In a world where negative emotions fester, five fairies from the strongest clans are sent to Earth to collect "attachment" in order to sustain their world. The fairies establish Bar F and live their lives as normal high school boys and a barkeep in order to protect their true identities and fulfill their mission. The boys encounter various female clientele at Bar F, each hiding dark feelings within their hearts, and the boys offer to help them overcome their troubles. The only thing they ask for in return is the client's permission to steal their heart. As the boys investigate the cause of each client's distress, they come across an individual who wishes to sow chaos and sin. With their quest on the line, the fairies of Bar F must unmask this individual's identity and put a stop to their plans, all while holding true to themselves. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

All I can really say about it is that there is more to this anime than it meets the eye on the first glance. It's really worth to give it a try. I was sceptical in the beginning as well, but oh boy, did it grab me by the throat and made me eagerly wait for every next episode and now that it's finished, I will miss watching it on Thursdays. It's so casually queer and kinky and I loved it all. Also, I really liked the contrast of magical fairies fighting with normal people's everyday problems. All those issues they were solving felt soreal and probably hit home for many who watched - at least for a moment we could feel as if the fairies could solve those problems for us as well. I think it was a very nice touch. I wish they could give us another season. u_u

Fairy Ranmaru is a camptastic anime filled with nonsense and absurdity. It was trash and I loved it! Let’s get the technical stuff out of the way: the story and characters leave a lot to be desired. This is not a “conventionally good” show that can be enjoyed in conventional ways. If you’re looking for tight writing and intricate characters, Fairy Ranmaru will not meet your expectations. It follows the typical, trope-heavy “monster of the week” format that most fans of the “magical girl” genre will recognize. The episodic formula is extremely repetitive, especially in the latter half of the show where there’s very little variety.I think a lot more could have been done with episodes 6-10, specifically. More time should have been spent fleshing out the character dynamics, but unfortunately there are very few developments during this stretch, and it feels like a wasted opportunity. What this anime does have, though, is some pretty fun music and art. Each of the character songs that play after the transformation sequences are quite catchy; I never grew tired of them! The opening and ending songs are also surprisingly good! When it comes to the animation, it can be quite choppy at times, but the show always displays a consistent style. Visually, this anime shines during its fight sequences, which have a “Madoka Magica”-esque, surreal aesthetic. Now, the real draw of Fairy Ranmaru is the campiness and the fanservice. If you don’t enjoy either of those things, then this anime will bore you to tears. However, if you’re looking to have a good laugh while ogling bulges and indulging in some homoerotic tension, then I can’t reccommend this show enough. It’s just such a fun watch for people like me who get a kick out of over-the-top silliness! I had a lot of fun watching Fairy Ranmaru, despite its many flaws. As it stands, I think that this show is criminally underrated; it’s really not as bad as some people make it out to be! It’s one of the least watched shows of the 2021 Spring season, and I think that’s a damn shame. Oh well! I’ll still fondly remember this goofy little anime for years to come! :’)
[Spoiler Free] Honestly, I picked up this series mainly because I accidentally signed up to do the MAL Rewrite for the synopsis. I thought that it couldn't be that bad, given the fact that it was just a magical girl anime, except with boys, on the surface. Boy, was I wrong. Let's start with the non-existent story. I don't expect anything from a magical girl/boy series in terms of plot because the formula is rather simple. I don't expect some deep-cutting psychological story or anything that isn't just your typical "enemy-of-the-week" kind of thing, but I found the time in between fighting the enemy to be wastedtime. You would think with a magical boy anime, there would be a central villain the protagonists would be working towards to defeat. It is obvious that there is one, but you don't understand who they are or why they are evil until 11 episodes in. The entire story just gets shoehorned into the last 2 episodes and it just felt lazy. The first 10 episodes were just character introductions to the 5 protagonists, but they were done so poorly that they have no personalities. I don't understand how an anime takes 10 out of 12 episodes to poorly develop 5 characters and the villains when there are literally thousands of other titles that can do it in 1 episode. Hell, even other magical girl series had better plot and character setup in less time than this show. The human character designs are quite bland and forgettable. The fairy designs were REALLY generous with the fujo bait fan-service (abs, big bulges, very well-defined muscles, homoerotic subtexts, etc.). I could not watch this series without doing a double take behind me to check for other people, even though I shamelessly watch other magical girl/boy anime and fujo bait series on a TV in front of others. There were a lot of questionable scenes throughout involving bondage and BL-esque situations and I don't know what to make of those, other than I felt mildly uncomfortable with it. The animation is fine for what it is. I wasn't expecting much from Pony Canyon and Studio Comet, so I had nothing else to base it off of. The transformation sequence is, by far, the longest one I have seen in any magical anime to date. The change from human to fairy form is a good 15-20 seconds and then there's like 1 minute of song every time with the fairy running/flying with no fighting or anything. I don't understand what that adds to the story and it just felt like filler because they ran out of things to animate. I started skipping the transformation sequence as a result because I'd rather have that ~2 minutes of my life to look at something else. The sound design wasn't bad. Most of the voice actors seem fairly new to the industry because I have never heard of most of them before (the most prolific VA is for the Queen, who did Yuru Yuri's Akari and SnK's Krista). They did what they could for this series and I can't fault them for that. Overall, I don't know who this series is targeted towards and I did not enjoy it as someone who does consume magical girl/boy series and fujo bait material. It's way too mature/fan-service-y for children who enjoy magical series. The only thing memorable was how much I couldn't stand the BL-esque fan-service. Is it a good hate-watch? I don't know. Should anyone watch it? If your favourite pastime is to explain to your parents/roommates that what you're watching isn't hentai. Would I do it again? Only if I sign up to do the MAL Rewrite synopsis by accident again.
Just to put it simply: it isn't as bad as people make it out to be. It's fun, it's silly, it's artsy, has excellent music and a heckton of fanservice. Definitely aimed towards the bisexual crew. There are a lot of tiny details that get lost in the rushiness of 12 episodes--- like how the characters each represent a mudra hand-sign that matches either their personality or story. I personally thought these were very clever and it goes to show how much the creators wanted to do for their characters but did not have the required length to do so. (The cast is big-- with themain 5 each taking 2 episodes of protagonism. ) I definitely recommend it to those who will not be turned off by the clear sexual tension and the way some characters present themselves during their transformations. :)
This anime certainly caught my eye and after watching it as a whole well it was interesting experience for sure! The overall theme is interesting, yes it does have a fairy theme but the focus on human desires and helping others who were suffering is interesting (things like greed, lust, sloth) and more. I do warn that it has quite a bit of erotic art so if you can make sure to watch it when no one else is. But I was really happy to see each person getting help (be warned also, it will focus on mature topics as well!) Next, the characters themselvesare pretty well-developed and have their own personalities as well as journeys to go through and I will say it was great to see them triumph in the end. It does have its fair share of humor and that not everything in the world is black and white but rather grey. The art and animation are pretty good too, what I would like to praise as well is the music which certainly fits well with the anime. The opening and ending are great, and each episode where the main fairy tries to help their respective arc characters comes with its own in-episode song based on the theme of the episode. Overall, I would say give it a go. You won't be disappointed =)
