An ancient legend tells of a magical Powerstone that granted its owner any wish desired. Adventurers from all over the globe clash as they seek this mystical gem. Based upon the Dreamcast game, POWERSTONE tries to entertain us with the story behind the game's premise. The plot begins with our hero, Fokker, training to be a fighter like his idol, Vargas. First I must say I mostly enjoyed this show because it was nostalgic. It was one of the first Animes I saw, and it also was on TV, which is very rare here :\ Story: This show's story isen't the most brilient, but it is very good. Aside for some plot holes that do apear like in any other show, this show's story is very consistent, and only rarly twists in ways that are unprodictble. Art: Considering its an old show, it has a very good art. It has all the Anime components, and it's very easy to understand what is going on. Sound: This show has a decent sound, andI really like the background music for Power Changes. Overall the sound is avarage+ Character: This show has several main characters, and although this is a window for a lack in character development, the characters all evolve and grow. They all have background storys and most of them take place on a ragular basis. There are also twists with character's loyalty or even gender (:P). Enjoyment: As I said before, I enjoyed this show alot (10 out of 10 means alot :P). It is mainly because I felt nostaligy, but also because it's a great show. Overall: I think it's a good show, and it's worth "wasting" the 26 episdoe's watching time. I only found it in English and German dubbing, so if you are not a fans of dubbing you will have to look very hard. Even though it's dubbed and somewhat old, I really think you should give it a show, as it is very enjoyable.
First thing you'll likely notice about this anime is that it has a kickass dub OP, available in English and German. This alone would be enough to make it stand out among the other shonen adventure series at the turn of the millennium. That and its English dub being exclusive to the Canadian channel YTV. But is this stone truly a hidden gem worthy of obscure anime bragging rights? If you're looking for a good ol' 00's era adventure anime, this band of fighters is worth travelling with. To be straight, though, this wasn't a groundbreaking series even at the time, and if you've watched enoughof the genre, you'll recognize the stock character archetypes: the hotheaded shonen lead, the perky ninja girl with a crush on said shonen dude, the bumbling Team Rocket like pirates, the stoic samurai rival, and so on. The episodes themselves can get pretty repetitive: with a good deal of new character introductions following the standard "team visits new town with a crisis that turns out to be instigated by a corrupt authority figure." But their interactions are fun, and there's a surprising depth to lead boy Edward Fokker/Falcon, who starts off as a spoiled, privileged brat but grows to really understand and empathize with others along the journey. His kindness especially makes for heartwarming interactions with the creepy mummy-esque Jack, who gets too little screentime considering how tragic his story is, and his personal idol Valgas, whose true role in the story probably will not be surprising to people who have been watching anime for a while. Still, their interactions make the final episodes an emotional roller coaster that is well worth the journey to get there. All in all, it's a good way to spend 26 episodes if you're looking for a nostalgia trip. ...oh yeah, there was a Power Stone game, wasn't there? Two of them, in fact.
Power Stone (γγ―γΌγΉγγΌγ³) is a good example of an awesome Fighting video game on the Sega Dreamcast transitioned well into an Anime adaptation. Since this fighting game was released on a console that did not sell well, it's understandable why this gem from the past has mostly faded into obscurity for the English speaking world and Japan too. If you're a person like me who is lucky enough to have experienced playing Power Stone, you will definitely appreciate what this anime has to offer. Let's Start with the Story: (7/10) The Story of Power Stone is very interesting to say the least. We see this man namedEdward Falcon from Britain who receives a gift from his long lost (and somewhat rude) father and now Edward must go on this massive Adventure all over the Power Stone world to stop the Evil Organization. Along the way, Edward meets other friends like Ryoma the Samurai, Ayame the Kunoichi, and Wang-Tang the Warrior! Most of the time, Each Episode ends with one of the main Characters using there Power Stone abilities. While I think the story is considered Repetitive or Annoying, I think this show does a pretty good job for the story and throughout the 26 total Episodes, there are many enjoyable ones out there! For me as a "G-Rated" Anime, (I am 16-years old as I am writing this) I'm not calling it the best plot ever, but I do believe the show generally carries a good anime if you want to waste your time. Now It's time for the Characters (9/10) These are not the best Characters I have seen in an Anime! Far from it, but for it's job, It's very well done. Almost every single (If not every) Character from the Power Stone game on Dreamcast is here! We have Edward Falcon who starts a bit like a jerk in the Beginning but becomes a true hero, we have the Samurai Ryoma who's backstory is kinda like Zoro's Backstory in One Piece with continuous Training hoping to be the very best. Then we got Ayame the Kunoichi who is personally my favorite Character Design wise. SHE IS JUST SO CUTE! The other Characters being Jack, Galuda, Wang-Tang, Rouge and the others are also very good in their own ways. Now for Animation and Enjoyment (8/10) Since this anime came out in 1999 in Japan, some people would call the Animation 'old'. But as a fan of Power Stone on the Dreamcast, I think the Animation fits them quite well and they lived up to what I expected in a Game-based Anime. I love the English Opening Theme! It's very fire and I highly Recommend listening to it! The Voice Acting is very good too especially the English Dub Voice Actors which most of them come from Canada (My Country). After watching it both in English Dub and Japanese Audio with English Subs, I think the English Voice Actors fits the roles PERFECTLY and truly reflect to the character's Personalities. If you are looking for an anime with a good English dub, Power Stone does not Disappoint here. As a Show reflecting on Adventure, Connections, and Stunning Transformations, as well as being a Tribute to an Underrated and Excellent game on a lesser-known Video Game Console (The Dreamcast), Power Stone is a perfect Anime for those who had Nostalgia with this show and for those who are being introduced to Power Stone for the First Time! If you have never played the Power Stone games, I highly Recommend you do and it's never too late to get Started.
