A somewhat different, yet a worthy sequel for Isekai Maou. I see many people being disappointed by many things with this season. The lack of character development, or a not very deep story, but honestly that was never what Isekai Maou tried to be. From S1 it was obvious that it puts the "Ecchi" aspect in the middle, along with Diablo being OP. Now, what's different in S2 is that it feels like Diablo got somewhat of a nerf. It feels like it's harder for him now to beat his enemies compared to before, but on the other hand (and this is where I believe S2 shines) theEcchi took a step up. Random jiggle physics, random strips and lewd jokes are the things that make the show for me, and honestly? It was glorious. We get introduced to a few more girls for Diablo's Harem, which I really liked. Yet, they didn't make Shera or Rem feel like they got gutted or anything in their roles. An unfortunate thing that I do believe kind of sucks, is that the animation takes a hit just a few episodes in, and it becomes quite a slideshow, which is a shame. The OP/ED took a huge step up this time as well. The OP and ED, by Serizawa Yu (Shera's VA) along with DJ KOO & MOTSU did a great job at making really catchy songs! Overall, if you liked S1, you'd probably like S2 as well, as you already know what you're in for. 8/10

Oh God this was a train wreck. Story: The first season of Isekai Maou had actual stakes, characters I cared about and very timely ecchi scenes that didn't usually distract from the main plot but it feels like all of the good from season one was thrown out in season two for whatever reason. Going from saving Rem and trying to stop the demon lord from being revived to a stopping the corrupt church plot with nothing to get me invested in it. Why should I care about this? Because some hot nun who's completely insufferable to watch? yeah no thanks. Art: The art is what you would expectfrom a cheaply made sequel trying to squeeze as much cash as possible out of the franchise. Still images with blurs galore. The fight scenes are laughably badly animated almost to the point where they're better than any comedy the show could try to force out with the millionth breast bounce which is fitting since that's probably where most of the budget went. Sound: The sound is unremarkable, nothing stands out at all. Also the OP and ED are so bad that I skipped them every time. Characters: While the first season was a good blend of comedy, Ecchi and action season two has none of that. Diablo feels like he's actually regressed as a character this season, Rem and Shera are relegated to background characters with little to add to anything (aside from Shera's tits bouncing every time she moves) and the new characters they introduce are actual garbage. I swear I didn't think any character could be as insufferable to watch as Lumachina, every time she's on screen she's either crying, screwing things up, being used for fanservice or all three. The end of episode 8 cemented her as my least favorite character, the second any adversity comes her way she just starts crying. Discount Aqua was fine though. Enjoyment I did not enjoy this show. The plot was predictable, the fanservice was jarring, the characters sucked. Seems like every other male character besides Diablo and Emile are just bound to betray everyone at the drop of a hat. Would you believe I called Battuta being evil the second he appeared on screen? Frankly I felt like I forced myself to watch this show. Overall Personally I don't think this season should even exist. It only exists to attempt to squeeze out any little bit of money that could potentially be made. Coasting off the coattails of the first season all the while having none of the strengths the first season had. Making every good character a shell and making every new character completely insufferable.
Here I am again, after almost 3 years (at the time of this review) of being this show's great Devil's Advocate in sparing what is then an oversaturated tri-factor of genres (Isekai, ecchi and harem), and still to this day, remains somewhat of a dilemma. With that said, Season 2 coming back to grace those who loved Season 1 back in the day (plus yours truly)...was much more of a convoluted decency than what was already established with the prequel beforehand, which ended on a cliffhanger that definitely warranted a follow-up season that we're only getting now. Let's expunge the problems with the sequel season beforewe get to the main meat: From the changing of hands in production to even the change of Japan's TV broadcasting stations. Ajia-Do did a fairly respectable job back in Spring 2018, and dare I say that the fanservice that this show provides a substantial amount by being under the paywall of Japan's premium channel AT-X, that is the only big bite factor for Isekai Maou's watching "excuses" for the "plot" (and believe me, it is superb to watch uncensored anime as people of culture) back in the day. Fast forward to this Spring season, and with both problems (plus a change in directorial duties to Tezuka Productions' in-house director Satoshi Kuwabara), Season 2 got off to a good start with all that familarity coming back...to only then falter with its decisions by handing off to a co-production between Tezuka Productions and Okuruto Noboru (yes, that low-budget studio which did the awful Hidden Dungeon show) and airing in a general TV broadcasting station like TBS (which means that you can kiss the uncensored version goodbye). Look out for a Director's Cut of the uncensored version of this sequel in the near future, if you want to remain as cultured as possible. People complained that Isekai Maou's story was unrevolutionary, and back then, depending on the side that you were on, you could love or hate the fact that this series mainly balances actual plot with the harem and fanservice. So for people of culture like you and me, we find it enjoyable to a certain degree that while the story is heaps dry and bland, the fanservice at least keeps the momentum going strong to likeness. And this effect would come back to bite the series, now in this sequel season where the actual plot takes precedence over the fanservice (which honest to God, is not needed, and that's why the broadcasting plan was altercated), and it bites hard, clamping on the enjoyment factor of the show to downright distasteful nothingness (with some good moments that fell short of expectations). The Demon Lord Diablo is still king of the series along with fellow supporting boing-flat-boing slaves Shera and Rem, and over the course of Season 1 we get characters like Sylvie, Horun and others to make the story churn out some fresh stuff as a set-up for more compulsive orders that needed the absolute chad Demon Lord's insanely OP power to qualm and resolve the endless situations of "Who's king" (though IMO it feels forced). New to Season 2 is the "You've heard umpteen times of how fantasy stories HAD to have a church conflict between religion and faith as a plot device": the High Priest Lumachina and formally for the first time, Diablo's personal stronghold of a maid, Rose. Yay to more girls to a harem protagonist, though with that many and come what may, the chad Demon Lord will still find it easy to grasp them within his reach and exterminate enemies from false truths to even fake identities. For that, the character aspect still earns a plus, but nowhere near Season 1 levels of awesomeness. I'm not an avid fan of co-productions, especially when series are already established from the get-go, because as much as production values aren't gonna improve due to current world events, it's the feeling of unnerving-ness when series have to stray away from what it was made out of. In the case of this sequel, the production took a lot of liberties by going for character cuts every so often that although by the nth time you see it and feels low-budget, it still feels jarring to break the scenes just like that. Most particularly, the inclusion for Okuruto Noboru isn't really needed as an outsourced episodic project kind of stuff, it's just in-between animation and a full, fledged episode production to their name. Nonetheless, it is what it is, and I'm meh about it. I don't know about you, but the one thing I find weird about this sequel is in the choice of the OST. Legit, there are fans of DJ KOO & MOTSU who find their music repertoire a head-banging effect (especially for the OP), and Shera's VA Yuu Serizawa helping out as a collab, but while it's no Aoi Yuuki levels of the Seiyuu voice when it comes to OPs and EDs, it's just weird to have a pumping song for such a show like this. It's an unique aesthetic I'll give it that, but I just can't shake the feeling that there is some sort of disconnect between the thematics of expressions. Should you watch Season 2 of Isekai Maou though? I feel that this is a legit question for those who've enjoyed thoroughly of Season 1, because this represents a significant tonal shift of focus that is both a blessing and a curse to the series as a whole. If you're here for the story, then by all means do continue where it left off, but if you're seeking for the fanservice, please stop at Season 1 and just continue with the source material (the manga adaptation of the LN that is, if you're looking for more fap material). Not great, but not to the point that I can still say that Isekai Maou is interesting anymore: it's just another ecchi, harem-fest of a light novel adaptation, of which there're hundreds like it that you've seen it all before. Just stick to Season 1 (of which have been extensively covered by both manga and LN versions), and continue on with the source material, you'd have a better way to spend time than wasting 4 hours to watch a subpar sequel.
After watching season 1 last year which I enjoyed very much, I was satisfied with the show. I never in my dreams thought that this anime would receive a season second, since most of these kinds of anime are just a glorified advertisement of their source material. But to my surprise a second season was announced and I was eager to watch the second season. And I have to say, that season 2 was decent (Some episodes were amazing while some boring). Main problem with this season is its getting repetitive. Apart from equipment upgrades and party upgrades, i felt like this season was agiant filler arc or something. Overall plot did not progress at all. This was the same feeling , I got watching after SAO 2.A giant filler season , just to introduce some characters and plot so minuscule to the grand scheme of things which can be easily skipped. This season had a slight change in artstyle, but it's not that much noticeable unless you watch the first season again. Ecchi in this season , also seemed to turned down. Maybe its because there was only 10 episodes to conclude this arc. Unless the story gets interesting, I would probably drop the third season of this anime (If third season even comes out , most probably not) since its getting repetitive.I also dont get Diablo at all. He already saw Rem and Shira naked a billion times , why is he still flustered about it?? I hope Author makes the story interesting again in an upcoming season. If you liked season 1 of this show , then you'll probably enjoy this one too.
You expect a sequel to improve upon it's predecessor in all aspects, be it animation, characters, character development, plot etc. but this one manages to somehow bring down everything already established in S1. The side characters in S1 are sidelined for newer and blander characters who get ditched immediately at the end. The old cast is so horribly cast aside that even if you remove them from the plot, nothing essentially changes. The new characters are not interesting in the sense that the entire second season feels like a filler season you'd see in Naruto or Bleach. When it comes to power fantasy anime likethis you expect the MC to overpower everything and introduce new magic but no such thing happens in S2 because this season managed to depower Diablo to such an extent that there are minor characters who wound him and are faster than him. Powerful villains are not a bad thing, however, the way they are used is quite underwhelming in this season. The final boss gets taken down by a single attack and it's called a Raid boss - the weakest raid boss but a FUCKING RAID BOSS OF LEVEL 200 WAS TAKEN DOWN BY A SINGLE ATTACK OF DIABLO OF LEVEL 150. That is only one of the hair-pulling things I encountered while watching it. In the end, as compared to season 1, this season is essentially a filler which manages to accomplish nothing to build the world, introduce and kill off pointless characters, does not setup anything for a potential season 3, and destroys a whole season worth of character development of the original trio. Skip it.
