Okometsubu Fujiyama has recently transferred over to a new school, Wakame High School. His goal is to make 100 friends--until he meets the extremely weird Masaru Hananakajima. Masaru is a martial artist whose specialty is the "Sexy Commando" form of martial art. Masaru forms a club based on this art, including Fujiyama, who he nicknames Fuumin, in the club. The club becomes full of strange, yet wacky people. Aliens, mustaches, and cute fuzzy animals are encountered as the club moves along and gets steadily more popular. (Source: ANN)

Cleanup princess. Story Damn, this anime is different. I mean, it's really different. It really is. And crazy. Yeah, crazy. Cra-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-azy. And it will make you laugh so much, that you won't be able to speak for several days. Aliens, fighting, craziness, craziness, Meso.. *cough* *cough* *cough* Art Different, but stylish. The way it should be.But quality is poor *sob* Sound The way it should be. Nothing more to say. Characters Oh, hell. Different. Masaru is so different, that words can't describe him. Characters evolve quite fine, but in a different way, than usual. Different. And they learn Sexy Commando too. Except Susan, cause he has already learned it. Yeah, I know. Still his name is Susan. Enjoyment Err... Funny as hell and totally different. Crazy. Enjoyment beyond outstanding. 11/10 Overall The. Best. Gag. Anime. Ever. Now go and watch it!

Well, I don’t know how to make this story make any sense to you. You just have to watch it, which I strongly recommend you do. There is humor in pretty much all levels whether gag, otaku reference, slap stick, puns, almost everything. It’ll keep you laughing. But if I were to compare the humor with anything, I say Freakazoid is definitely a good foundation of what to expect but times it by 100, and you get this anime. The episodes are less than 10 minutes long since it’s based on a short manga that’s as long as a Sunday strip so pacing in regardsto length isn’t a problem. There is some story development, but it takes time but I don’t think the purpose of this anime is to develop story and characters at a significant degree, which is why most people love anime, and why it can be hard to get into this one for a critical percentage of anime fans of all levels. But in due time, it will be revealed why Masaru wears those weird golden rings on his shoulders and what not. The other characters all have qualities that stand out in their own way, though archetypical and stereotypical, but yet balanced and excellently parodied, and can still come across as original. Well, the style may be a major turn off, but I doubt the purpose of this anime is to invent state of the art animation. Considering that it’s comedy, the unorthodox designs truly reflect this, and helps form some understanding of what to expect. At times, you’ll see the art change style such as making them like cylinder figures just to symbolize the stupidity and dumfound atmosphere of the moment and to make you laugh. During action sequences, they will parody the style of 1970s anime with the sketchy outlines and the more colorful hyperspace backgrounds for more dramatic purposes and explosiveness. I’m not trying to give any kind of Emmy worthy merit for the style of this anime, I know it’s not the greatest, but you have to watch it for the purpose of the intention this anime has like I said. I think the art style perfectly compliments the nature of the anime. I can’t give it credit for style, but I will give it credit for execution. Ueda Yuuji is dead perfect as the voice of Masaru, and he is also the voice of Jin in Marvel vs Capcom 1 and 2. Put that portrayal into a comedy role, and you perfectly get Masaru. He does great with his passion, humor, just about everything that pulls you into the character and this show. The voice acting and execution also plays a big part of the humor. A certain portion of it will be hard to understand because it relies on puns within the Japanese language, which the fansubs will explain to you. Regardless of that, I still think its humor everyone can enjoy. At times Masaru will pull off counter intuitive motivational sayings that Dan Quayle and George W. Bush are only capable of that will make you laugh to tears. The voice acting overall is just incredible in making this anime work. The music is also pretty excellent in its use as well. The opening theme reflects the passionate comedy nature this anime has, so it really gives you an idea of what to expect and the imagery of the opening just adds more and more comedy to it. Ueda Yuuji also makes use of his unique singing talents as well with the official Sexy Commando Club song. The background music also makes use of all kinds of music whether overly dramatic or comedy just to further contribute the intentions of this anime. This is my favorite comedy of all time. A lot of people think it’s ridiculous, which I don’t blame them for. Sadly, I personally find there is some legitimate logic behind the sexy commando’s purpose, which contributed why I was able to enjoy it. Hell, I’m willing to use it in a real fight. But not every single bit of comedic moment will have purpose in relation to the story 75% of the time at my estimate, but if it’s to make you laugh, then hey, they did something right. The way it ends, it makes you want more. Sadly, I know of no scanlations of the manga that are out, but if you know where to get the manga online, then link me up. But I say if you really love comedy from every single angle, then I strongly say check this out at your usual torrent site.
WARNING!! If you are unusuÂally sensÂible, serÂiÂous or a wanÂnaÂbee goody goody then thereâs no need to read this review. Also, no criticismâs allowed! â The reviewÂers father This review has had my heart and soul put into it. Please close all other winÂdows and focus on only the text. It is advised you read this review while listenÂing to music, eatÂing a sandÂwich while tweetÂing that you are doing these three things. Quick crash course: Sexy ComÂmando Gaiden is a 1998 anime, 50 episÂodes long (although the episÂodes themÂselves are only 10 minutes long so itâs not as long as first glance would have you believe) andisnât that well known in the westÂern world. Itâs never been licensed in any way shape or form outÂside of Japan. It does, howÂever, have a massive cult fanÂbase inside Japan itself. Now the reason itâs not popÂuÂlar abroad is pretty obviÂous. Itâs very JapanÂese in itâs humour. This is as JapanÂese as you can imaÂgine. Full of weird, non-explainable events with the clasÂsic manÂzai comÂedy style of the straight man to the funny man. But itâs only when you watch the show does the idea of why this is a cult hit make sense. The animeâs centÂral focus is a genÂeric main charÂacÂter and his encounter with the pracÂtiÂtioner of the Sexy ComÂmando fightÂing style, Masaru. Every aspect of Masaruâs charÂacÂter is a gradual build up of ranÂdom charÂacÂter traits. He wears rings on his shoulders that cause cash machines to start sproutÂing ranÂdom phrases. If he takes them off, his hair grows shorter. Oh, and they also start spoutÂing smoke at occaÂsional interÂvals. Not that any of this parÂticÂuÂlarly annoys Masaru. He has a fondÂness for mousÂtaches and magical disÂapÂpearÂing baseÂball throwÂing techÂniques. Oh, he also has a story about how he found those rings. One day, he was walkÂing through the woods. He saw the rings on the ground, so he picked them up. The End. You startÂing to get a picÂture of what this anime is like yet? While Masaru is the ultiÂmate example of the sheer ranÂdomÂness of this anime, this trait feaÂtures throughÂout the show. CharÂacÂters are introÂduced with the most ranÂdom of charÂacÂter traits with the most bizarre abilÂitÂies with seemÂingly no real reason. If there was meant to be satire of some sort in this show, I never saw it. Maybe once or twice, but it would hapÂpen so infreÂquently that I came to disÂmiss it. While itâs obviÂous that I could miss a fair amount of the JapanÂese satire, I find it impossible to believe that I missed so much of it that I thought this wasnât satire at all. My mind sees an totally batty author, about as mad as Masaru himÂself, who will think up of totally ranÂdom plot points and toss them in for the heck of it. He has a vague idea of what sort of story heâs tryÂing to tell. Itâs about genÂeric main charÂacÂter learnÂing that there are rather less conÂvenÂtional ways of makÂing friends (oddly close to Arakawa when I put it like that, but these two are nowhere near the same level), but for the most part he just makes shit up. But, and hereâs the importÂant part, he runs with it. AnyÂthing heâs writÂten stays in. The ranÂdomÂness builds up and becomes part of the story. The anemic guy has the spirit of muscly, JapanÂese salaryÂman from the muscle buildÂing ads inside him? Great, weâll run with that throughÂout the story and heâll appear whenever it makes sense for him to do so (for a given value of âsenseâ that is). This all builds up. The ranÂdomÂness becomes part of the story and part of the world. Youâre always aware at how stuÂpid all this stuff is, and yet you grow accusÂtomed to seeÂing it. Youâre sucked into the world of the Sexy ComÂmando, where the headÂmasÂter calls for breaks in class by dronÂing âseaÂweedâ over and over again on the interÂcom. Where girls have their fathÂers killed by rogue mousÂtaches. It all becomes part of the world youâve gotÂten sucked into, and it looks like so much fun you find yourÂself wantÂing to join in. Hence, I can totally see why this is a cult hit. A world where people cry WANCHU and CLEANUP PRINCESS, knowÂing what they mean. A world where you can all dress in the cusÂtomÂary Sexy ComÂmando battle gear of the white, long sleeved shirt and jeans, with your team leader sportÂing those fetchÂing golden rings. Where you all come together to perÂform the MelÂanÂcholy of Elise (the draÂmatic unzipÂping of your fly, that is the preÂcursor to every move in the Sexy ComÂmando handÂbook). Thatâs a cult Iâd love to be part of. Oh and by the way, the female coach is called Moe Moe. You now have another reason to watch this anime. Oh yeah, that openÂing paraÂgraph? Each episÂode of Sexy ComÂmando starts with this: "WARNING!! If you are unusuÂally sensÂible, serÂiÂous or a wanÂnaÂbee goody goody then thereâs no need to watch this animÂaÂtion. Also, no criticismâs allowed! â The reviewÂers father" MeanÂwhile, a women is telling us to turn up the volume because the video was recorÂded in steÂreo hi-fi while a man simÂulÂtanÂeously tells you to turn down the volume because this is a late night anime and you donât want to disÂturb the neighbours. CLEANUP PRINCESS!
Sexy Commando Gaiden is an anime that purely focuses on comedy. If one were looking for a laugh or merely something light-hearted and short, this show will tick all the right boxes. Whilst each episode only lasts 10 minutes, the amount of laughs garnered during that short time simply cannot be measured! ====== STORY===== Without a doubt, the animeâs lack of a coherent storyline is what contributes to its comedic shine. Sexy Commando Gaidenâs humour is heavily reliant on random slapstick and eccentric twists and hence, this style of comedy relays effectively off its weak (or lack of) storyline. In fact, it would come as no surpriseif one were to say that the humour defines the story (or vice versa). ======ART===== For an anime that aired in 1998, the art is just what one would expect. So whilst the art and animation may be somewhat âchoppyâ, this does not detract from the animeâs overarching purpose â to make you laugh. ====== SOUND===== The voice acting manages to reflect each of the characterâs personality sufficiently. The OP is upbeat and, similar to the voice acting, successfully reflects the true nature of the anime. ====== CHARACTER===== What really defines this particular anime is its cast of characters. If it were possible to personify comedy, the protagonist, Masaru, would perhaps be the closest result you can achieve. However, the said man is not the only conjurer of comedy in the anime. There exists a whole cast of characters that draw out the true essence of this anime; each one funnier than the last. The cast of characters range from the (somewhat) straight-man to the most peculiar student you will ever see. ====== ENJOYMENT===== As a dedicated fan of comedy, I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed Sexy Commando Gaiden. Its random and rapid-fire style of humour really plays to my taste â whether they are laughs generated through the witty puns or the constant ridiculousness of the situations the characters find themselves in. ====== OVERALL===== Taking into the account the fact that the anime aired in 1998, I found it difficult to unearth a flaw in the show. However, it is important to understand that the animeâs style of humour may not necessarily cater to everybodyâs tastes in comedy. To those looking for something more âintellectualâ (for lack of a better term), Sexy Commando Gaiden may not be for you. However, those merely seeking a show for a couple of light-hearted laughs are guaranteed to enjoy this anime.
Why does nobody talk about this show? 1. It's funny 2. No drama 3. Very good pacing 4. High energy 5. "Wanchu, clean up princess" â a reference from the anime This is a very enjoyable show. It's a real hidden gem with an original story and unique characters. As a huge fan of gags, parody, humor, comedy, and funny shows, I really love it â Wanchu! Unfortunately, it has two drawbacks: - First, it's an old anime from 1998 (not their fault). - Second, it's very, very short. Luckily, there's a compilation available on YouTube. And of course, the story ends with a lot of unresolved mysteries. Spoilers from here: What is the origin of the aliens? What is the true purpose of Masaruâs ring? Do you remember when he flies? What was the reason behind that? Why does Meso act so weird? Whatâs his real secret? Is Masaru actually an alien?
