ahh! I know there will be complaints about CG, if youāre one weak enough to be mentally paralyzed by CG, avoid this immediately! Lest you find yourself in the hospital by the half-way point. Nevertheless itās done acceptably, it rarely feels out of place and thatās good because itās utterly pervasive. Honestly thereās just no way a drawn alternative could have achieved the same highs this show produced, CG was needed for this and it delivered. The fights are great, yes theyāre still lacking heavily behind China CG, but its up there if weāre talking about Japanese CG. Amongst the shows merits lays another undiscovered diamond mine; the sound track. Whilst you may not find a grand track perfect for any blockbusting playlist, the ambient tracks meant for atmosphere and emotion were simply exhilarating. Especially the country music they used for the first half of this show, clearly inspired by Enno Morriconeās work namely tracks like āEctasy of Goldā from The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly(My favorite movie ever). So much of it evoked sheer goosebumps, i was mesmerized as it strummed the beauty of the strings against my eardrums. It played a crucial role in amping up the emotion during the shows numerous character interactions. Iād like to think Iām somewhat unmovable but this show proved me a fraud. Unfortunately what lagged behind was the sound design. While it was good, they often had the music start to drown out the voices, and effects at times which I donāt usually notice. All that praise and unfortunately the plot doesnāt sit beside the still waters, it teeters precariously close to the valley of the shadow of death. The oh so familiar plot scenario of the āBabysitting woman complexā, a true, but common Isekai travesty. Some of your favorites dabbled or are drenched in the dew of this sin. The likes of āRe:Zeroā, āMushoku Tenseiā, ā The World's Finest Assassinā etc. Despite this, Iām still reeling for a second season. Final Rankings. Animation 7 - 2D drawn works did fine, leaving not much to be desired. 3D did a decent job for Japanese standards. Sound 9 - Atmospheric tracks were outstanding but often a little bit too loud, the country background music was Enno-Morricone-Esque, sending absolute chills down my spine and inducing goosebumps. Characters 9 - Fun, Realistic and immersive characters that show the authors talent at reimagining the life and structure from an older European-like basis(Common to fantasy) Story/Plot 8 - Development is undulatingly refreshing and itās very evident time is spent with great efficacy to maximize immersion, build up is made in pure benevolence. Thereās no plot armor. But all efforts culminate into a very clichĆ© Isekai scenario of Babysitting a female that MC doesnāt own, though a second season may shatter my low expectations. Enjoyment 10 ā The marriage between such strong background music, with good pacing, healthy characters and consistent mechanics. This was just a pleasure of an evening binge as I finished it, uninterrupted, in a single sitting. 43/50 - 9/10 ā Isekai Top Tier if Season 2 continues to be as impressive, A Super Recommendation from me. This winter season was rather bland, thereās not much good to watch outside of the popular stuff but this is one of those chosen few. Binge this as soon as you find some free time. Of course, I must make a disclaimer; If you possess the not so rare CG-lioma brain tumor, do not watch this show! Upon briefly observing seemingly endless waves of Japanese CG there's a high risk to critically accelerate brain death. With a second season confirmed so soon in the summer season, no need to read this, you can just watch the next instalment in 6 months. Also I must praise the author for being a strong force for promoting his work, not just to Japan but to the rest of the world, their site is also very friendly to the non-Japanese. Hope this helps.
Besides the horrendous cg and bad animation, for an isekai this is enjoyable. If you want to watch something to just pass the time this is solid slop. honestly, the biggest drawback i had was the bad animation and the cgi that was used. You don't see a lot of "smart/not dense" mc's in this type of genre so it's a nice change. Characters in this story are believable and story is okay, it's nothing deep but it doesn't try to be. this is the biggest 4-5 if you cannot get past the bad cg/animation. I gave this a 6 because i finished it and the powerfantasy is funto watch.
āHell Mode: The Hardcore Gamer Dominates in Another World with Garbage Balancingā (another very succinct title as you can see) is what happens when āMorrowindā systems are used in anime⦠kind of⦠Iāll get to that. You know how in āThe Elder Scrollā (of which āDaggerfallā and āMorrowindā are the very best, in that order, and I will die on that hill) you level up your skills by using them and you level your character after achieving enough skill upgrades? Yeah. This show has a similar system. Just not the part about leveling a character. That still uses the shit⦠I mean, good old XP bykilling method. Why? No idea, probably because itās one of the easiest ways to write a progression system, even if itās boring. Before we start I would like to explain something. I will be talking about āplotā and āstoryā. Many people use these terms interchangeably. Iām not one of those people, so to make sure everyone is on the same page⦠PLOT is the surface-level events. What, when, where, how and why (externally) things are happening. STORY is why (internally) things are happening and what internally happens to the character during the plot. So I have mixed feelings on this one. It has some things that I like and a lot of things I didnāt like. Surprisingly despite that Iām more on the positive side. This is one of few examples of a show that has a better plot than story. At least in the beginning. A story about a dude that gets reincarnated in another world having powers that no one else has. So original. Never saw that before⦠oh, wait. Unlike most other trash isekai however this one has a slower feel and progression (in the first 6 episodes, later it goes off the rails, especially episodes 9-12). I liked that. Shame that still made him OP AF MC with little to no negative consequences for anything. But I take what I can get at this point. Episode 1 almost made me drop this show. It did everything every trash isekai does: - reincarnates someone who has no attachments to his life and no one will miss him aka he has no reason not to roll with his new world and doesnāt have to think about his old life or people that could have give a damn about him - uses LitRPG trash (stat screen, levels, options etc.) tropes because writing non RPG system fantasy died somewhere in the 90s (the good old days) - gives OP powers to a child and pretends they are not OP, when even someone with a nail stuck in his hippocampus would tell you that they are - despite the MC (Allen) having a childās body he has a way of bypass that and have stats of someone far older / stronger - reincarnates the MC into an environment that is clearly safe, easy to maneuver and grants him something that could be considered ānormalā and āhappyā childhood with very little to worry about. Where is the āhellā part in this hell mode? So yeah. I didnāt have high hopes. On top of that, the world building itself in that episode is just horrible. Allen leveled his summoning skill from lvl 1 a lvl 2 in 10 months. But how? We donāt see him do anything. On his stat screen we clearly see that āAgeā and āLevelā are separate. So are they linked somehow? Do they have any other interactions? His age clearly is linked to his stats, his skills have their own leveling system so what does his overall level do except giving stat boosts? From where I stand he has two different systems that do the same thing. Why? Unfortunately this show uses time skips a lot and just expects me to roll with the fact that Allen has new summons. He gets an ability to fuse summons into one and you still want me to believe this class has higher difficulty? For effs sake. At least leave something so powerful as a reward for a high level or something. Not an effing gift for lvl 2 at a skill. Not even an overall level. A damn skill. And no. Not giving him enough MP to use it is not an answer. Why would he even get something he canāt use? Is it a part of hell mode? Do they show you cool stuff and just go āYou see this awesome, powerful skill? Well tough shit, you canāt use that. But you can have itā. Of course, thatās not a problem. In the next scene we get a time skip and all is ārightā in the world because Allen, now age 3, can use that skill. Just⦠for effās sake. He has an amazing skill and all he has to do to use it is age? Seriously? And if you think the oh so hard world of max difficulty didnāt bend over backwards, like a cheap whore, for Allen enough, in episode 3 we see that he has a nice collection of rank A and S stats. Again⦠where is the āhellā in this hell mode? As a bonus, people around him in the first part of the show are morons. A kid defeats monsters that are considered dangerous. Bring their carcasses for butchering, they are filled with bite marks that are clearly not from a human and not one damn person asks questions about it? Are they all stupid or have some sort of a hidden āLetās not talk about it just in case Allen kills us allā pact? Give me something. Because all I can see is a world thatās Allenās bitch to that point. The MP system is just awful. Itās stated that it takes 6 hours to get MP back to full. Episode 9 shows that itās not regenerating all the time but slow. No. After the required time your MP is back to full, even from zero. I get the title said itās a world with āGarbage Balancingā but this is just on a whole new level of bullshit game design. I like it. That is a part of āhell modeā that would actually make the game harder. In any other anime I would count that as a negative but in this one itās a positive. I choose to believe that it was intentional and not just a shitty idea implemented into the show. That said, the same episode pissed me off. Allen ran away from a creature for 3 days. Ok. Iām fine with that. To be honest I liked it. Finally, MC that canāt pull something out of his ass and kill something clearly more powerful. Did he do that a few times in earlier episodes? Yes. Did it bother me then? Yes. So Iāll take it as a peace offering from the writer who forgot about āhellā in his āHell modeā. The problem? How the fuck did he survived? I really donāt care that heās alive. I want to know HOW! Of course, because this is an isekai in a semi medieval world the MC has to have connection in high society. After all, we wouldnāt want him to work too hard for his powers, bread and a roof over his head. I mean⦠heās the MC, we canāt have him be too interesting. For the same reason this noble family is nice, competent and honest. What kind of writer would put a main character that has morals into the service of a noble that is evil and make him have moral decisions and maybe have to deal with internal crisis after he does one to many thing that is in opposition to how he sees himself. That would be silly. As a final negative I will say that most of the things in episode 12 happen because Allen decided to be a moron. The main, OP AF (compared to Allen) BBEG only is that way because Allen didnāt kill him in the first minutes of the episode. Allen was able to immobilize him and instead of capitalizing on that and the element of surprise, he decided to run. Itās a bit strange because up to this point he was able to capitalize on almost all weaknesses he found in his opponents. So yeah⦠episode 12 can go fuck itself and itās very, very close to character assassination. Despite all that, the plot itself isnāt half bad. Yes, itās basic and concentrates on Allen training and killing monsters but isnāt that the reason we all love Dragon Ball (if You donāt love Dragon Ball⦠donāt let the door hit you on your way out please)? Allen is actually competent enough to lie to people in a way that makes his powers and achievements believable in their world. Is it cheap? Yes, but I already said that his home village is full of idiots. To be fair the episodes in the village were far more enjoyable for me than the second part. In the second part there are too many time skips and things that never get explained (looking at you episode 9). I would prefer to see the MC struggle more, unfortunately that is very hard to do in this world. He is too powerful and the only way to challenge him is by creating someone who has better stats than him. Witch is boring as fuck. Would I recommend this show? The first half ā Yes. The second half ā No. Iām sorry but the writing on the tail end of this show is just terrible. It avoids explaining a lot of things and makes even the more interesting characters morons. You are trying to tell me that even after 5 years of unexplained monster corpse finding only one person connected the dots? Not one person asked questions about a kid walking alone into places where even adventurers donāt go alone? Another world full of idiots. That said I can completely understand why someone would find it enjoyable. Hell, I wound the first half of it ā the slower, more methodical half ā enjoyable. I just fell off in the second part, for me.
