The 7th Division's Private Hyakunosuke Ogata and former Shinsengumi Vice Commander Toshizou Hijikata find themselves on opposite sides of a gang war in Barato after hearing rumors of the Hidoro gang possessing an escaped prisoner's tattooed skin. I saw this OVA had no reviews and felt the need to write one, mainly not to express my opinions on it but to help people that may skip past this OVA since this is a must watch because it adapts a missing chapter from the manga that shows what happened between Ogata and Hijikata’s crew during episode 12 of season 1. Now that I got that out of the way I must say this OVA was pretty good, it was jam packed full of gunfights and was entertaining the whole way through. Frankly with that information and the fact that it is mandatory towatch I don’t see any reason to skip this.
That was fine. Short and sweet review for a short and sweet OVA. This was perfectly adequate Golden Kamuy content, about on par w/ the first season. Animation is fine. Nothing too different from Golden Kamuy S1 proper; so nothing standout. Because this is an OVA though, there are no real terrible drops in quality like some portions of S1. Music is not noticeable, but not offensive. It was nice to see what the Old Man group and Sniper Guy were doing, but this OVA did not make me feel particularly strong about either character. I do hope we go back to that mafia don's sonat some point. Really not sure why its so out of place as a standalone when this could've fit into the main series perfectly well, but I am not an expert on anime production so I'm sure there was a real reason as to why its cut up like this. Either than that, nothing really to write home about, but it's still good to watch before you continue on with Kamuy.
