Zheng Shaopeng, a high school student, dozed off during a history lesson. When he awoke, he discovered that he had changed into the impoverished scholar Yang Lin and had traveled to the Danzhu Dynasty in the history textbook. Initially, Yang Lin struggled to adjust to life in the past, but when he applied contemporary ideas to create a few modest innovations, he won the villagers' affection and eventually discovered a feeling of identity of his own. Yang Lin lived through a time of both internal and exterior unrest, experiencing battles and seeing the agony of the populace. By relying on his knowledge and abilities to acquire access to the court, he eventually oversaw the Danzhu Dynasty's efforts to combat internal corruption and repel formidable adversaries. A very good donghua. It's about a modern day man who likes to study Chinese history being transposed to the ancient times he enjoys so much. His person occupied the recently deceased body of a village scholar with no family except for an adorable teenage sister. Given this opportunity he challenges himself to change the fate of this specific era's empire to avert it's looming destruction. Through cleverness, modern knowledge and benevolence he faces and resolves tough situations, helps the less fortunate and advances himself through the ranks of officials. The story also includes a kind of a romantic relationship with his sister who playsa major role throughout. She supports her brother no matter what and only wants what's best for him. Her behaviour is a mix of childish innocence and firm resolve. Also, as I already mentioned, she is adorable as heck. The story is decent but progresses rather fast. I would have liked more time with the characters as they are what really makes this anime so enjoyable. Their personalities are very distinct and none of them detract from the quality of the series. They are all very well written and portrayed. As for the animation I was awed at times at how good it looked. I mistook it for real life on numerous occasions. It's one of the best 3D animations in an anime I've seen. The environments and interiors are stunning. The characters though can look a bit unnatural, sometimes their skin looks like fabric and their animations can look very unnatural, especially in combat, but overall they still perform fantastically. Music is there. Nothing exceptional in my opinion. Overall I enjoyed it very much. It's a very idealistic anime, with attempts at injecting modern day "equality" into ancient times. I just wish it gave more time to character development and didn't rush through the plot to the end goal so much. 7/10
