I'm really not sure what people expected out of this OVA or why they'd expect it to be different from the show. It's an OVA for a series which plays on very overt incest themes and otaku escapism. Okasaan online does not pretend to be deep, philosophical or substantive, and the OVA keeps that same vibe. It's a fun, silly and relaxing OVA beach episode with the same level of humour, antics and action that we saw in the series. If you did not like the series, you will not like the OVA. If like me you enjoyed the show, you'll love the OVA. It'sa fun time and has everything we enjoy about this series dialled up to 10. Again, this is not an amazingly written episode nor does it pretend to be. Go into this for cute girls and fan service. If you do, you will have an enjoyable experience. If you're not ok with otaku escapism, incest vibes, lewd comedy, etc., steer clear of this. Personally, as someone who loves the series I found this to be an extremely satisfying blast from the past(summer) and look forward to more content from the series/LN. Okasaan online OVA gets 10 Shirase's out of 10.
Unaired 13th episode. To thank the group for all their hard work in the past, Shirase invites the party to enjoy the sunny beach. While enjoying the wonderful weather and pristine waters, an accident causes Masato to lose all his memories, including those of Mamako! (Source: Funimation)
"Araara mama, ufufu no mama, Mamako desu" In this beach episode Mamako finally gets what she wants, but not really. Masato was fooling around with that Japanese game that involves hitting a watermelon on the ground, as he was following Mamako directions he gets mad that when he senses a watermelon it is actually Mamako's "watermelon", he get pissed and throws his bat at the sea, but since karma is a mistress the bat is thrown right back at him and Masato loses his memory. Despite having an harem, Masato ignores them and his eyes are focused on Mamako and he starts to develop someOedipus-y feelings - and fanservice was there for Masato as well -, which our pure Mamako doesn't see with any ill intent, she even feels so happy we he says that he loves her. He then in a snap regains his memories and this special ends with his party members losing their memories and Shirase dying. Overall, it is an episode with several moments and aspects shown on the show. Art is poor, rarely they put effort on drawing bodies, faces, clothes- who am I kidding, there were only bikinis here -, it is just a lame job. Animation is quite limited as well. OP is quite good, it was awesome to hear it again, the ED had a small portion cut, there are those moments when Kayano Ai says as chibi Mamako "Mamako desu" and "Arigatō" and they are barely audible, which is a shame. It is the same beach episode you probably watched in every other seasonal anime, you will probably watch it for Mamako; Porta, Wise and Medhi are there for appearance's sake.
I don't know whats worse, being put on lock-down due to that Covid 19 pandemic or this??? Cu'z neither of it was good, and TBH, I'd wish that studio JC Staff would just be contented of the previous parent anime, so I gonna get down to business of making a review of this OVA: Story-Pathetic 1: Frankly this was a continuation of the parent anime that ended last Sep 2019, and in my opinion, it was just as worse a its parent anime, since this is where they upgraded the incest that was often the main stay in any harem anime, though here they putthe "Oedipus complex" into use when they make it a situation where Makun gets amnesia where he see Mamako as his love interest instead of his mom. Art-Good 7: Given that this was a beach service , swim suit where in and as expect only two namely Mamako and Medhi get a 10, Wise gets a 4 cu'z her being in a bikini top with shorts was a step back of her, where we would often see her panty flash. Porta , well not much maybe a 6 since she the quintessential frills bikini and Shirase whom I don't dig if she wearing a maillot or a short dress. Sound-Mediocre 5: Nothing to mention here since the VA who did the vices of the characters were still the same. Character- Poor 3: I would have like that Mamako X Makun relationship if Mamako was Ma-kun's step mom , but she's not, also it was kinda unfortunate that studio JC Staff didn't make any attempt to develop that Ma-Kun X Wise relationship nor did they bother about thinking of a Ma-kun X Medhi relationship or maybe a Ma-kun X Porta arc, either way them girls were just regulated to the sides. Enjoyment-Mediocre 5: Cu'z I'm just in it for that swim suit service, don't get me wrong I just wanna know who would be the hottest.... Overall-Pathetic 1: It was just a bad OVA, in fact studio JC Staff would have been better off if they just added this to the parent anime. So, Season 2 anybody????? Don't ya even think about it, Beach ( yeah, I do mean"Beach")LOL....
Story 5/10 Art 5/10 Sound 5/10 Character 5/10 Enjoyment 6/10 Overall 5/10 First we can see how a beach chapter will be like any other. Everything starts normal with Masato with his harem and his mother, then a couple of unforeseen events happen and the fanservice will not be lacking. Until the point of feeling a very incestuous relationship comes, but then everything ends well and there is no incest. In conclusion I highlight the good atmosphere and a quiet and average OVA like any other OVA on a beach. In addition to an almost incestuous ending and that the girls get amnesia, I highlight the kraken that appeared, that kraken is perfect, it has tentacles, skin, eyes, it is perfect.
Oh my oh my, what a disappointment of an OVA. When I went into this I expected a beach episode because I know how much of a cliche fest this show is, so that part didn't bother me. What did bother me was that there was just a poor explanation for every single part of this episode. The sword flew back at Masato, but really for no explained reason. Did it have a special trait? Who knows, not like this OVA will stop to explain that to you. The self-awareness was cute at best, it did honestly give me a slight chuckle but I feel likeit was far too over the top to the point that after a while it wore off but if it didn't have it then this review would have been much more harsh since at least it shows they tried but ultimately failed. Now for the characters. They all act like they did in the main series, but I really wish that more time was given to Wise and Medhi. Weren't these two supposed to be his harem? You've got yourself a beach episode, do something with them outside of just having them push their breasts onto his arms. I'm glad that Medhi kept her snarky remarks though to keep me on team Medhi. In conclusion: It's... okay. I feel though that for anyone who really enjoyed the main series you'll be let down because of the poor quality when compared to the main series. I can see that the main goal for this episode was just fanservice over humour, which saddens me. I liked it when both of these aspects were in balance or they worked together to have a different impact, but this episode being focused on fanservice with nothing else makes it fall flat.
