Having lived his entire life on Mount Taiheng, half-yao Kong Hongjun is at last presented with the chance to explore the human world. He is assigned three tasks: uncover his father's murderer, eliminate the Black Jiao and its yao tribes that have infiltrated Chang'an, and return the Heart Lamp to a descendent of the Chen family. However, on his first night in the city, the Heart Lamp is mistakenly absorbed by military general Li Jinglong. After receiving a mysterious invitation to join Chang'an's Court of Exorcism, Kong Hongjun is reunited with a disgraced Li Jinglong as his captain. Alongside a fellow yao, a noble from a foreign land, and a cowardly scholar, Kong Hongjun and Li Jinglong must work together to purge Chang'an of the yao lurking in its streets. In the meantime, Kong Hongjun also needs to hide his true identity from Li Jinglong who loathes yao—all while attempting to retrieve the Heart Lamp from his body. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

A half demon child is sent to the human world to perform 3 tasks, but one of them is botched when the head of the Exorcism section breaks the heart lamp he is supposed to give to someone else. He ends up joining the Exorcism division, making friends along the way while solving cases. Story - 8/10 There's a good story here that blends family drama, a fish out of water protagonist, his joining the Exorcism Division and making friends, the beginnings of coming of age, solving mysteries with some difficulty and getting embroiled in Imperial Politics plus all the pain in the ass crap thatentails. There are comedy bits that work really well once I got used to the stylistic artistic choices made by the team. Character - 7/10 The characters are not the usual archetypes and we don't know everything about them (yet) so there's plenty yet to be discovered in subsequent seasons. The author does a good job of developing a rich world with some hints to the magic system and each character has something that sets them apart, plus all of them are super attractive so this probably falls in the bishounen category of show that I enjoy watching. As of the end of Season 1, I find the paint brush wielder to be the most fascinating one. Art - 8/10. The CGI is actually detailed and good, with the high resolution version it actually stalls on streaming because of the amount of processing power needed to render things beautifully. The battle scenes insanely beautiful. There is one part in the last episode that did something different that I've never seen before, it is one of the 2 special things that elevated this show to a 8/10 rating overall, and that is the paintbrush guy's contribution to the bathing pool fight. My mouth dropped open in a "wow, they did that ... and it looks great!" when it was playing. Moments like this are what make me love anime. Sound 10/10 I would be hard pressed to find this level of sound quality in many anime. The OP and EDs are wonderful. The battle and ambient sound effects are accurate. What sets this anime apart is a Shamisen Duel in Episode 10 that is just phenomenal to watch and listen to. I may have replayed it several times because of how impressive it was as a spectacle. While the lady had a good singing voice, the male singer's voice is so next level that if he is a real singer, I would purchase tickets to hear him sing live. It made me an instant fan. That's impressive. This sequence was the second standout sequence in what would have otherwise been a 6 or 7/10 series. Enjoyment - 9/10 I had a great time watching this and will be starting Season 2 shortly! Overall - 8/10 The unexpectedly funny comedy and a good story make this a series worth watching if you're a fan of bishounen (handsome, handsome men everywhere doing awesome stuff). The 2 things that set this apart from other anime in a "new and different" way are the standout Shamisen Duel and the Paint Brush guy's final fight. Both make this memorable, and it ended up being much, much better than what I initially expected.
Story is interesting! Not gonna lie, it was sometimes confusing but it makes sense as you watch it. On the other hand, it was enjoyable enough for me that it made want more and to go to the next episode. It is BL, but as usual in the donghuas due to censorship, you pretty much can't tell at all. The art and animation is ABSOLUTELY outstanding! I know people are often put off with this kind of animation, especially if it's not done right, but the quality is so amazing that I'm blown away. I've seen a fair share of donghuas done in this style andusually the action scenes get quite pixelated and blurry, but the scenes still continue to be crisp and clear *chef's kiss* This show also has a really hilarious meme aspect to it which I enjoy! XD
If you like a super fantasy anime, this anime could be a good choice. It is blending traditional Chinese art styles with smooth, dynamic action sequences that bring its Tang Dynasty setting to life. The visual design is rich in detail, from the ornate architecture of Chang’an to the mystical elements of its supernatural world. The story benefits from a compelling atmosphere that merges historical intrigue with fantasy, creating a unique and immersive experience. However, the series suffers from inconsistent pacing, with some episodes feeling rushed while others drag, and its complex fantasy lore is sometimes introduced without enough explanation, leaving newcomers confused. Additionally, while the maincharacters are well-developed, many supporting characters are underused, and the season ends rather abruptly, offering little resolution. Despite its flaws, Tianbao Fuyao Lu remains an enjoyable watch for those drawn to beautiful animation and historical fantasy, especially viewers already familiar with the source material.
✒💛 The Power of a Heart of Gold °8.8° °magnificent° S1🔍minor spoilers only 🎶❣ I want to live ❣ I want to give ❣ I've been a miner ❣ For a heart of gold ❣ It's these expressions ❣ I never give ❣ That keep me searching ❣ For a heart of gold❣ And I'm getting old ❣🎶 Bad demon. Kong Hongjun entered the mortal world. Now he has to die, even though the deity acknowledges that he has a good nature (besides, he did a GOOD deed). It is 2 seasons consisting of 13 20-minute Mandarin speaking English subbed episodes, but I only had access to S1. As I just wrote for another review: You're in for a treat. Mandarin is spoken beautifully by Chinese actors. It is a massage for the ears. Criminal charges aren't the first charges Kong Hongjun receives. His adopted father charged him to go to the mortal realm and assist the CoE - Court of Exorcism. Mount Taiheng is the only place that Kong's ever been to, so the mortal world sounds scary, but here's his chance to see a new place. His directives from dad: 1. Find his birth-father's murderer. 2. Eliminate the Black Jiao and its spies scattered all over Chang'an. 3. Return the Heart Lamp to a descendent of the Chen family. Kong bungles things immediately. When he meets capt Li Jinglong, he stumbles and the mystical Heart Lamp slips into the captain's body. The captain doesn't even sense it is there! Kong is unable to retrieve it. When he arrives at his new “official “ gig, the CoE, Li Jinglong ends up stationed at the court on assignment as well. Kong will be able to focus on retrieving the heart lamp much easier, now. He will have to be stealthy about it. As for the rest of the team, Qiu Yongsi is a scholar but also a scaredy-cat. Mo Rigen is the incarnation of the Grey Wolf and a fierce fighter. A-Tai is a Persian prince and full of surprises. Zhao Zilong is a small creature who hangs with Kong and basically fulfills the role of C3PO: Always nervous, scared, and mindful of the protocol, but quite helpful at times. Many characters harbor secrets. Kong Hongjun must balance them all while trying to complete his mission. When they arrive, the court's grounds are in shambles. The buildings are rundown and falling apart. A HUMAN has been put in charge. While they are trying to reattach the front doors, they get their first assignment! Eh, it's merely to find a missing cat for the Beauty House (brothel). Li is insulted. Capt. Li is also duty bound. They're charged with finding a 🐈 so that's what they do. One thing leads to another and they uncover a nest of demons and other nefarious plots. At the close of S1, they remain unaware of the most nefarious plot, to resurrect the Devil himself. Not all demons want the devil to be reborn. The demon king and his comrades fought the black dragon years ago, but they lost. If they don't finish the job, the devil will be reborn and the world will plunge into misery and chaos. The demon king wants none of it. He already lost his brother (Kong's father) to that dragon and was forced to raise his fatherless nephew. The last 3 seasons of The Dragon Prince have the most beautiful animation I've ever seen… until LoE… The art is simply stunning. People are drawn with CGI in realistic detail. The characters look like walking porcelain figures. The backgrounds remind me of Maxfield Parrish and Thomas Kinkade works. They are mythical realism and very beautiful. There's a steady influx of light-hearted air flowing into LoE. Grins and smiles abound. There's also a budding romance between the captain and Kong, but it is only hinted at in S1. The feel is exactly like live action Chinese fantasy, but even better. China makes the best fantasy in the world despite their sometimes clunky special effects. Things like the use of talisman, powered jumping from the ground onto rooves and running on them, landing so forcefully that the pavement crumbles, the brothel/ hospitality house, elaborate weapons, demons and gods… this is all boilerplate stuff in Chinese fantasy. If you are a fantasy fan, you are missing some of the best works in the world if you aren't checking out the Chinese catalogue.
