"Kitty to Mimmy no Happy Birthday" is a Sanrio short for kids starring Hello Kitty and her twin sister, Mimmy. This OVA is decent enough for what it is; it's harmless, easy to watch and has a clear beginning, middle and end. It's not particularly worth watching, though. The gist of the story is this: it's Kitty and Mimmy's birthday, and their mother sends them off to pick yellow strawberries for their birthday cake. They invite various friends to accompany them, but everyone is too busy! Dejected, Kitty and Mimmy pick the berries themselves, then get lost, and finally find their way home, where a surprise(and a song) awaits... The plot is predictable, so the real point of watching this is to see all of the other Sanrio characters that appear in it. Cameos run the gamut from famous characters such as My Melody and Little Twin Stars, to relatively minor ones such as Taabou and Pokopon. The animation is limited, but serviceable. The voice acting is average. The music, including the song at the end, does not leave much of an impression. Overall, this is not a bad short by any means, but there is nothing particularly unique or outstanding about it. It's rather mediocre and I would recommend it only to Sanrio fans.
Kitty and Mimmy have a birthday! This 11-minute short OVA is produced by Sanrio. The story takes place one morning when Kitty and Mimmy's mother sends her twin daughters to collect yellow strawberries! It's a very delicious variety of strawberries and the main characters' mother needs them for the cakes they're making for their birthday. The sisters go outside and occasionally meet their friends who seem too busy and as if they forgot about their birthday! It seems that they will have to go in search of yellow strawberries alone, will they be able to find them and what will happen then!? A little interesting fact is thattheir birthday is November 1st! This OVA features many other Sanrio characters who look interesting, but due to their number and the brevity of the animation, there is a feeling that sometimes they are there more for their own introduction than for participating in the plot. The music is unnoticeable while the appearance of the animation is average. The plot quickly becomes predictable, if you are interested in maybe another anime where these two characters have a birthday you can check out the OVA Kitty to Mimmy no Atarashii Kasa which may be more interesting than this one. This OVA is not a must watch but you might be interested if you like watching Hello Kitty and Sanrio.
